675: Chapter 667: Information, Still Information.
Gao Yang had slept for two hours when Uriyangko woke him up.
Although he hadn’t slept for long, the sense of exhaustion from the long flight had diminished considerably, and he felt much better.
Gao Yang quickly washed his face and after returning to the living room alone, Uriyangko immediately whispered to him, “Gao, we’ve figured it out, Grand Ivan has been taken to the United States Consulate General.”
Gao Yang felt a headache coming on, the United States Consulate General was the last name he wanted to hear.
The United States Embassy abroad had been bombed numerous times, and Gao Yang really didn’t mind adding another attack to the record.
However, the problem was that those were the deeds of terrorists, and now he was living in America.
“Give me the details.”
Gao Yang looked troubled while Uriyangko also had a look of frustration and said, “Our investigation indicates that four vehicles left the hospital, took a lot of detours, but ended up at the United States Cape Town Consulate General.
And, we’ve discovered from the Cape Town University Affiliated Hospital that some of their medical equipment was also taken into the consulate.”
Ivan frowned and said, “This is news we just received.”
Gao Yang let out a breath and said, “Alright, do we know what’s going on inside the consulate?”
“We don’t know anything at all; the security at the United States Consulate General is extremely tight.
Starting from yesterday, they’ve prohibited anyone from entering or leaving.
If our people could get in or contact someone, we wouldn’t be getting this information just now.”
“What do you plan to do?
Assault the United States Consulate General?”
After exchanging glances with Ivan, Sergei nodded and said in a low voice, “Yes, if there’s no other way, attacking the consulate is our last resort.”
Uriyangko immediately added, “But not yet; we know nothing about the other side.
We don’t even know if Grand Ivan is really inside, or whether he is alive or dead.
So, we need to gather further intelligence before we can make a decision.”
Gao Yang said, “So, what can I do now?”
Ivan, looking a bit embarrassed, said, “If it comes down to having to assault, as a last measure, you guys will have to be the main force.
So, I think you might want to go check out the situation on site now.”
Gao Yang nodded and said, “That’s a good idea, seeing things firsthand never hurts.
But it’s a little over three in the morning now and getting too close to the consulate might raise suspicion.
However, we can check out the terrain around the consulate.
Let’s go now.”
Gao Yang, Uriyangko, and Sergei, the three of them drove to the United States Consulate General.
They wouldn’t get too close, but they circled the area near the consulate several times.
The reconnaissance was not promising; sandbags and barbed wire now surrounded the entrance of the consulate, and vehicle speed bumps were set up far from the entrance.
Most importantly, despite it being late in the night, there were still more than thirty fully-armed Special Forces soldiers on guard outside the consulate, and there were definitely even more people inside, out of view.
After leaving the consulate, Uriyangko was fuming because, from what they observed, the chances of successfully extracting Grand Ivan by force were very slim.
When they returned to their hideout, Uriyangko shook his head at an expectant Ivan and said, “The chances are slim, we can pretty much rule out an assault.”
Gao Yang also sighed.
The consulate was guarded by South African Special Forces, not just any fodder for their guns.
If they wanted to break the blockade and storm in, casualties were unavoidable.
The trouble was that even if they could get inside, it wouldn’t happen quickly and Grand Ivan would certainly not be without close guards.
If things turned sour, Grand Ivan would surely be killed, rather than waiting to be rescued by them.
If Ivan and Uriyangko simply didn’t want Grand Ivan to be interrogated or rather they wanted him dead so he would shut up forever, things would be much simpler.
If Grand Ivan could be rescued alive that would be great, and dead wouldn’t matter.
But the problem was that Ivan and his group were aiming to rescue Grand Ivan not to silence him but to keep him alive, which complicated things significantly.
The group of them had no good solutions.
Sitting on the couch, they just looked at each other blankly until after a long time Ivan sighed and said, “No matter what, we cannot let Grand Ivan be taken to America.
Anyway, let’s prepare for an assault.”
Uriyangko spoke with a stern voice: “Grand Ivan won’t stay in the consulate forever.
They will have to transfer him at some point.
Maybe when they move him, that will be our chance.
Attacking the convoy might be simpler than storming the consulate.”
Ivan nodded and said, “We still lack intelligence; it would be better if we knew more.
Gao, contact Justin again, he’s a pro.
Maybe he will have some surprising information for us.”
Gao Yang immediately took out his phone, put it on speaker mode, and dialed Justin.
Once Justin answered, Gao Yang said without preamble, “This is Ram, got any new intelligence on Grand Ivan?”
“No, my people haven’t arrived yet, and I can’t get any more information for now.
Listen, if you have any intelligence, you should tell me right away.
With the information you provide, I can avoid some detours and then give you back more accurate and valuable intelligence in return.”
Gao Yang glanced at Ivan, who nodded and whispered, “Give it to him.”
“Alright, buddy, we now know that Grand Ivan is most likely inside the United States Consulate General.
Yesterday, someone was taken to the Cape Town University Affiliated Hospital and, after receiving treatment for the heart, that person and the entire medical staff involved were secretly moved into the United States Consulate General.
We are very certain that person is Grand Ivan.”
“Ah, buddy, so it was the Americans, huh?
This just got really tricky.
Alright, now I know where to start.
Good news for you, if it’s related to South Africa, my sources are not too extensive, but I have targeted contacts for American matters, which means I can get valuable intelligence easier.
So wait for a bit, I might soon tell you what you want to know.”
After the call ended, it took only half an hour for Justin to call Gao Yang back, excitedly saying, “Hey, Ram, I got some intelligence.
It’s not particularly valuable to me, but for you, it might be of great use.
I have the layout of the United States Consulate General, and I know the origin and numbers of their security personnel.
Do you need it?”
Gao Yang immediately said, “Yes, of course I need it, send it all to me right away.” (To be continued.
