Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 944 - 944 934 Mother and Child's Connected Hearts
944: Chapter 934: Mother and Child’s Connected Hearts 944: Chapter 934: Mother and Child’s Connected Hearts Gao Yang drove alone to an address the cleaner had given him, now in a busier part of the city.
Though it was night, many cars were still parked along the road.
Gao Yang circled the agreed spot but saw no one, so he dialed the contact number left for him.
Upon answering the call, the other party made no sound.
Gao Yang was used to the cleaners’ mysterious ways, so he began, “I am Ram, I’ve arrived, alone.
I’m in a black Ford sedan.”
“I see you, stop, get out alone, turn around, and stand under the brightest streetlamp.”
Following the instructions, Gao Yang positioned himself under a streetlamp and after halting, heard on the phone, “Turn around on the spot, move slowly, I need to verify your identity.”
After Gao Yang slowly turned around, the voice on the phone said, “At your four o’clock, there is a silver sedan.
Walk towards it and stand with your back to the passenger door.”
Gao Yang spotted the silver car and walked over.
It was parked in a dark corner, with very dark windows; it was pitch black inside and he couldn’t see if anyone was there.
Gao Yang thought it unnecessary to make such a production out of getting a fake death certificate, much like a spy rendezvous.
But whatever they said, he did.
They were an organization that operated in the shadows; he didn’t need to go against their ways.
Turning naturally to lean against the passenger side window of the sedan, Gao Yang felt the glass behind him open a crack, then something pressed against his back.
Gao Yang reached back, grabbing a stack of papers and pulling them out.
That was it; he could leave.
But just as Gao Yang was about to go, he heard a soft voice from inside the car, “A piece of advice, buddy.”
Without turning, Gao Yang softly replied, “Go ahead.”
“We’re cleaners, we’re busy.
Even though you’re a second-tier client, but buddy, getting a mere death certificate is nothing special; anyone can do it.
So let’s not bother us with such trifles again, okay?”
Gao Yang indeed felt he might have made too much of a small thing, but there was no helping it.
It wasn’t worth involving Morgan for such minor matters, as he wouldn’t necessarily be available for smaller tasks.
Little Donnie needed to be cautious of danger from Tomler, and Gao Yang didn’t want him handling this, so the cleaners were the easiest option.
Somewhat abashed, Gao Yang quietly said, “Sorry, it was urgent.”
“Fine, someone died, that’s the exception.
I can understand.
But another thing, New York asked me to tell you that the matter you entrusted requires a face-to-face meeting.”
Gao Yang tensed up, saying, “What, is there a problem?”
“Don’t ask me, I don’t know.
You’ll find out when you go to New York.
The contact method is unchanged, but only call when you’re able to meet immediately with our contact in New York.
If you can’t meet, then don’t contact at all.
Okay, you need to leave now.
We’ll watch you go.”
Gao Yang hoped that by the time of Bruce’s funeral, progress would have been made on his revenge plans.
He had already called the cleaners and briefly explained the desired outcome.
But now it seemed there might be a problem with them.
Unable to deduce any reason before the detailed meeting, Gao Yang had no choice but to suppress his doubts.
Back in his car, Gao Yang drove a distance before stopping.
He turned on the car’s light and examined the death certificate.
The death certificate, issued by the New York coroner, listed the cause of death as heart disease.
It included not only the death certificate but also records of Bruce’s admission to a New York hospital, his medical records, and details of the cause and time of death.
Finding nothing wrong, Gao Yang continued on his way to regroup with the others.
However, as he was driving, a call came in.
The call was from Lucica, who sounded somewhat panicked.
As soon as Gao Yang answered, Lucica immediately rushed out, “Boss, there’s a problem.”
“What happened?”
“Bruce’s mother called me.
I just turned on my phone and she called me right away.
She said she felt very uneasy and wanted to speak to Bruce.
What should I do?”
Lucica’s tone was filled with sadness and urgency, and she was on the verge of tears.
Gao Yang was extremely anxious and said, “What’s going on?
Did someone notify her?”
Lucica finally started sobbing, “She had a dream where Bruce came home.
When she woke up, she felt extremely bad, but she couldn’t get through to Bruce’s phone, so she called me instead.
I told her Bruce wasn’t with me.
What do I do…”
Gao Yang stood speechless, a resolute atheist, but now, at least he began to believe in the connection between mother and child.
Days had passed, and Gao Yang had thought he wouldn’t be particularly sad anymore, only left with anger.
But at this moment, amidst astonishment and sorrow, he remembered his own mother, and with tears he could not hold back, he whispered, “Hold off on telling her, comfort her.
I’ll be right there, wait for me to come back.”
