Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 722 - 722 714 Unlucky
722: Chapter 714: Unlucky 722: Chapter 714: Unlucky After Gao Yang finished the call, Yelena shouted from the bathroom, “Darling, have you finished your call?”
Swimming in the sea required rinsing off with fresh water, which was a bit of a hassle, but being with Yelena, Gao Yang never found it bothersome because he could enjoy a romantic bath.
To really enjoy a vacation, one must indulge, and what greater indulgence than a hot bath in the oversized jacuzzi, watching the sunset through a huge glass window?
Bathing was already pleasurable, and even more so with Yelena, sweet as honey, by his side.
“I’m coming!”
Unable to contain his excitement, Gao Yang bellowed and pushed open the bathroom door, rushing towards the bathtub, or rather, towards Yelena.
Barefoot, Gao Yang neared the bathtub and before he could embrace Yelena, he slipped.
With a shriek, Gao Yang flailed his arms and fell backward, fortunately breaking his fall with his left hand on the ground; unfortunately, his fall was too swift, supported only by his left hand.
After a loud thud, Gao Yang felt dazed and in pain, his left wrist especially ached terribly.
Lying on the ground, Gao Yang shook his head, only to find his vision filled with stars and he couldn’t see clearly.
Then, he heard Yelena scream.
Gao Yang struggled to lift his head, realizing he could only see a blurry figure of Yelena in front of him, and thought bitterly, “Damn, this is just my luck!”
Yelena hopped out of the bathtub, came to Gao Yang’s side, and with a sobbing tone said, “Gao, your head is bleeding, how do you feel?”
Gao Yang, feeling distressed, said, “My head’s a bit dizzy, help me up.”
Yelena wasn’t the type to just scream in situations like this.
Seeing the blood from the back of Gao Yang’s head, though frantic, she didn’t lose her sense of reason.
Almost crying, she urgently asked, “Look, how many fingers am I holding up?”
Gao Yang, only seeing shadows before him, replied with a bitter laugh, “I can’t see clearly.”
Yelena became even more anxious and after lightly pressing on him, said urgently, “You mustn’t move around in your condition, please don’t move, I’m going to call a doctor!”
Yelena ran to the hotel’s fixed phone and after getting through to the front desk, urgently said, “My boyfriend has fallen in the bathroom, he’s bleeding a lot from his head and his vision is blurred.
Please send a doctor immediately!”
After hurriedly making the call, Yelena ran back to Gao Yang’s side and in as gentle a voice as she could muster, said, “Darling, how are you feeling?”
Gao Yang, aware that he shouldn’t move to avoid further injury, chuckled bitterly and said helplessly, “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine, and don’t tell anyone about this, especially don’t call your dad or anyone else.”
Gao Yang was disgusted with himself.
After surviving so many tough situations, to possibly have a concussion from a fall in the bathroom was too embarrassing to admit.
As he spoke, Gao Yang also felt nauseous, which further confirmed the likelihood of a mild concussion.
Fortunately, Gao Yang hadn’t lost his wits.
Although he couldn’t see clearly, he urgently said, “Don’t panic, I’m okay, go get dressed.”
Only then did Yelena realize, and frantically she began to dress.
Just as she had managed to put on her clothes, there was a knock at the door.
The hotel had its own doctor who arrived promptly, and five people crowded into the bathroom with Yelena after she opened the door.
A female doctor knelt beside Gao Yang, checked his eyelids, and after asking about how he fell and what he was feeling, the hotel doctor immediately said, “He must undergo a comprehensive examination, fit him with a cervical collar, and take him to the hospital.”
Meanwhile, someone kneeling by Gao Yang expressed disbelief, “Our hotel’s bathroom floors are slip-resistant, how could it be this severe?
Oh, there’s shower gel spilled here, no wonder.”
On the verge of tears, and only in his swim trunks, Gao Yang was lifted onto a stretcher and shouted, “Dear, bring my phone and clothes.”
After instructing Yelena, four people carried Gao Yang to the ambulance, and upon arriving, the paramedic in the ambulance asked, “What’s the situation?”
“He fell in the bathroom, has a head injury, shows symptoms of a concussion, and his left hand might be fractured.”
Listening to the conversation between two doctors, Gao Yang felt like he was done for.
After their brief exchange, the ambulance doors closed, and it sped off, sirens blaring all the way.
Gao Yang could only lament his unfortunate luck, feeling that his luck had burst in Colombia and had not been great since.
While his luck wasn’t terrible, everything he had done seemed futile, but it wasn’t a total disaster either.
