Mercenary’s War
Chapter 803 - 803 794 Hunting Encirclement

803: Chapter 794: Hunting Encirclement 803: Chapter 794: Hunting Encirclement Gao Yang adjusted the scope on his rifle and, after confirming that no one else would come in the short term, he returned to the cave to collect bullets for the AK74M.

In the cave, there were two AK74M rifles equipped with night vision scopes, but not the helmet-mounted night vision devices that Gao Yang preferred.

The AKM neither had a Picatinny rail nor the Russian-designed scope mount for the AK family, which included a specific slot for rifle scopes introduced after the AK74 series.

Unless specially modified, the AK47 family couldn’t mount a scope.

If he wanted to attack at night, the AK74M with the night vision scopes was Gao Yang’s only option, although he was not entirely confident in the stopping power of the 5.45 mm rifle cartridges.

But having no other choice, he had to properly adjust the misaligned scopes.

After using a full thirty bullets, Gao Yang still couldn’t adjust the scope to a precision range he could accept.

Eventually confirming that the issue was with the scope itself, he gave up on further adjustment.

There was no way around it; Russian products were known for their rugged reliability, but one shouldn’t expect too much in terms of precision, both in mechanical and electronic products.

Beyond adjusting the rifles, Gao Yang also did another important job: teaching the Chieftain how to use the ammunition pouches found on dead bodies.

For the Akuri people, who didn’t even wear clothes, carrying a large amount of ammunition was impossible; but with the ammunition pouches, each person could carry at least six magazines.

Without much delay, Gao Yang and his group descended from the mountain and headed straight for the mining camp, trying to contact Bantuna with his radio but without any luck.

Gao Yang had explained to the Chieftain the significance of the upcoming fight: avenging by killing an equal number of enemies and locating the real murderer were two completely different outcomes.

The camp was still some distance below a small hill, but it took them less than half an hour to run there.

By the time they ambushed in the nearby woods, they could still see people bustling around the camp, seemingly preparing something.

There were several hours left until dark, and even though they all had night vision devices, inferring the whole picture from a part was different.

Judging by the accuracy of the scopes obtained, the night vision scopes in Gao Yang’s hands and those in the enemy’s were completely different matters.

Don’t assume that anyone can use a scope.

Without professional training, long-term study, or at least some theoretical knowledge, an uncalibrated scope is certainly no better than plain iron sights.

In Africa, unless in the hands of well-trained soldiers, nine out of ten sniper rifles with scopes are just for show.

The quality of the rifle also depended on whose hands it was in; a rifle with a night vision scope fiddled with by Gao Yang was a good rifle.

In the hands of those who didn’t know how to calibrate it, it was not much use apart from its night vision capability.

Therefore, if they attacked at night, Gao Yang was confident he could easily neutralize the enemies, including the Tuareg Old Fox.

None of them posed any threat anymore.

At night, although the battlefield was not entirely transparent in Gao Yang’s favor, it was precisely targeted from his perspective, and that was where his confidence came from.

Gao Yang planned to act at night, but as they lay in ambush less than two hundred meters from the camp, watching the incessant movement of people inside without any guard or willingness to shoot, he wasn’t necessarily waiting for night to act.

However, he had a principle: unless he saw Sadik, the Tuareg Old Fox, or Salvi, he wouldn’t immediately make a move.

The problem was, Gao Yang didn’t actually know what his highest-priority targets looked like.

The Old Fox wore a veil, Sadik had only spoken in the pitch-dark cave, and as for Salvi, Gao Yang had just heard the name.

He only knew this person looked fierce, but what that fierce appearance entailed, he really had no idea.

To him, all enemies looked the same; they were just targets to be taken down with one shot, none especially fierce-looking.

While Gao Yang was intensely observing, the Chieftain quietly approached him and whispered, “White Child, we are too far from our prey; we need to get closer to hit them.”

Not wanting the Chieftain and his men to take risks, two hundred meters was the closest distance Gao Yang could accept, but the Chieftain and his people simply couldn’t hit targets at that distance.

After hearing the Chieftain’s words, Gao Yang whispered back, “It’s okay, you don’t need to go over; I can handle it alone.”

The Chieftain looked puzzled and said, “Why?

This is a hunt.

Why should you do everything by yourself?”

Gao Yang was at a loss for words.

In the Akuri tribe, everything was done together, especially hunting, which required close cooperation and effort from everyone.

Now, to tell the Chieftain they weren’t needed, Gao Yang really didn’t know what to say.

