Chapter 18: Master of Frost vs. The Undefeated — Round Two

Chapter 18: Master of Frost vs. The Undefeated — Round Two

But in a hopeless situation, an idea suddenly struck Raigetsu—one so unlikely, it was almost impossible to think of in the moment.

A beam of fire shot from his palms, shielding him from the frost technique.

Ray of Frost turned out to be useless—it instantly melted under the intense heat.

"Negation. High Magic!"

Raigetsu halted his fiery barrage and used a technique to absorb magic.

The frost beam was completely absorbed into the palms of his enemy. Raigetsu restored all his lost mana and smirked.

"Damn," Salazar thought. "What could his weaknesses be? Think... think... Nothing can be perfect..."

And then it hit him. An idea sparked.

Until now, his opponent had never demonstrated any mastery of High Magic. In contrast, Salazar was a Master of Frost.

He remembered Raigetsu as a reckless, aggressive kid who always invited trouble. No, who looked for trouble.

Salazar recalled how often his opponent used the element of Destruction in childhood. Now it made sense—Raigetsu likely didn’t have the capability to wield advanced High Magic spells.

Smirking, Salazar raised three fingers:

"Frost Touch."

From this distance, Raigetsu couldn’t reach him.

"Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha!"

A repulsive, domineering laugh echoed across the hall. Raigetsu looked especially confident.

"You’re still the same idiot I remember! Years have passed, but you haven’t changed one bit. That’s exactly why you’ll never beat me!"

Suddenly, he clapped his flaming hands together.

And then—

—A beam. Just like the one Saddler used in the fight against me.

It reached Salazar before he could react. The beam pierced straight through his shoulder.

"What..."

He lost control of his body.

"I’m... falling?"

THUD.

Salazar collapsed to the ground. His head spun wildly.

But he came to in an instant, the moment he heard Raigetsu’s voice.

"I thought you’d figured it out by now. Don’t tell me you still don’t understand the ability of my Supreme technique?"

Each slow step Raigetsu took toward him sent a shiver of terror down his spine. Sooner or later, he would reach the wounded mage.

Salazar shot to his feet, even as his legs trembled beneath him.

Clutching his shoulder, he realized—such a deep wound couldn’t be stopped by a basic healing spell. Only Light Element magic could fix this, and he had never studied it.

"Frost Barrier!"

A shield materialized just as his opponent raised his hands again.

"You thought just because I’ve never used advanced High Magic that I’m clueless about it? There’s some truth to that. Take a look."

Raigetsu raised his flaming hand.

And then Salazar saw it. The fire that enveloped it... carried not just the energy of Destruction—

—but the energy of all elements, and even High Magic.

"I can use every element. And every form of High Magic."

That twisted smile on his face... Honestly, I’d probably smile the same way if I knew I was good at everything.

"But... how?" Salazar took a stance.

"Shocked? Don’t worry. I let you listen."

His enemy brought both palms together and conjured a blazing sphere. It shone with the colors of both fire and lightning—yellow and red. In between them flickered the hue of raw magic—purple.

"Eternal Flame can evolve endlessly, because it works in tandem with Negation. The more spells I absorb, the more Eternal Flame copies them. In short, I now have hundreds of spells—and ten Supreme techniques—in my arsenal."

The audience froze in shock.

Ten Supreme techniques?! Most people couldn’t even learn three in a lifetime!

I’d never heard of anyone wielding ten ultimate techniques... let alone mastering every element and branch of High Magic.

"The Destruction element," Raigetsu continued, "is the perfect weapon in the hands of an experienced fighter. Only through it can you create anything by sheer willpower alone. Compared to that, High Magic is nothing more than a circus trick."

Salazar listened carefully but kept thinking of a plan to win. He had many ideas, but almost all of them fell apart the moment he remembered: any technique he used would instantly be turned against him.

"Eternal Flame is my and only my technique. That’s why Destruction is always a better choice — it gives you real creative freedom. Now do you see the enormous gap between us? Use whatever you want. I can’t wait to add your Supreme technique to my collection!"

Raigetsu raised his hands again. A freezing orb formed, shooting a frost beam forward.

Salazar snapped back to focus. He sprinted away from the beam, and when he got close enough, he shaped four fingers on each hand.

"Frost Steps!"

The ground beneath his feet began to freeze. He glided over the floor, gaining incredible speed with each second. Strike after strike, he assaulted Raigetsu with his freezing touch.

And just when Raigetsu attempted to release flames from his palms—

—Salazar jumped above him and touched his head.

"Freeze."

In an instant, Raigetsu was frozen solid. A statue of ice.

The spectators gasped in awe. Everyone’s thoughts were the same—the undefeated had been taken down by the dark horse of the academy.

Some even began to clap and declare Salazar the victor...

CRACK.

Salazar turned. The ice began to crack at every edge.

BOOM!

Flames consumed the entire ring.

"Ice Barrier!"

Salazar protected himself only by ducking toward the ropes and summoning a shield of solid ice.

When the fire cleared, smoke billowed through the hall. And from within it stood a furious Raigetsu.

He charged at his opponent, abandoning any thoughts of defense. Pure offense. There was no point in dragging the fight on anymore.

Salazar barely managed to dodge. But his wound was now his worst enemy.

The moment his legs gave out—a powerful punch slammed into his gut.

Blood spilled from Salazar’s mouth.

It continued—hopelessly. He dodged. He got hit. Evaded again. Took a blow to the head.

How could he win? I had no idea.

Come on, you smug worm... Were your words about being unbeatable just lies?

Think of something! You have to win. Isn’t that your goal?

Wasn’t this the reason you lived? Hurry up and think of something already!

WHAM!!

With a single touch, Salazar summoned a giant block of ice from his palm. It hurled his opponent to the other side of the ring.

Then, Salazar levitated upward. Rising above the ring, he slowly moved his arms. In that moment, his gaze seemed truly calm.

Could it be?!

Was he about to reveal another ace up his sleeve? A second Supreme technique?

"Let’s go!" shouted Raigetsu. "Let’s see whose ability is stronger!"

They both raised their hands, fingers forming intricate seals.

"Supreme Magicka..." whispered Salazar.

"Supreme Destruction!" Raigetsu roared.

Suddenly, the space around them changed to match the nature of their abilities.

Frost flowed from Salazar, chilling even the air around him. His entire body was enveloped in ice.

Raigetsu, on the other hand, radiated red plasma surging in all directions.

And when we finally realized... this battle was no longer about victory.

It was a clash of raw power.

Before us collided two overwhelming forces—techniques so powerful they could reshape reality itself!

"Blizzard Kingdom."

"Dead Man’s End!"