The bad fortune he had before couldn’t be considered terrible, but lately, it was a different story.
First, it seemed he had been busy doing nothing in the operation to rescue Grand Ivan, and nearly got dragged into trouble himself.
Then in New York, he nearly met life-or-death with Dusselyev, and today was just outrageous, ending up with a concussion from a fall in the bathroom.
Gao Yang was genuinely frustrated.
During this time, those around him seemed to fare well, even benefiting like Uriyangko and Grand Ivan during the rescue, or Glolov and Morgan when getting rid of Dusselyev.
Yet, he got no benefits and ended up with a concussion.
The more he thought about it, the more embarrassed and furious he felt.
Gao Yang covered his face with his hand, but then cursed bitterly when he felt a sharp pain in his left wrist, “F**k, F**k, F**k!”
After cursing three times, the paramedic sitting next to Gao Yang asked indifferently, “What’s wrong?
Does it hurt a lot?”
Gao Yang sighed, “Doctor, looking at my condition, you should know I’m definitely not feeling comfortable, but what bothers me most is how I feel inside.”
“Wow, I totally understand how you feel, but, you know, every year many people are brought to the hospital for falling in the bathroom, and at least a dozen die from it.
Although most of them are elderly, it’s not uncommon among young people, and the death rate is quite high, so you’re actually not doing too bad.”
Gao Yang forced a smile, “Doctor, your consolation is really touching.”
“Well, you know, you’re just unlucky, so you shouldn’t feel embarrassed or anything, at least you were wearing swim trunks.
You should know that most people who are brought here for bathroom falls are naked.
Like I said, you’re not in too bad of a condition.
Now, unless you have something critical to tell me, you’d better stop talking.”
Gao Yang murmured to himself, “Alright, there’s nothing really embarrassing, I’m just unlucky, although I am a…
um, I better keep my mouth shut.”
Gao Yang was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, with Yelena and hotel staff following closely behind the ambulance into the hospital.
After quickly stopping the bleeding on Gao Yang’s head, he was taken for imaging to ensure his brain and cervical spine were fine, and then his wrist was examined.
In the end, the hospital concluded Gao Yang had suffered a mild concussion and a bruised left wrist.
Concussion injuries are generally considered mild if they are not fatal, so Gao Yang wouldn’t be able to go back to the hotel and had to stay in the hospital for observation.
When Gao Yang was moved into the observation ward, he could already see clearly, though he occasionally felt nauseous, there wasn’t anything too serious.
However, any movement of his left wrist was painful, which frustrated Gao Yang, as he was worried it might affect his ability to shoot—a potential serious problem.
Having been shifted to the observation ward and knowing Gao Yang’s condition wasn’t too serious, Yelena finally relaxed, but then she began to tear up.
More frustrated than Gao Yang was the hotel manager; Gao Yang and his party were scheduled to leave the next day, but this incident had occurred.
Hotels are, of course, responsible for injuries happening on their property.
After Gao Yang was settled, the client manager said regretfully, “Sir, are you able to talk now?”
“Yes, go ahead,” Gao Yang replied.
“We are very sorry about your unfortunate fall, and all our staff send their regards.
From a responsible standpoint for our guests, we will take care of your medical expenses.
Additionally, we will refund your room charges.
Does this resolution work for you?”
The manager’s attitude was good, but the loss was just that.
If Gao Yang had decided to take advantage and sue the hotel, the manager would probably be in tears.
However, Gao Yang wasn’t one to be unreasonably demanding; they had waived thousands of dollars in fees over three days, so this issue could be dropped.
Gao Yang waved his hand, “Thank you, it’s not your fault.
Let’s just handle it this way.
We have to leave tomorrow, so firstly, I’ll return to the hotel to pick up our luggage.
Everything can be concluded when we leave.
There’s no need to delay your time any further, you can go now.”
The hotel manager, relieved as if granted a royal pardon, knew that if Gao Yang had demanded compensation, whether the hotel won or lost the ensuing lawsuit, the damage to its reputation couldn’t be offset by a few days of room and medical expenses.
After the joyful hotel manager left, Gao Yang sighed deeply again, looked at the worried Yelena, and smiled bitterly, “My love, no need to look like it’s the end of the world.
I’m just a bit unlucky.”
While talking to Yelena, Gao Yang suddenly felt a pang of heart palpitations.
It was a mysterious flutter, as if something bad was about to happen.
Although the feeling passed quickly, considering the recent events, Gao Yang felt very uneasy, so he whispered, “My love, hand me the phone, I need to make a few calls to check things out.” (To be continued.
