Chapter 30: Chapter 30 Wanyuan Fire Seed (1)_1
"Hehe, I’m from the Mo Family in the Imperial Capital," Dugu Qianye said, not expecting the old man to be so astute.
"Impossible. I’m very familiar with the people of the Mo Family, how come I have never heard of you?" the old man shook his head, expressing disbelief.
"I grew up in Qifeng City since I was a child. It’s normal that you don’t know me. My mother is Mo Qiushui," Dugu Qianye said.
After hearing Dugu Qianye finish, the old man looked at her as if he were seeing a different person, staring for a long time before he asked incredulously, "You, you are Dugu Qianye?"
Dugu Qianye nodded, somewhat puzzled how he knew her name.
"Calling me grandfather isn’t wrong. Back in the day, your mother used to love grabbing my hair and calling me ’Old Uncle’," the old man said, quite moved.
"You knew my mother?" Dugu Qianye was surprised. She hadn’t expected that the grandfather she recognized on a whim was actually an old acquaintance of her mother.
"Hehe, yes." Then he looked at Dugu Qianye and said, "I even held you when you were little, but my memory fails me in my old age. These years must have been tough for you after your mother’s incident!"
Dugu Qianye shook her head, not feeling it was tough after knowing how the Mo Family protected her, but she felt a little sad for the original owner who had died; she hadn’t felt the care everybody had for her.
"When were you able to cultivate Phantom Power? And how come you are with mercenaries? How could Mo Jian let you come out alone?" the old man asked, showing more concern for her after learning of her identity.
"I started cultivating last year. I plan to go to the Imperial Capital to attend the recruitment of Empire College. Thinking there was still time, I came out alone to gain some experience," Dugu Qianye answered.
"Mm, you indeed should go and learn. Systematic learning is necessary," the old man nodded in agreement and said, "I’ll be leaving in a while to do something, and then I’ll go to the Imperial Capital to see you."
"In a while? How could that be okay? Mengjiao Ridge is so dangerous, how can I let you go alone?" Dugu Qianye disagreed.
"I can certainly get out safely, don’t worry. It’s been a long time since I saw your uncles, too. When you go home, bring a message for me, tell them to prepare some good wine for this old man," he said.
Seeing the old man insist, Dugu Qianye had to agree. She escorted him to a small hill, already far away from the camp. She called out Qingluan to carry the old man away from Mengjiao Ridge. When the old man saw the disguised Qingluan, he asked, "Is this also a Divine Beast?"
Dugu Qianye stroked Qingluan’s feathers, nodded, and said, "Qingluan, I’ll be troubling you."
Qingluan flew onto Dugu Qianye’s shoulder, nuzzled her neck, and said, "Qingluan is very happy to help the master!" Then it flew up into the sky and revealed its true form. Its wingspan had almost reached twenty to thirty meters by now.
Watching the old man fly onto Qingluan, Dugu Qianye realized that the old man had to be a master of at least Phantom Emperor Level. She pursed her lips and said, "Grandpa, you’re actually so powerful, but you pretended to have no Phantom Power earlier. It’s not nice to trick people like that!"
The old man laughed and said, "Hehe, the old man here never said I didn’t have Phantom Power, you know. You just assumed that."
Dugu Qianye rolled her eyes, suddenly remembering she still didn’t know the old man’s name. Seeing Qingluan taking off, she called out, "Grandpa, I still don’t know who you are, how can I bring them your message?"
"Hehe, people call me Master Youwu. You’re wearing the Phantom Ring I made on your hand. I recognized you were a girl at first glance. But don’t worry, aside from me, no one can recognize that. Old man is off!"
Dugu Qianye stood dumbfounded on the hilltop, maintaining her upward gaze. No way, wasn’t this too melodramatic? She had unknowingly acknowledged the legendary Master Youwu as her grandfather? Could things get any more fantastical?
It was only after Qingluan took Master Youwu out of sight that she retracted her gaze, marveling internally at the mysterious ways of fate.
It was a rare opportunity to be alone, so on the way back to camp, Dugu Qianye let Xiaohuo and Liehuo out for some air. Xiaohuo transformed into a little girl and pounced into Dugu Qianye’s arms, while Liehuo and Xiaoyin chased each other ahead.
"Sister, that mountain looks so strange," Xiaohuo, perched on Dugu Qianye’s shoulder, said, pointing at a distant mountain.
Dugu Qianye looked in the direction of her pointing. The trees covering the entire mountain range were fiery red, making it look like a burning volcano from a distance and very distinctive among the surrounding verdant mountains.
"We still have time; let’s go have a look," Dugu Qianye suggested.
Xiaohuo reverted to her original form, and with Xiaoyin and Liehuo in tow, she took off towards the mountain. Though Xiaohuo looked like a seven-or eight-year-old girl in human form, her true body was already over a dozen meters in length.
As soon as Xiaohuo exerted her majestic aura, all the flying creatures of Mengjiao Ridge paid homage in their direction, until Xiaohuo flew to the mountain, transformed back into human form, and withdrew her pressure.
"Master, it’s so hot here!" Xiaoyin exclaimed, sticking out its tongue. Once on the mountain, its tongue kept lolling in and out. Indeed, it was a canine creature and heated up just like a dog.
"Sister, it’s much hotter here than in other places," Xiaohuo remarked after surveying the environment.
Dugu Qianye stowed Xiaoyin and Liehuo inside the Refining Demon Pot, and because of her contract with Xiaohuo, she didn’t feel uncomfortable.
"The colors of these trees vary in depth, let’s head towards the area with the darker hues," Dugu Qianye said, taking Xiaohuo by the hand as they walked towards the middle of the mountainside where the red was the purest.
The closer they got to the middle of the mountainside, the hotter it became, and the fewer trees survived.
"Sister, there’s a cave there!" Xiaohuo cried out, her tone brimming with excitement, as if she had discovered a new path, and she was about to run over after speaking.
Dugu Qianye held her back, warning, "Be careful, there might be danger," and then led Xiaohuo slowly towards the cave entrance.
The two arrived at the entrance of the cave, and upon seeing no immediate danger, they cautiously entered. The cave’s opening was small but deep, with temperatures rising the further they went in, far exceeding the limits of human endurance. The soil around them had been baked into hard, red fossils.
"What is this place, why is it so strange?" Dugu Qianye whispered, fearing that some powerful Phantom Beast inside might be awakened by the noise.
"Sister, this scene feels so familiar," Xiaohuo said. "But I can’t remember it."
"Shall we go in a bit further? To see what’s actually inside," Dugu Qianye asked for Xiaohuo’s opinion.
"Okay."
The two continued inward and after about 100 meters, the path ended, and a hole leading downward appeared. They exchanged glances, and Xiaohuo, shrinking down, transformed into a Phoenix, carrying Dugu Qianye downward. After an unknown amount of time flying, they saw a vast expanse of red magma.
"The core of the Earth?" Dugu Qianye exclaimed in shock, not expecting the cave to actually lead to the Earth’s core.
"Sister, it’s the Wanyuan Fire Seed!" Xiaohuo shouted in astonishment, disbelief in her voice.
"The Wanyuan Fire Seed? What is that?" Dugu Qianye, seeing Xiaohuo’s excitement, asked curiously.
