Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 681 - 681 Six Hundred Seventy-Three Only Need One Super Assassin
681: Chapter Six Hundred Seventy-Three: Only Need One Super Assassin 681: Chapter Six Hundred Seventy-Three: Only Need One Super Assassin Nina Jansen had a radio.
During her free moments at work, she could listen to music, and she often tuned into a local Cape Town music station.
Medusa might not have been right beside the radio; the bug on her transmitted sounds continuously, but they were merely noises of movement.
Hence, transmitting the code signal was an issue of when Medusa would hear it, which is why the code signal had to be kept running.
While listening to the music on the radio, Gao Yang suddenly said, “I like Metallic, and I also like ‘Fade to Black,’ but, ‘fading to black,’ this song’s meaning is rather ominous.”
Ryan shrugged and said, “No choice, Medusa likes this song.”
After nearly seven minutes of the song, there was still no response from Medusa, only the sound of her cleaning and moving about.
However, there was no sound of the radio on her end.
“What should be the next song?”
After ‘Fade to Black’ finished, Gao Yang casually asked, to which Ryan solemnly replied, “The one I like, by Guns N’ Roses, ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.'”
As the radio host began speaking in code, another old song started playing.
At that moment, Gao Yang chuckled bitterly and said, “Another song I like.
But why do you guys have to pick such unlucky songs as the contact signal?”
Ryan made a face but didn’t respond to Gao Yang; he just nodded his head to the rhythm of the song.
Another song ended, and there was still no movement from Medusa.
Uriyangko, growing somewhat impatient, glanced at his watch and said, “It’s been fifteen minutes, should we think of another way?”
Ryan whispered, “No, the surveillance inside the Consulate General must be very strict right now.
We can only use this public channel for communication.
If the CIA detects an electronic signal, there might be an accident.
Let’s wait.
Sometimes you can’t rush; the more you rush, the more likely accidents will happen.”
The third song was halfway through, a song Gao had never heard before.
While he was reluctantly appreciating a song he was unfamiliar with, suddenly, he heard the same song through his earpiece.
“She turned on the radio!”
Gao Yang shouted, and by then, Ryan also knew that Medusa had turned on the radio.
After waiting mere seconds, they heard Medusa say, “Nice song, I like it a lot, I hope I like the next one just as much.”
Ryan shouted, “She got the signal, but she doesn’t know the severity of the situation yet.
Give the next broadcast words to the radio station, tell Medusa, it’s the highest evacuation level!”
Uriyangko immediately made a phone call, and then the group waited, breathlessly attentive to what the radio host would say next.
The host didn’t miss a single word, and Gao Yang could hear the same sounds coming from Medusa’s side.
Soon after, Medusa whispered, “Highest level, return as soon as possible without exposing.”
Gao Yang exhaled and said, “She knows now.
What’s next for us, wait, or coordinate with Medusa?”
Ryan, with a confident smile, replied, “She has a way to leave without exposing herself.
We’ll just wait.
If she needs coordination, she’ll let us know.”
After waiting another ten minutes, Medusa ran out of the Consulate General.
She hopped into a taxi which then started heading in Gao Yang and his team’s direction.
Uriyangko drove and followed, waiting to pick up Medusa before immediately heading back to base.
“My facial expression was a bit stiff, and I had to cry, almost ruining my makeup, but I think I wasn’t exposed.
So, what happened?”
After Medusa spoke in a hurried tone, Ryan immediately started to play the recorded eavesdropping content.
After Medusa listened to it, he said softly, “Our plan must change now, Dr.
Bernard is a leverage point we can exploit.”
“CIA Special Activities Division.
They don’t have aggressive equipment.
I saw their gear, just rifles and submachine guns, plus maybe some grenades.
I believe these people aren’t an aggressive force, but are adept at VIP protection and excel in secret operations with light weaponry, just like what they plan to do to Grand Ivan.”
After Medusa quickly said those words, she fell silent for a moment, then continued, “Still, they’re formidable opponents, but not invulnerable.
I think the operatives code-named SEALs are more skilled in secret operations than fighting hard battles like real SEALs.”
Ryan laughed and said, “That seems like good news for our operators here.”
Gao Yang didn’t think it was good news.
Even if these fake SEALs weren’t as proficient in hard combat as real SEALs, that was just because of the different missions they were tasked with, which just resulted in different equipment choices.
Therefore, they weren’t suitable for hard fighting, but this didn’t mean the CIA Special Activities Division operators couldn’t fight tough battles.
The van returned to the base.
When Gao Yang and his crew entered, they saw Ivan with an anxious expression on his face.
As soon as he saw them, he said immediately, “One piece of good news and one bad news.
The vice president keeps applying pressure, so the South African Reconnaissance Assault Team is pulling out, today.”
Uriyangko sighed and said, “That counts as good news.
So, what’s the bad news?”
Ivan said with difficulty, “The vice president’s side is only giving us twenty-four hours.
By tomorrow, if we haven’t rescued Grand Ivan or if he isn’t dead, they will take matters into their own hands.
I don’t know their precise plan, but I think they won’t mind staging a terrorist attack, blowing up both Grand Ivan and the Americans, then pinning it on us.”
“F**k, these damn politicians.
It seems the president and the vice president have come to an agreement, making concessions to each other?”
Uriyangko was very angry, while Ivan just silently nodded and said, “That appears to be the case.”
Ryan shrugged and said, “That’s normal, all too normal.
I’m not surprised by this outcome at all.
Now, all we need to consider is how to speed up our process.”
Ivan slowly said, “If you don’t have any better suggestions, we’ll storm in.
Once the South African forces withdraw and the defense at the Consulate General weakens, we’ll attack.”
After thinking for a while, Ryan said, “That would mean Grand Ivan dies.”
Ivan sighed and replied, “I have no other way.”
After pondering for a moment, Ryan said, “Based on the intelligence we have and our situation, a frontal assault seems to be the only option.
However, the method of assault can vary.
It’s possible, I mean, it’s possible for Grand Ivan to survive.”
Ivan immediately looked at Ryan and said, “Tell me!”
Ryan spread his hands, somewhat helplessly and said, “Medusa and I can do everything except for taking the final action.
We are just support personnel, not the ones who deal the final blow.
Unfortunately, neither Medusa nor I have the capacity to decide the outcome.
So, I need a top-level assassin, that’s all.” (To be continued.
