Mercenary’s War
Chapter 910 - 910 900 Revenge

910: Chapter 900: Revenge 910: Chapter 900: Revenge Polovich quickly delivered the cars that very night.

In Iraq, Japanese cars are the most common, and a very large portion of them are second-hand cars imported directly.

As a result, the streets of Iraq are full of broken-down Japanese cars, which is why all four cars Polovich delivered were Toyotas since these would not attract special attention on Iraqi roads.

Polovich sent his own car, a seven-seater Land Cruiser that had been modified.

Though it looked like an old model from the late ’90s and was dirty and worn, beneath its exterior lay a brand-new chassis and engine.

Additionally, all the glass was bulletproof, and the doors contained hidden armor.

Although it couldn’t protect against RPGs, it could withstand close-range firing from a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun.

To ensure the cars were in good condition, Polovich had to provide ones that had been modified, like a 2009 sedan deliberately dirtied and stripped of all shiny parts to look old, yet unlikely to break down mid-trip.

As for the pickup truck, it was noteworthy that it carried a Cliff 12.7 mm caliber heavy machine gun.

To avoid making the target too conspicuous with a high gun mount, yet unable to forego a mount as it would make the machine gun too hard to control, Polovich installed an electrically controlled gun mount on the pickup.

Inside the vehicle or from outside, by pressing an electronic button, three supports mounted on an electric pulley would raise, lifting the heavy machine gun in six seconds.

When not in use, by pressing the button again, the gun would lower back into the bed of the truck, hidden under a tarpaulin cover.

Of course, no matter the extent of modifications to the vehicles, they couldn’t withstand a roadside bomb.

To safely deliver the goods, it was crucial to avoid combat.

Avoiding combat largely depended on the efforts of Tomler or the owner of the goods.

To pass safely through areas controlled by government forces and intricately interlaced armed territories, and beyond these, one had to rely on luck not to encounter bombs or to be mistakenly targeted with a rocket launcher.

Polovich was sincere, and he provided good vehicles, but Gao Yang and his team couldn’t use them yet, as they had not received the notification to leave.

Three days had passed, and they had been in the Green Zone for three full days.

Besides eating and drinking daily, they accompanied Frey in playing baseball—it felt like a vacation.

As for the mission, not only had they not set off, they hadn’t even heard anything definite.

Gao Yang contacted Tomler once and received the reply that the goods had been seized by armed forces, but Gao Yang and his team didn’t need to use force to retrieve it; they just had to quietly wait for news.

If within a week the goods were retrieved, they would depart then; if not, the mission would be canceled – the deposit would not be refunded, and there wouldn’t be any final payment.

The mission would just end in confusion.

Having received Tomler’s response, Gao Yang actually hoped the goods wouldn’t be retrieved so the mission would just end.

Being paid five million dollars to travel around Iraq might not be a dream destination, but it would be unreasonable to complain about being paid to take a vacation.

Gao Yang had accepted this and hoped it would indeed just be a vacation, but alas, fate had other plans.

It was getting close to dusk, the time when residents of the Green Zone were most active.

Gao Yang was playing baseball with Satan’s group when suddenly his phone rang.

It was a call from Tomler.

“Ram, I’ve finally resolved the problem,” Tomler said.

Exhaustion tinged his voice but relief was evident too.

“Tonight at midnight, someone will take you out of the Green Zone to pick up the goods.

Once you have the goods, the rest is up to you.

Get ready, and leave precisely at midnight.”

As he hung up, Gao Yang waved his hand and shouted, “Alright everyone, stop.

We’ve got work to do again, F**k, let’s go pack our things.”

Bruce straightened his back, took off his gloves, and said with a sense of relief, “Finally, no more waiting, that’s great!

The sooner we finish, the sooner we can go home.”

Seeing Frey and Robert also stop, Gao Yang hurriedly said, “You two keep playing, no worries.

We don’t leave until midnight, it’s not even six yet, there’s still plenty of time.”

Their gear was already packed, ready to grab and go.

Gao Yang didn’t want to cut into Frey’s practice time, considering the sun in Iraq was lethal during the day, and one could only really move around from afternoon until dusk.

Frey, holding his baseball bat, said, “Let’s just call it; the job is more important.”

Gao Yang’s mindset was like that of a parent who feared delaying their child’s education.

Frey, a worthy sparring partner, was not someone Gao Yang wanted to miss the chance to practice with.

“Don’t worry, just play here.

