770: Chapter 761: Do You Believe Me?
The fourteen people who were still alive, their hands bound, ran to the front of Gao Yang and the others without a single absence.
When Gao Yang saw that the hostages running toward them were blocking his line of fire, he shouted loudly, “Radar, herd them to one side, they’re blocking my line of sight.”
Bantuna stood up and waved and yelled at the dozen or so people running towards him, “Spread out to the sides, don’t block the bullets, make way.”
Gao Yang had been keeping an eye on the situation inside the sentry post, but the people inside the post showed no reaction and allowed the hostages to escape without taking any measures.
With their hands bound, it would be very difficult to run, and even more exhausting.
On a stretch of about five hundred meters, all of the fleeing hostages tumbled several times.
When those hostages staggered near Gao Yang and the others, each of them lay on the ground, too tired to stand, only gasping for air hastily.
Gao Yang urgently said, “Radar, ask them what happened.”
Bantuna loudly asked the person closest to him in English, “Who are you, and why are you tied up?”
After the person spoke a few hasty sentences, Bantuna turned to Gao Yang and said, “It’s Amharic, these people are Ethiopians!”
Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia and the most spoken language.
Given that Gao Yang and his team were located on a protruding part of Sudanese territory, sandwiched between South Sudan and Ethiopia, Gao Yang was not very surprised that the people brought in as hostages were Ethiopians.
“Are they all Ethiopians?
Why were they captured?”
After Bantuna turned his head and spoke a few sentences in Amharic, he turned back and said, “All Ethiopians.
They don’t know where this is.
These people are all from one village, which was attacked the day before yesterday.
Almost everyone in the small village was killed, leaving only these people.”
Gao Yang nodded and said, “Attacked the day before yesterday?
Ask him how long they walked.”
Bantuna quickly asked and then turned to Gao Yang, “After the attack, the captured people were put on trucks and kept walking without any stops until they arrived here, except for two short breaks before reaching this place.”
Gao Yang said in a heavy voice, “Okay, I get it.
Let them go.”
After Bantuna shouted, several men got up from the ground one after another, walked fearfully and reluctantly toward Bantuna.
Bantuna pulled out his machete, walked behind one of them, and cut the rope that bound his hands.
After cutting the rope off one person’s hands, Bantuna suddenly said, “Hey, this guy even picked up a gun.”
A young-looking teenager had picked up an AKM rifle from the ground with his hands tied behind his back during the escape and, despite falling twice, had never dropped the rifle.
Bantuna walked behind the young man who had been holding the rifle upside down and reached to take the rifle he had picked up, but surprisingly, he couldn’t pull the gun away.
Bantuna was not a man of a good temper.
After slamming the butt of the gun into the young man’s back, he shouted loudly, “Idiot, let go of your gun.”
After angrily seizing the rifle that the hostage had struggled to pick up, Bantuna still cut the rope on the young man’s hands.
After gaining his freedom, the young man turned around, brought his hands together in a pleading gesture toward Bantuna and said, “Please, give me back my gun.
I just want to kill those bad guys, please, give it back to me.”
Bantuna said irritably, “Shut up, you idiot.
Don’t do anything suicidal.
Stay honestly with your people.
I’m not known for my patience, got it?
Now get down over there, quick!”
After severely scolding the young man, Bantuna handed his machete to one of the older men and said, “Go cut the ropes off your people and then bring the knife back to me.”
After glaring warningly at the man who took the machete, Bantuna looked at the AKM in his hand, pulled back the bolt to look inside, then turned to the young man and said, “Where did you find this gun, in the hands of someone in uniform, or from the people who bound you?”
The teenager said softly, “It was taken from the people who bound us.”
Bantuna nodded, walked over to where Gao Yang was lying, and whispered, “We’ve been spotted, and no one dares to come out after your shooting.
They’re definitely planning to wait for darkness before leaving the building.
Take a look at this gun; it was picked up from those dressed as civilians.”
Gao Yang put down his hunting rifle, sat down on the ground, took the rifle passed by Bantuna, removed the magazine, pulled back the bolt, peered into the chamber, then examined the barrel and said in surprise, “This gun is in really good condition, very well maintained.
Are you sure it was picked up from those dressed as civilians?”
Bantuna gestured with his hand toward the young man who picked up the rifle and shouted loudly, “Come here, I have some questions for you.”
Once the young man came closer, Gao Yang asked loudly, “You’re sure you picked this rifle up from someone, right?
Also, what language were those people speaking when they attacked you?”
The teenager looked at Gao Yang’s face, slightly afraid.
After Bantuna translated Gao Yang’s words, the teenager immediately said, “We couldn’t understand what they were saying, but I indeed picked up the rifle from the hands of the attackers.”