After hesitating for a moment, Gao Yang whispered, “How close do you need to be to hit them?”

The chieftain made a gesture and said, “The farthest is with three arrows, but we usually shoot from twice that distance, and by then we can definitely hit the target.”

Gao Yang was speechless.

The Akuri tribe used small bows and short arrows, which did not reach far; the distance of three arrows was at most about a hundred meters, and two arrows were only fifty to sixty meters.

The chieftain and his men could hit targets at that distance, but any enemy who was not blind could surely do the same.

Normally, everything in the Akuri tribe was decided by the chieftain, but since Gao Yang had taught them how to use guns, the chieftain definitely had to consult him when it came to fighting.

Seeing the hopeful look on the chieftain’s face, Gao Yang said reluctantly, “It’s too close, very dangerous.”

The chieftain was stunned for a moment and said, “Why dangerous?

We have always hunted like this, and when fighting those bad people, to ensure we hit them, we shoot from the distance of one arrow.”

Gao Yang was also momentarily stunned and asked, “You shoot at those bad people from the distance of one arrow?”

The chieftain nodded and said, “Yes, one arrow’s distance, and we killed two.”

Looking at the rather dense forest, Gao Yang nodded and said, “Alright, let’s silently make our way over there, but let’s not get too close.”

To avoid being spotted by planes or satellites from the sky, the mine camp was built within a forest, though the trees were somewhat sparse, there was still a lot that could serve as cover.

Gao Yang felt that the chieftain and his men were experienced and should not have too much trouble.

It wouldn’t be right to exclude the chieftain and his men from the battle of revenge, so Gao Yang could only agree to the chieftain’s request.

Bending over, Gao Yang took a couple of steps forward, waved his hand, and then three people silently stood up from behind the surrounding trees and bushes, following the chieftain silently towards the camp.

In terms of stealth engagement, Gao Yang didn’t need to teach the chieftain anything.

During their extensive hunting careers, they had always had to carefully approach their prey without being seen or making a sound; every member of the Akuri tribe was a master in this regard, and in this aspect, Gao Yang was the student.

Gao Yang, wearing boots, was the loudest of the group.

Although he no longer had much of a problem with agility and reaction when moving, when he first started hunting with the chieftain, he was always the one lagging behind.

At that time, he and the very young Kusto had joined the Akuri tribe’s hunting team together, but Kusto had picked it up much faster than he had.

When they silently got to within less than fifty meters of the camp, the chieftain wanted to get even closer, but Gao Yang dared not let them move any nearer.

He waved his hand at the chieftain, indicating they should take cover right there.

As Gao Yang was bending down looking for a spot suitable for both hiding and shooting, he suddenly heard a loud bang and looked up to see a man fling open a door, and from a house with windows, a man angrily shouted, “Salvi!

When will you be ready!”

Another man standing by a car shouted, “Soon, they will be here any minute, max twenty minutes.”

Gao Yang was both shocked and pleased.

The man speaking was Captain Sadiq, recognizable just by his voice, and the respondent was exactly Salvi, the very man he most wanted to find.

This confirmed two targets he needed to eliminate and were his highest priority.

Gao Yang didn’t bother looking for cover anymore, fearing he might not get such a good opportunity again, and immediately raised his rifle.

Captain Sadiq looked out the door, seemingly not planning to leave the building but to go back inside; Salvi stood by a car, ready to duck behind it if a shot was fired, and the distance between the two men was rather long, reducing the likelihood that Gao Yang could take down both of them with continuous shots.

Gao Yang immediately pointed at Salvi and whispered, “Chieftain, see the man standing by the car?

Shoot him!”

The chieftain and a few others immediately raised their guns, and the chieftain’s men fired much faster than Gao Yang had imagined.

Just after Gao Yang had taken aim at Sadiq, he heard a volley of gunfire.

The sound of the gunfire made Sadiq instinctively bend down, but before he could take cover in the building, Gao Yang immediately fired.

He fired a short burst and saw blood spurting from Sadiq’s waist and legs, then Gao Yang shouted, “Fire!

Fire at will!”

Sadiq fell to the ground still moving, the people in front of the camp’s buildings were now in complete disarray.

Gao Yang turned to look, Salvi had also fallen, the chieftain and his men hadn’t let him down.

Typically, the most common mistake among rookies is to keep the finger on the trigger until all the ammunition is wasted, but after Gao Yang had shouted to fire at will, the chieftain and his men still fired one shot at a time, not even indulging in a short burst, absolutely not wasting ammunition.
