Mercenary’s War
Chapter 728 - 728 720 Can't Catch Up

728: Chapter 720 Can’t Catch Up 728: Chapter 720 Can’t Catch Up After giving the two bodies a serious look, Gao Yang knew for sure that they were the handiwork of Li Jinfang.

Gao had trained in combat under Li Jinfang, so he could easily recognize some of Li’s basic and common moves at a glance, especially since many of them were also frequently used by himself.

However, after examining the bodies, Gao couldn’t help but be astonished at the power behind Li’s strikes.

Although Gao could confirm that Li Jinfang was the one who killed these people, he didn’t rush to leave; instead, he carefully examined each body one by one.

There was more to be discerned from examining the bodies.

After pacing back and forth in the morgue for a few steps, Glolov suddenly said, “Toad used a knife, which shows how angry he really was.”

Gao nodded and replied, “That’s right, he used a knife.

I can’t be totally sure of the order in which he struck, but you can tell that, apart from the four who were beaten to death by Toad head-on, the rest were caught up from behind and killed.”

Gao pointed at a corpse whose neck was halfway severed from behind and said, “He was the last to be killed by the knife.

After punching one to death and kicking another to death, there were three others killed with the knife.

Then he took a gun and killed someone face-to-face and another from the side, and after that, those that remained were killed from behind, with four being shot twice—shot in the body, followed by a close-range shot to the head.”

After Gao had finished speaking, Tommy suddenly said, “What did these people do to make Toad so furious?

He was clearly intent on killing them all.”

Gao sighed, “Isn’t that obvious?

It must be related to the girl who died.

Guys, when I found out it wasn’t Toad who had died, I was relieved.

But after seeing these bodies, I started to worry again.

Without a doubt, the girl who died must have been related to Toad—at the very least, someone he cared deeply about.

So, I can say with certainty that Toad has gone mad.”

Frey also nodded and said, “That’s right, Toad must have lost his mind.”

Grolov frowned and said, “A Toad who has lost his reason is bad news.

He could do anything now.

We have to find him and stop him from going any further insane.”

Gao waved his hand dismissively, and after the group left the morgue, they saw a police officer and Pascal waiting under the shade of a tree at a considerable distance.

When they emerged, the two men approached to meet them.

As the police officer went to lock the door of the morgue, Gao whispered to Pascal, “Can you get more information from that police officer?

We want to know exactly what happened.”

Pascal nodded, whispered a few words to the police officer, and then came back to Gao, saying, “No problem, give him another five hundred dollars and he’ll tell you everything you want to know.”

Frey took out the money and the police officer, with a giddy smile, pocketed it before proceeding to clearly lay out the whole sequence of events to Gao and the others.

Yesterday afternoon, a Huaxia man and woman encountered a robbery in the busiest commercial district of Pointe Noire.

Eyewitnesses said that two black men armed with knives were committing the robbery, and the Huaxia man knocked both of the knife-wielding robbers to the ground.

As the robbers hit the ground, gunshots were fired by accomplices of the robbers from behind the two Huaxia.

Everything happened so quickly; the Huaxia woman was shot, as was the man.

It was then that the two knocked-down robbers got up and ran away, followed swiftly by the gunman after seeing his partners flee.

The Huaxia man didn’t chase the robbers.

Instead, he carried the wounded woman to the nearest hospital, but by the time she was brought in, the girl had already died.

After delivering the girl to the hospital and upon the doctor’s announcement of her death, the man disappeared.

That night, not far from where the shooting had occurred during the day, a Huaxia man appeared to attack a group of people who were gathered together.

A total of nineteen people, eighteen were killed on the spot, and one was taken hostage by the man suspected to have left the hospital.

The kidnapped person spoke English, made a living by duping foreigners, and the police suspected that it was because of his ability to speak English that he was spared by the attacker, who appeared to be a Huaxia man, and taken away.

The rundown was simple, but Gao and the others finally understood the full story.

After listening to the police officer recount everything, Gao asked in a deep voice, “Pascal, ask him if he knows where the Huaxia man is now?”

After Pascal translated Gao’s question, the police officer shook his head vigorously and babbled on at length, after which Pascal shook his head and said, “He says no one knows.

The whole of Pointe Noire is looking for him, but no one can find him.”

Unable to squeeze out any more valuable information, Gao and his group planned to leave the police station.

They retraced their original route, but as they passed through the police station’s main hall, Gao suddenly noticed that the police officers seemed to be in chaos; a dozen or so were frantically sprinting towards the main entrance, and outside, several police cars were starting up.

It was then that a police officer yelled into his walkie-talkie pinned to his chest as he ran past Gao.