Gao Yang carefully looked at the AKM in his hands, reinserted the magazine, and after chambering a round, he aimed at a small target over a hundred meters away and fired four bullets.
He then discovered that each shot had accurately hit the target.
Gao Yang shook his head at Bantuna and said, “This isn’t a typical African gun, the sights are very accurate, and the rifling is almost unworn.
But it’s evident that this gun isn’t new.
I don’t believe that those with such poor combat skills would know how to maintain this weapon.”
Bantuna said seriously, “What if someone forced them to meticulously maintain their weapons?
Like a mercenary group, or an army?”
Gao Yang exhaled and asked, “Do you think it’s more likely that these people are mercenaries, or that they’re military?”
Bantuna frowned and said, “It’s hard to tell.
Mercenaries act without any restraint, but I’ve also seen regular soldiers do even more outrageous things once they let loose.”
Gao Yang nodded and said, “The accuracy of this gun is quite good, it can ensure the precision I need within two hundred meters.
It’s much better than Jansen’s worn-out gun with almost worn-out rifling.”
Bantuna asked, “What about it?”
Gao Yang chuckled and said, “With this gun, I can close in on them and shoot.
Let’s not waste any more time and take care of the rest.
I still want to figure out what exactly is going on here.”
Bantuna looked surprised and said, “Are you saying you want to use an AK-47 instead of your sniper rifle?
And you also want to get closer to shoot?
Are you alright?
You’re a marksman!”
Gao Yang laughed and said, “First of all, this is an AKM, not an AK-47.
Secondly, my gun is a hunting rifle, not a sniper rifle.
Lastly, I am a marksman, not a sniper.”
Waving the rifle in his hand, Gao Yang grinned and said, “I like guns with high rates of fire.
Those people think they’ll be safe in the houses, so let’s go give them a surprise.
How about it, do you dare?”
Bantuna chuckled and said, “You’re the boss.
If you dare, so do I.
It’s no big deal.”
Gao Yang turned to Jansen and said, “Your shooting is very accurate, right?
You can use this gun, can’t you?”
Looking at the hunting rifle in front of Gao Yang, Jansen nodded and replied, “I can use it, but I can’t guarantee the same accuracy as you, not at all.”
Gao Yang waved his hand and said, “No worries, use this gun to cover us.
Radar and I will approach the outpost.
Before it gets dark, I want to resolve the fight.
Oh, give me a few of your magazines, three will be enough.”
Jansen hesitated and said, “I haven’t been trained as a sniper.
I’m not sure I can provide good cover, and isn’t what you’re doing too risky?”
Gao Yang laughed and said, “No problem, just stay here and cover us.
Also, don’t call back the drone.
As long as it has power, keep scouting and inform us if there’s any situation.
Okay, Radar, let’s go.”
After taking three magazines and placing them where they were easily accessible, Gao Yang waved his hand, and he and Bantuna sprinted towards the outpost.
Jansen quickly climbed up to the position Gao Yang had been shooting from and shouted, “Don’t rush, I’m not ready yet.”
Ignoring Jansen, Gao Yang and Bantuna moved closer to the outpost from the woods, one after the other.
When they got within three hundred meters, they had to keep circling closer to the outpost or leave the cover of the trees to cross open ground.
Stopping behind a large tree, Gao Yang took a few glances at the outpost.
Pointing at a few wooden huts, he said, “Based on my observation just now, they went into three huts.
The two on the left, and the one on the right-hand side.”
After looking at them, Bantuna said, “All the women are in the two huts on the left, and it seems like only the outpost’s soldiers and those two Caucasians are in the one on the right, if I remember correctly.”
Gao Yang nodded and said, “That’s right, that’s the situation.
See that pickup truck?
It’s about fifty meters away from the outpost’s huts.
Do you know how to use a heavy machine gun?”
Bantuna gave Gao Yang a wary glance and asked, “What are you planning to do?”
Gao Yang whispered, “We’ll get within two hundred meters and then cover you.
You get on that pickup and use the heavy machine gun to strafe the hut on the right.”
Bantuna shook his head like a rattle-drum, saying urgently, “Stop kidding.
I can operate a heavy machine gun, but if the people inside that hut burst out, a dozen guns firing a single burst could turn me into a beehive.
I don’t want to die for nothing.”
For the men of the Satan Mercenary Corps, Gao Yang’s command didn’t require any deliberation, they’d simply act.
They had absolute confidence in Gao Yang’s abilities.
But for Bantuna, who had only recently started working together, it wasn’t the same story at all.
Gao Yang’s idea was outright terrible.
Understanding Bantuna’s concerns, Gao Yang could only say helplessly, “Do you trust me?
If you do, then listen to me.” (To be continued.
