Chapter 258: Chapter 258: I Won’t Leave You Alone (1)_1

Now that neither people nor Beast from the Refining Demon Pot could come out, with just the two of them, it would be fine if the Spiritual Beast’s level was low, but there were also quite a few with levels similar to Xiaohuo’s. Were they supposed to burn them all to ashes with a single fire?

When the horde saw Dugu Qianye and her companion, they didn’t stop; in fact, they ran even faster. It left the two of them astonished. Had they become some irresistible delicacy?

After the horde entered, Dugu Qianye realized that every Spiritual Beast seemed to have lost its mind, charging around wildly, and would ram anything in their way, such as trees or rocks. Now that they saw Dugu Qianye and Xiaohuo standing in front of them, they naturally charged towards them.

"There’s no other way, let’s go," Dugu Qianye said and ran towards the horde.

If they used Spiritual Power, the Spiritual Beasts would subconsciously retaliate with Spiritual Power, so she could not use Spiritual Power. It had been a long time since she properly practiced the Ethereal Step Technique and the Formless Divine Skill. Today was a good day to use them to break out.

The Formless Divine Skill and Ethereal Steps hadn’t been used much, but she didn’t neglect her practice of them. Without daring to use Spiritual Power, they were her only option. However, it was clear she still couldn’t withstand so many Spiritual Beasts attacking together. Gradually, she felt so tired she could hardly lift her arms.

Dugu Qianye tried her best not to let herself be surrounded by the Spiritual Beasts, as that would make it even more difficult for her to break out. Holding a longsword formed from Spiritual Power, she leapt forward and stabbed out, blinding a level 1 Super Divine Beast Rhinoceros in the eye. The Super Divine Beast let out a loud roar and began ramming wildly among the horde. The other Spiritual Beasts, struck by its horn and bleeding, became even more frenzied and turned to ram the Rhinoceros.

What was once an orderly group scattered, turning from targeting Dugu Qianye and Xiaohuo to attacking each other. This gave Dugu Qianye a moment to catch her breath.

"Sister, this isn’t a solution. Shall I just burn them all to ashes with a single fire?" Xiaohuo, also holding a longsword, stood back-to-back with Dugu Qianye, gasping for breath.

Dugu Qianye looked at the chaotic horde and asked, "Can you use Golden Fire now?"

Xiaohuo tried and said, "I can’t use Golden Fire! What kind of place is this that even my innate flames are useless?"

"It must be the strong toxicity of the miasma in the swamp has distorted the space here. We need to leave this place as quickly as possible, or we won’t die from the Spiritual Beasts but from the miasma’s poison," Dugu Qianye said.

"Sister, I can hardly breathe," Xiaohuo coughed and said.

Dugu Qianye also felt she was struggling to breathe and thought Xiaohuo must be in a similar state. She tried to summon it back to the Spiritual Beast Contract Space. She thought she would fail, but to her surprise, it succeeded. Only without Xiaohuo, her situation became even more difficult.

Suddenly, she noticed a red powder on the fur of a Super Divine Beast, clearly sprinkled on by someone. Looking at the other Spiritual Beasts, they all had some of the same powder on them. She instantly understood the truth. Thinking of who wanted her dead the most, Dugu Qianye knew how today’s situation had arisen.

"You had your chance at life, yet you refused it. If I get out of here alive today, you better be ready to go to hell!" Dugu Qianye said fiercely.

When had she ever been in such dire straits? Each time she faced difficulties, fortune would come in the guise of disaster, turning misfortune into a blessing. Although she suffered a lot, situations where she was cornered to this extent, like today, were truly rare.

After a while, she had sustained multiple injuries, her blood mixing with the soil on the ground.

Was today truly going to be the end of her?

Dugu Qianye was sent flying by a blow from the Rhinoceros, landing on the ground ahead, kicking up dust. As she saw the massive wild elephant charging towards her, she thought resentfully.

Just as the giant foot of the wild elephant was about to step on her, a Sword Qi flew from behind, splitting the elephant’s leg. Taking advantage of the moment it retreated, a mysterious savior picked her up and pulled her back to safety.

Dugu Qianye had only been watching the giant elephant approaching her, thinking that she would meet her end here today. She had not expected to be rescued by someone at the last moment.

"Roar—" The giant elephant let out a pitiful cry, its foot that had been about to trample her hesitatingly withdrew. Before she could react, someone picked her up and quickly retreated several dozen meters.

"Pfft—"

Having just been slammed, her organs seemed to have shifted out of place, and now her body jolted again, causing the accumulated blood in her chest to spurt out.

"Cough, cough." Dugu Qianye coughed a few times, expelling more blood mixed with bits of her internal organs.

"How are you?"

A concerned voice came from above her head, and she realized that she was in someone’s embrace. Her vision was blurred from the impact, and she was seeing stars, but she still recognized the voice.

"Cough, cough, Zi Xiao, how did you get here?" Dugu Qianye was surprised by his appearance, even more surprised that he was in the secret realm.

"I’ve been here since the beginning," Zi Xiao said. "I’ll explain it to you later; for now, take this elixir."

Zi Xiao fed Dugu Qianye an elixir, then held her with his left hand while his right hand wielded his sword, standing off against the horde of beasts ahead.

Dugu Qianye swallowed the elixir, which was an improved version of the Sacred Rhinoceros Pill she had refined. Once the pill dissolved in her mouth, the burning sensation in her chest lessened significantly.

"These Super Divine Beasts cannot be attacked with spiritual power," Dugu Qianye whispered as a reminder.

Zi Xiao tightened his arm around her, his voice low but tender, "I know, don’t worry."

The horde of beasts in front of them seemed excited by the sudden appearance of this man, each sharpening their hooves, eager to charge. The injured Spiritual Beasts that couldn’t move were glaring, clearly in an abnormal state.

Zi Xiao held Dugu Qianye, facing the charging Spiritual Beasts, then swung his sword to strike them. He didn’t use spiritual power, but instead relied on Sword Qi, each strike inflicting a fatal wound.

It was clear that Zi Xiao was much more formidable than Dugu Qianye; however, even he struggled against the overwhelming attack of so many Super Divine Beasts. Moreover, since he had to protect Dugu Qianye from being hit by the beasts, his movements grew slower and more strained. He was injured several times by the Spiritual Beasts while shielding her.

"If you leave now, you could still get away unscathed," Dugu Qianye said.

Zi Xiao cut off the paw of one Spiritual Beast and replied, "I’ll never leave you behind, never. Uh."

Zi Xiao, distracted by speaking to her, was hit again, and his purple clothes were now spattered with blood. Dugu Qianye gazed at him blankly—the words he spoke seemed like a spring rain falling into the dry well of her heart. However, she didn’t know whether to believe them as true or not.

"Why?" Dugu Qianye asked.

She and he were not very acquainted; at most, they had only met a few times with a few interactions. Why would he put himself in such danger for her? Her heart fluttered for a moment, but then, thinking back to the betrayal in her past life, she subconsciously suppressed that feeling.