Pascal stopped in his tracks, hesitated for a moment, and then whispered to Gao Yang, “Sir, I think I should tell you, what the officer just said was, ‘All reinforcements, we must detain that Huaxia person.'”

Gao Yang was shocked and immediately waved his hand, causing several people to quickly run out of the police station.

Just as they reached the outside, a familiar black man approached them—it was the taxi driver who had brought Gao Yang and his group over.

Having taken a taxi there, they certainly had to leave by taxi, and the driver had no intention of letting go of the generous Gao Yang and his passengers.

Gao Yang hastily said to Pascal, “Tell him to catch up with the police car in front, tell him there’s a lot of money in it for him if he can keep up!”

With only one taxi available and anxious to follow the police, Gao Yang and his men didn’t have time to look for another cab.

The driver didn’t mind at all as he pushed Gao Yang and the others into the rickety taxi and then started the car, honking continuously as he weaved through traffic and pedestrians on the road.

Gao Yang sat in the back, half of his rear end sticking out the window, as he realized he could no longer see the trace of the police car.

Gao Yang urgently yelled, “Do you know where the police car went?”

Pascal, sitting in the passenger seat, didn’t ask the driver but turned his head and shouted, “Don’t worry, there’s no place a taxi can’t find; he’ll definitely get you there.

Hey, guys, I’ve got to leave, I don’t want to get involved in your matters; I don’t want any trouble.”

Pascal had realized by now that he had inadvertently boarded a ship of thieves.

That Huaxia person had killed over a dozen people, and now, he was together with the Huaxia person’s accomplices.

It would be odd not to be afraid.

Gao Yang completely understood Pascal’s feelings and shouted with effort, “Don’t worry, we won’t cause you any trouble.

Name a price that would change your mind, quick!”

Pascal was a bit scared, but Gao Yang’s words were too powerful; the allure of money overcame his fear.

After gritting his teeth, Pascal held up two fingers and, through gritted teeth, said, “I want two thousand dollars.

Without that amount, I definitely won’t take the risk!”

Gao Yang couldn’t free his hands, so he urgently said, “Who has cash?

Give it to him, give him a few thousand more.”

Frey struggled to take out a stack of banknotes from his jacket pocket and handed Pascal a wad, saying, “Whatever this amounts to, take it.

Listen, if you can help us see this through, all this money is yours, ten thousand US dollars.”

Pascal immediately stopped talking, and the taxi driver’s eyes almost popped out as he saw the stack of money being handed back and forth before him.

The taxi that Gao Yang and his men were in was a very small Citroen, and Gao Yang only knew the brand, not the model because the taxi was so dilapidated that it barely had a body left.

There were no windshields on the car doors, and there were cracks on the front windshield.

As for the car’s original color—whether it was supposed to be white or red—it was impossible to tell, as both colors were present on the car’s body.

A horribly battered taxi began a frenzied race for life, posing a fatal threat not only to pedestrians on the road but also to Gao Yang and his men within the car.

Gao Yang was brave enough, but even he couldn’t help but let out cries of alarm, and eventually, he simply closed his eyes, feeling the centrifugal force, and struggled to grab the seat to prevent himself from being thrown out the window.

Finally, Gao Yang spoke up, struggling to say, “I’m going to be sick.”

Tommy was sitting below Gao Yang, and although he was seated, it was far from comfortable.

It would be strange to feel comfortable when the back seat of the small car, which was supposed to hold only two people, was packed with four burly men.

Tommy yelled, “Hold on, we are almost there; just hold on.”

Gao Yang clenched his mouth shut and dared not speak.

Just then, Pascal suddenly shouted, “We’re here, we’ve arrived!”

Gao Yang and the others got out of the taxi, staggering, and looked around to see a usually busy intersection cordoned off; there were at least twenty or thirty police cars blocking both ends of the road.

But at that moment, all the policemen were running around the street, shouting, and occasionally a policeman would run out of a building by the side of the road carrying someone who was either a body or an injured person.

Needing translation, Pascal steeled himself and took a couple of steps forward with Gao Yang, but upon witnessing the scene on the street, he suddenly vomited, as there were three corpses in front of him with white brains and colorful intestines spilled all over the ground.

Having never seen such a scene before, Pascal, who was already a bit car sick, couldn’t help it, and as soon as Pascal vomited, Gao Yang followed suit.

Back to back, in the midst of vomiting, Gao Yang urgently said, “What are the police shouting?

Tell me, quick.”

“They say, they say the suspect is alone and has fled north.

They have arrived too late.

Oh, I think, I think we have arrived too late too.”(To be continued.
