Mercenary’s War
Chapter 845 - 845 836 Grand Stage

845: Chapter 836: Grand Stage 845: Chapter 836: Grand Stage Gao Yang knew that the scheduled exercise time had already passed, but after the initial impatience, Gao Yang was finally able to run slowly with patience when he was told that the exercise plan was postponed indefinitely.

He ran from morning to noon, from noon to afternoon, from afternoon to evening, running until dinnertime.

Those who watched from the sidelines had to go eat, and as the audience kept changing shifts, he was still running.

Wolfgang looked, said to inform him after Gao Yang finished running and then left again, but as darkness approached and he still had not received the message, an impatient Wolfgang came out again.

Wolfgang stood next to Lieutenant M, but he did not disturb the instructors who had been standing by Gao Yang’s side all day, just quietly watching.

The discussions initially sparked by surprise had ended, and now everyone was quietly watching Gao Yang continue to run, leaving only Gao Yang’s slow and steady figure alone on the vast playground.

Gao Yang was running unconsciously, having surpassed his limits, he no longer felt fatigue; as long as he had not fallen and could still run, he would keep running.

Gradually, the soldiers who finished their meals came out of the dining hall, and almost all the soldiers who were not on duty gathered at the edge of the playground.

Although most of them didn’t know Gao Yang’s identity, it did not stop them from watching what they considered the birth of a miracle.

More people gathered around the playground as it was getting completely dark, and then suddenly, the large lights in a corner of the playground lit up at the same time, illuminating the playground brilliantly.

The playground of the military base usually wouldn’t turn on the lights, especially not all the floodlights, since it involved keeping the base’s location confidential.

However, today was an exception, the playground was not only open for Gao Yang alone, but also lit up just for him.

A unit of exceptionally high secrecy level suddenly became brightly lit, involving more than just the affairs of this military base, but Wolfgang was in charge, and so, the rarely used floodlights were turned on.

On the vast playground, only the figure of Gao Yang looked somewhat lonely.

This was a performance for Gao Yang alone, he had the stage, the lights, the audience, only it was void of any sound.

This time Wolfgang did not leave in a hurry, and although he had been standing for over three hours, Wolfgang, just like everyone else, watched quietly.

Gao Yang didn’t feel tired, but he felt his feet getting heavier, and it felt like there was a fire burning in his lungs.

He had forgotten why he was running, he just knew he had to keep running until he couldn’t run anymore.

Being fully armed, and carrying the equipment he would have in a real combat situation, Gao Yang carried a three-liter water bladder.

Gao Yang did not drink in large gulps; he would only sip a little when he felt very thirsty.

He was accustomed to running long distances with limited water, needing only a small amount of water to sustain him for a long duration.

Although he drank little, the three liters of water had already been finished, but Gao Yang had neglected this issue, his willpower pushing him to continue running.

Why run until he could no longer continue?

Actually, there was no reason; others wanted to see how long Gao Yang could run, and Gao Yang simply wanted to run as far as possible.

Finally, Gao Yang faltered.

Watching Gao Yang suddenly stumble as he ran, a low gasp arose from the crowd; though it was not loud, the sound of hundreds of people together was quite powerful.

“He can’t run anymore!”

“How fast is he?”

“The time for a lap is six minutes and twenty seconds, still very stable!”

Signified by a stumble, Gao Yang couldn’t take many steps without tripping, and he was no longer able to run smoothly.

“He’s reached his limit!

Definitely, he’s about to fall!”

Lieutenant M solemnly said, “Is it finally over?

I thought he could run forever, eighteen hours and forty minutes, a miracle!”

Major Nate solemnly said, “It’s not a miracle, it’s a will of steel!”

After staggering a few steps, Gao Yang finally collapsed to the ground, but he did not lose consciousness.

Upon falling, he immediately tried to support himself with his hands and stand up.

At this moment Major Nate suddenly exclaimed loudly, “Don’t waste this opportunity, quick, let him shoot!”

Lieutenant M urgently said, “Are we still conducting the joint exercise?”

Nate urgently said, “Joint exercise be damned!

His limit is nothing like a normal person’s; what’s the point of a joint exercise!

Quickly, let him shoot at the light targets!

Prepare the night vision device!”

Gao Yang’s instructor quickly ran to his side as Gao Yang struggled to stand again and shouted, “Don’t stop, follow me, get ready to shoot!

Quick!”

What was supposed to be a daytime drill somehow got dragged by Gao Yang to midnight, without night vision equipment prepared, and the daytime shooting range was no longer usable at night.

Fortunately, as soon as it got dark, a nighttime shooting range and equipment were readied for him.

Upon hearing the instructor’s words, a groggy Gao Yang remembered why he had to run, but his mind couldn’t immediately clear up.

In a daze, he took his rifle from his back and staggered behind the instructor towards the shooting range.