We’ll call you when it’s time to eat.

We’ll get ready, and you, well, you don’t need to, just enjoy yourself.”

After saying this a few times, Gao Yang summoned everyone and went back inside their residence to get their equipment ready.

Although they weren’t supposed to leave until midnight, it was better to prepare early just in case.

As for Frey, he and Robert stayed on the Baseball Field.

Ever since the fight with Crazy Johnson, no one had played baseball for the past two days, fearing accidental injuries during an act of revenge by Johnson.

While Gao was not afraid, he didn’t want another conflict, especially since it could lead to more severe complications within the Green Zone, where people from various companies resided.

However, according to Polovich, Crazy Johnson had broken his arm and was lying in a hospital, unlikely to leave anytime soon.

Polovich also thought that Johnson wouldn’t seek revenge.

Johnson was part of a medium-sized company; although he had many colleagues, he lacked significant influence.

Any act of revenge would require the personal involvement of those close to him, who were also in the hospital and unable to move.

With this information in hand, Gao Yang and his team confidently accompanied Frey on the Baseball Field for the past few days.

Robert, an enthusiast with a high level of skill in baseball, especially in batting, served as an excellent coach and sparring partner for Frey in aspects beyond pitching.

Although Gao Yang didn’t respect Robert, that didn’t stop him from letting Robert train Frey.

Besides getting free meals, especially drinks, Gao Yang agreed to pay him five hundred US Dollars a day, which was quite motivating for Robert, who hadn’t played baseball for years and enjoyed it even more than Frey.

Gao Yang’s team had all their gear on except for their guns.

They hadn’t strapped their guns on yet only because they were still within the Green Zone.

It was one thing to carry handguns; flaunting machine guns and rifles was another matter entirely.

The armed personnel maintaining security in the Green Zone could tolerate handguns since they posed little threat against their armored selves equipped with heavy machine guns.

However, it would be entirely different if people started wandering around with rifles and machine guns; it would definitely be strictly prohibited.

Gao Yang and his team stayed inside as it started to get dark, and Frey and Robert were expected back soon.

After dinner, it would be time to gear up fully for departure.

Checking his watch, Gao Yang, feeling hot from wearing a bulletproof vest, complained, “Man, we are just too professional.

Tomler said midnight, but we didn’t have to prepare this early, why bother?

It’s like we’re asking for trouble.”

Glolov shrugged, “Let it be, preparing early doesn’t hurt.

My experience is if someone gives you a timetable, just prepare for misfortune if you stick to it.

Timetables are like ceasefires—made to be broken.

Just wait and see; we’ll definitely get another notice that it’s either going to be moved up or delayed.

Timeliness is a virtue for us mercenaries, but it’s a luxury for our employers.”

Gao Yang smiled, “Alright, we should be prepared for our employers’ potential delays.

But I really don’t want to leave this air-conditioned room, so let’s just order delivery.”

Cui Bo stood up and laughed, “What do you guys want to eat?

I’ll place the order.”

After jotting down what everyone wanted, Cui Bo took his time leaving the room.

However, not long after he had left, he burst back into the room extraordinarily and yelled, “There’s a fight breaking out at Little Fly’s place!”

Everyone dropped what they were doing and rushed outside.

As Gao Yang ran out, he shouted, “What’s going on?”

No one answered Gao Yang because it wasn’t long before he could see for himself at the Baseball Field.

There were at least thirty people in hot pursuit, while two others were trying to escape.

It looked like the fight hadn’t started yet, but Frey and Robert were already surrounded.

Gao Yang roared, “No!

Quick, quick, quick!”

From their residence, which was about four or five hundred meters from the Baseball Field, Gao Yang had already drawn his handgun, but it wasn’t enough to help Frey out of harm’s way.

It would be faster to run there than to go back for a rifle.

At the other end, as the crowd slowly closed in and then suddenly charged, Frey realized something was wrong, but it was too late.

He hadn’t brought a walkie-talkie, a handgun, or a grenade because he had come to play baseball.

He knocked down a man who tried to tackle him; when Frey tried to escape in another direction, he was tackled around the waist and thrown to the ground.

As he struggled to get up, he was quickly pinned down by several others.

Robert was also restrained, and then Crazy Johnson, his right hand in a cast and hanging around his neck, his left hand holding a baseball bat, stood in front of Frey and grinned malevolently, “Did you think I would let you go?

Did you think that?

Huh, you thought wrong.”