Little Donnie and the others hadn’t left yet; they were originally heading to a funeral home, but they had stopped halfway.
When they were waiting to meet up with Gao Yang and the convoy, they saw Lucica holding the phone, sobbing, and the sorrowful expressions of everyone around.
They asked urgently, “What’s the situation?”
Lucica raised her head, her tear-filled eyes meeting Gao Yang’s, and said softly, “I told them, I said Bruce is dead.”
Gao Yang paused in his tracks, helplessly saying, “Didn’t I say to hold off on saying anything…”
Glolov gently shook his head and said, “She guessed.
Bruce’s mother guessed.
She directly asked if Bruce was dead.
She had a feeling.
She just wanted to know the truth.”
Gao Yang’s mind was in chaos.
After a long sigh, he asked, “Then what?”
Lucica sobbed, “She asked us to bring Bruce back home.
She said Bruce was homesick.
She wanted to see Bruce.”
Gao Yang shook his head and said to Andy He, “You be careful.
If something seems off, take the old lady to the hospital.
Now, we go to Bruce’s home.”
The convoy set off again, silent; each car filled with deadly quiet.
Bruce’s home was on the eastern edge of Seattle’s inner city, the place of his birth.
When his father was alive, they were middle class.
But after his father passed away and Bruce developed a drug addiction, Bruce nearly went bankrupt, and the bank almost seized the house.
After joining Satan and coming into money, he didn’t buy a large house in the suburbs like Little Donnie.
He simply stayed in his original home, only having it renovated.
Bruce’s house was in a typical American community, and the house itself was a typical American wooden structure.
As the convoy entered the community and progressed along the path, Lucica pointed to a brightly lit detached house and said softly, “That’s the place.”
The convoy stopped in front of Bruce’s home.
Gao Yang saw an elderly person standing beneath the porch outside the house.
As the four-car convoy pulled up, the white-haired elder began to approach them.
Bruce’s mother was only in her sixties, not particularly aged, but at that moment, she staggered with a panic-stricken expression, the white hairs interspersed in her brown hair particularly striking.
They got out of the cars, and Gao Yang approached Bruce’s mother, saying solemnly, “I’m sorry, Mrs.
William.
We, we…”
Lucica also got out of the car, barely able to stand, being supported by Eileen.
Bruce’s mother nodded at Gao Yang and then gripped Lucica’s hand, asking urgently, “Lucy, Lucy, where is Bruce?”
Lucica glanced back.
Then Gao Yang stood beside Mrs.
William, gently holding her to prevent her from falling.
After a nod, a few people carried out Bruce’s coffin.
Bruce’s mother went weak at the knees.
Gao Yang quickly steadied her.
Covering her mouth with her hands and unable to stand as they placed the coffin before her, when they opened the lid and revealed Bruce looking as though he were asleep, his mother couldn’t help but cry out.
Then she slowly leaned forward to reach and touch Bruce’s face.
“Child, you’re back…”
Mrs.
William tenderly stroked Bruce’s face.
Lucica’s crying got louder, but then Mrs.
William looked up, tears on her face yet composed, and said to Gao Yang, “You must be Gao Yang, right?
Bruce talked to me about you many times.
Thank you for bringing him home.”
Gao Yang felt indescribable emotions and said, “Mrs.
William, I am so sorry.
Bruce saved all of us, but he…
I’m very sorry…”
Mrs.
William shook her head and said, “You don’t need to apologize.
I know what Bruce was doing.
He was prepared, and so was I.
Mr.
Gao, we can’t just stand by the roadside.
Please help me bring Bruce inside.
Lucy, Jack, and Jansen, you know this place well.
Please, everyone, come in.”
Mrs.
William maintained good composure, but her body betrayed her.
She was too weak to stand from grief, barely able to walk, relying on Gao Yang and Jansen to half-carry her to the living room.
After they placed the coffin in the living room and helped Mrs.
William to her chair, she seemed lost for a while, just staring silently at Bruce in the coffin, tears flowing, before she finally came to her senses and asked the people standing in the room, “Did you come back from Syria?”
Gao Yang nodded and said, “Yes, ma’am.”
Mrs.
William nodded slightly and said, “I know.
It must have been hard to bring Bruce home.
Thank you.
I appreciate you all bringing him home.”
Gao Yang and the others were completely at a loss for words.
Then, Mrs.
William hugged Lucica beside her and said softly, “Child, go ahead and cry.
It’s better to let the grief out.
But after crying, don’t be too sad.
Bruce has gone to heaven, and we…
we have to keep living.”
Then, suddenly, Eileen, who had been supporting Lucica, said, “Mrs.
William, maybe this news might give you some comfort, but Lucica is pregnant.
It’s Bruce’s child.” (To be continued.