Gao Yang couldn’t run anymore; he could only walk.

Having changed the shooting range, the instructor needed to lead the way at the front.

The instructor walked in front, Gao Yang closely followed, behind Gao Yang were all members of the instructor team and the Satan Mercenary Corps, followed by Wolfgang and all the spectators beside the training ground.

Gao Yang staggered along for a few hundred meters, and the team behind him followed him to the shooting range.

After Gao Yang nearly fell into the shooting position, his instructor crouched next to him, pointing at a row of targets illuminated only by light, and yelled, “Four hundred meters, ten targets, hit them all to move to the next drill!”

The Blade of Satan was equipped with a white light scope.

At that moment, it definitely couldn’t be changed, so Gao Yang had to use light-illuminated targets.

Four hundred meters is the primary shooting distance for a marksman; Gao Yang raised his gun, thinking of nothing, aimed at the first target, and fired a shot.

The first shot accurately hit the target, eliciting a low murmur of amazement.

Gao Yang finally knew what it was like to be so tired he couldn’t even move his fingers, but he didn’t think this impeded his shooting much.

Only when he moved the muzzle, he found it slower than usual, which was something he wasn’t used to.

The second shot missed the target.

A failed shot allowed Gao Yang’s thinking capabilities to recover somewhat.

After seriously considering why he missed, Gao Yang realized he was too anxious.

In his exhausted state, shooting quickly as usual was unrealistic.

Gao Yang aimed again, hit the second target, and then, at what he thought was the most reasonable speed, he pursued accuracy instead of rapid fire.

The third target, the fourth, until the last one, Gao Yang never fired a second shot at the same target again.

After Gao Yang finished with the targets, his instructor was still looking at where only the light shone on thin air, where there should have been a metal target but which had now been knocked over, indicating Gao Yang’s shooting accuracy.

Nate urgently shouted, “What are you waiting for!

Assault, assault!”

Gao Yang’s instructor suddenly snapped out of it and yelled towards Gao Yang, who was lying on the ground, “Get up, use your shotgun, assault!”

While talking, the instructor put a helmet equipped with a night vision device on Gao Yang’s head.

Gao Yang placed his rifle on the shooting position, secured the helmet strap under his chin, and struggled to his feet.

Pulling the shotgun from his back and turning on the night vision device, Gao Yang followed his instructor’s guidance and staggered toward a mock building over three hundred meters away.

Live ammunition drills and shooting shouldn’t be too close, but now no one was adhering to that rule, except for Gao Yang’s instructor.

Everyone else followed Gao Yang and rushed towards the training field.

Arriving in front of a brick house, Gao Yang’s instructor yelled, “There are hostage targets inside, but you can shoot.

All targets can be your shooting targets; you don’t need to differentiate the hostages!”

Gao Yang slightly quickened his steps and charged toward a house, when a gun-toting target suddenly popped out from behind a window.

No longer could he be considered quick-eyed and fast-handed, but Gao Yang still raised his gun and blew a huge hole in the face of the target behind the window.

This training field was also arranged temporarily, as it was hastily converted from other people’s training grounds, so Gao Yang faced the most challenging targets, a mix of civilian and hostage targets.

Out of habit, he loaded a cartridge; Gao Yang stormed into the house, where three targets suddenly sprang up from the ground: a gun-toting target in the corner, a hostage target, and another target right next to the hostage, almost stuck together.

Gao Yang shot the target next to the hostage, knocked down the corner target, and without shooting the hostage target, quickly loaded two more rounds before walking out the back door.

Arriving at an area integrating more complex terrain of street fighting and indoor combat, Gao Yang started continuous firing.

Although the speed of firing, shooting, and reloading were all slow, Gao Yang made no mistakes, hitting each target accurately.

After entering another large room, suddenly at least twenty targets popped up in front of Gao Yang.

It was supposed to be a team drill for at least six people, but Gao Yang was the only one who had entered.

There was no need, and it wasn’t possible, for him to shoot down all the targets.

But Gao Yang had no more mental capacity to think whether he needed to take down all targets.

He mechanically raised his shotgun, spared the hostage target, and then quickly shot at each target.

The action of shooting and loading cartridges suddenly sped up; although not at its best, after Gao Yang had shot at least twelve targets, his attempt to load another cartridge came up empty.

Gao Yang threw down his shotgun, pulled out the handgun from his leg holster, and in quick succession fired four shots, knocking down the last four targets.

The instructor shouted, “Cease firing, the drill is over!”

On hearing the instructor’s command, Gao Yang raised his handgun, performed the standard procedure of removing the magazine, pulled back the slide to eject the bullet from the chamber, turned on the safety, and placed the handgun back in its holster, then neatly and cleanly collapsed to the ground, fainting.(To be continued.
