Mercenary’s War
Chapter 941 - 941 931 The Way Home

941: Chapter 931 The Way Home 941: Chapter 931 The Way Home The journey was arduous, with nearly a day and a night spent just reaching Lebanon.

However, boarding the plane in Lebanon happened quickly.

Mansour Kich arranged for a chartered flight.

Though it was a commercial airplane, Gao Yang and their crew could bring all their belongings, including the body of Bruce, of course.

The plane was large, and chartering a plane was expensive, but Mansour Kich didn’t ask for money.

This was because everything, including the airplane, was within the channels controlled by Grand Ivan, and although previously accessible by Polovich, now required Mansour Kich to step in for usage.

After all, arms smuggling couldn’t always rely on cargo planes; Grand Ivan always had some convenient and inexpensive channels.

After flying over the Atlantic Ocean, the plane landed in Puerto Rico.

There, it was Ivan’s territory, and indeed, Ivan’s men were waiting to receive the plane upon its landing.

They said they were bringing home a fallen Test Tube, and Ivan’s people showed great sincerity because they knew that Bruce had played a crucial role in Ivan’s survival.

It was still a chartered commercial flight, just on a smaller plane this time.

Although they still couldn’t get in touch with Ivan or Grand Ivan, Gao Yang and their journey encountered no obstacles whatsoever.

The plane took off from Puerto Rico, bound for Matamoros, which borders Texas.

The plane was about to land again, and Gao Yang felt uneasy—there had been one issue plaguing him throughout the trip.

What should he say when he met Bruce’s mother?

What could he say?

The news of Bruce’s death had not yet been conveyed to his mother.

Sudden news of her son’s death would be difficult for Gao Yang to deliver.

Jansen left his seat to check the back of the cabin and was about to return when Gao Yang looked up at him and asked in a hoarse voice, “How is it?

Everything okay?”

Jansen whispered back, “It’s fine, all good.”

Gao Yang nodded and buried his head in his hands again, troubled about how to break the news of Bruce’s death.

Jansen glanced at Gao Yang and, instead of returning to his seat, sat down next to him, whispering, “Boss, should we hold a funeral for Bruce first, or should we seek revenge first?”

Gao Yang had already decided.

He said solemnly, “First, the funeral.

It needs to be grand and ceremonious.

We owe that to him.

If we sought revenge first, something unexpected might happen.”

Gao Yang harbored traditional Huaxia beliefs in giving the dead rest in the earth.

Bruce had saved everyone in Satan except for himself.

Therefore, as survivors, they in Satan owed it to Bruce to hold a funeral.

It was the privilege of the prematurely deceased and a respect that only those who passed first could receive, although no one would wish to enjoy such a tribute.

After getting Gao Yang’s response, Jansen said seriously, “Boss, Bruce was of Scottish descent.

He would’ve wanted a Scottish funeral.

Would you let me be in charge of his funeral?”

Jansen was the latest addition to Satan, but his relationship with Bruce was the closest, at least as far as Jansen was concerned.

Whether in training or daily life, Bruce always helped Jansen.

They had plans to visit Scotland after this mission, take Lucica to see Jansen’s and Bruce’s homelands, but none of that would happen now.

Bruce’s death nearly shattered Jansen, to the point that Lucica had to comfort him.

After looking at Jansen, Gao Yang nodded and said, “Okay, think it through carefully on how to do it.”

Jansen had visited Bruce’s home and was very close to his mother.

After a moment’s hesitation, he softly said, “Boss, let me notify her of Bruce’s death.”

Gao Yang sighed and said, “No, I’ll do it.

It’s my responsibility.”

Jansen covered his face with his hands and said, “But you’ve never met his mother.”

Gao Yang sighed deeply.

Bruce had invited them to his home, but unfortunately, his home was in Seattle.

Though they had mentioned visiting, the timing was never right, and in the end, aside from Lucica and Jansen, no one had visited Bruce’s home.

Now, the crew was all present, but the returning Bruce had become nothing more than a corpse.

At that moment, Glolov, who had been asleep beside Gao Yang, suddenly opened his eyes and slowly said, “The task of notifying the family, let me handle it.

I’ve done this more often.

I have the experience.”

Glolov had actually never fallen asleep.

After opening his eyes, he said blankly, “Actually, it’s okay, Bruce, Bruce is still okay.

Let me do the talking; it won’t be too hard.

Back when we delivered the young lieutenant’s head to his family, there was nothing I couldn’t handle.

I guess I’m fairly good at comforting people.”

Gao Yang shook his head and let out a breath, “We’ll talk about it when the time comes.

We should try to gently break the news to Bruce’s mother about her son’s loss.

Also, we need to notify Jack.

He and Bruce were close friends.

I think he definitely wouldn’t want to miss Bruce’s funeral.”

Gao Yang felt even more distressed as he waved his hand dismissively, “Let’s not talk about this right now.

We still have some time.

Let me think, let me consider it properly.”

Just then, Frey, sitting by the window, spoke softly, “We’re already above land.”

Flying above land meant they were not far from Matamoros.

The plane had already begun to lower its altitude in preparation for landing.

Before long, the plane went through its runway slide and touched down on the tarmac.

There were too many prohibited items on the plane: firearms, ammunition, a body.

Any one of these could not possibly pass through customs; in fact, they could be arrested as soon as they disembarked.

Ivan’s men said that they had connections on the Mexican side too, but with the boss out of the picture and only the lower ranks left to communicate on their own, it was still unclear what the situation on the Mexican side was really like.

Because of this, as the plane was about to land, Gao Yang couldn’t help but worry.

When the plane stopped taxiing and the cabin door was not yet open, Gao Yang saw five vehicles beside the runway: two sedans and two vans.

Someone was standing by the vehicles, watching their plane.

As the cabin door opened, a Mexican quickly entered the plane, glanced around, and said solemnly, “The Ram is among us.”

Gao Yang stepped up to the doorway and replied, “That’s me.”

The Mexican nodded and whispered, “Condolences on your loss.

I wish to offer my deepest sympathy.

I’m one of Ivan’s men.

Although our boss is out of commission, if you have any requests, you may tell me.”

Gao Yang shook hands with the Mexican and said, “Thank you.

As long as you can get us safely to the border, it’s all I ask.

Much appreciated.”

The Mexican pointed at the line of vehicles next to the runway and whispered, “The Mayor of Matamoros is in one of those vehicles.

He, along with myself, will escort you to the border.

Ah, do you need me to arrange a way to get you across to the American side?”

Gao Yang heaved a sigh of relief, “Thank you very much.

I see that our safety here is guaranteed.”

The Mexican bowed slightly, “Here, you can do as you please.

Whether it’s the Matamoros Gang or the official government, they will treat you as an honored guest.

If you have your own channels, then I won’t interfere.

But if there’s any risk to your channels, let me handle it.

You know, as an employee of Ivan, I would be honored to assist you and the late Mr.

Test Tube as much as I can; that’s the least I can do on behalf of Ivan.”

Gao Yang inclined his head, “Then I’ll leave it to you.”

Without exchanging names, the Mexican gestured politely, quickly walked down, and opened the door of a black van.

Gao Yang and the others placed the coffin inside.

After leaving two men to watch over it, the rest boarded the vehicles.

Led by the sedan, they easily left the airport.

Matamoros was a border city, with Brownsville, Texas, just across the wall on the American side.

It wasn’t long before the bustling city gave way to the border crossing between Mexico and America.

Once in America, Morgan’s help would be needed.

Morgan was supposed to have someone waiting at the border crossing to pick up Gao Yang and the others, but as Ivan’s subordinates were very eager to show their capability, Gao Yang didn’t want to disregard their kindness.

Entering America from Mexico was normally quite troublesome due to stringent drug checks; nearly every vehicle had to be inspected.

As they approached the border crossing, the two sedans departed, but with the Mexican’s guidance, Gao Yang and his team lined up with the traffic and moved forward to the inspection area.

There, the Mexican merely showed his face, and although their vehicle was indeed checked, the numerous bags and the massive coffin inside were as if invisible.

Passing through the normally difficult border crossing with ease, the Mexican left on his own.

Shortly after, Gao Yang and his team pulled over and made a call.

Soon another convoy stopped along the roadside; these were Morgan’s men, sent to pick them up.

The man from Morgan’s side was Simon; everything had already been made clear over the phone.

Simon got out of the vehicle and personally helped Gao Yang transfer the coffin.

He walked over to Lucica and gave her a gentle hug, speaking with her for a while before returning to Gao Yang’s side.

Simon and Bruce were old acquaintances.

Even as someone accustomed to death, Simon still looked rather grim.

He approached Gao Yang and whispered, “Morgan couldn’t come here.

He’s waiting for you on the plane.”

Gao Yang responded quietly, “Alright, let’s go.

We’ll talk further on the plane.”

Though he said they would discuss further later, Simon paused for a moment before he couldn’t help but ask, “I’ve just returned and don’t understand the situation well.

I only know Test Tube is dead, but looking at him, how did he die?”

Gao Yang whispered, “Sarin.

We were set up.

It was a trap, and sadly, we fell for it.” (To be continued.
