Mercenary’s War
Chapter 620 - 620 613 Change of Personnel

620: Chapter 613: Change of Personnel 620: Chapter 613: Change of Personnel In the entire Satan Mercenaries, Frey was the only person who studied how to correct the wind drift of rockets.

When Frey joined the Satan Mercenary Corps, he started from scratch, initially serving as Glolov’s backup shooter and later, after being arranged to learn how to use the Rocket Launcher, became a dedicated rocket launcher shooter, becoming indispensable to the Mercenary Group.

His forte was grenades and rocket launchers—no one could match Frey’s skill with grenades due to his talent, no need for further words, but using the rocket launcher required arduous practice.

Launching a rocket launcher and launching it accurately were almost entirely different matters.

Gao Yang and the rest could launch a rocket launcher, but once there was wind or distance became a factor, their shots were purely guesswork, whereas it wasn’t the same with Frey—who could strike precisely with the rocket launcher regardless of wind or distance.

There’s a saying that the better one’s gunmanship, the less accurate they are with a rocket launcher, though this isn’t always the case.

Many skilled with firearms could also accurately fire rocket launchers, but without specialized and prolonged practice with rocket launchers, the more accurate their shooting, the more challenging it would be to aim with the launcher.

The reason was that the wind drift of bullets and the RPG’s rocket wind drift were completely opposite.

For example, if Gao Yang wanted to hit a target 500 meters south and the wind was coming from the west, he would need to aim the muzzle westward.

The bullet, influenced by the wind, would drift eastward a bit before striking the target precisely—this was the simplest method to adjust for wind drift when using a firearm.

But RPG rockets were different.

The RPG-7 used a variety of rocket types with a wind drift type called “into-the-wind drift,” and this kind of wind drift was particularly tricky, seemingly existing just to torment the shooter.

Simply put, into-the-wind drift means the rocket drifts in the direction from which the wind comes, completely opposite to the bullet’s wind drift.

Most RPG-7 rockets are designed heavier in the front and lighter in the back, bigger in the front and smaller in the back, and equipped with stabilizing fins.

Affected by the airflow, this results in a reverse yaw.

For example, if the wind comes from the west, you shouldn’t aim west but a bit east.

This is because the lateral wind’s point of impact does not coincide with the rocket’s center of mass, causing a yaw torque that affects the trajectory more than the wind itself does, ultimately resulting in the rocket drifting west if there’s a west wind and east if there’s an east wind when firing south.

Calculating the wind drift value for RPGs is extremely complex; for anyone, hitting targets accurately with an RPG at close range is feasible, but at long distances and under strong wind conditions, calculating wind drift is pure torture, and most would give up on precise shooting and settle for where the rockets landed.

Most people think RPGs have unpredictable trajectories; they might be accurate at around a hundred or so meters, but beyond that, it’s all down to luck.

However, if aimed properly and with wind drift adjusted, an RPG can be very precise.

It’s just that there are many types of rockets for RPGs, each with different sizes and consequently different trajectories, requiring intense effort to master their respective trajectories.

It was Frey who could shoot rockets through small holes.

If the distance were shorter, he’d simply forgo the rocket launcher and greet with a grenade instead.

After striking two bunkers effortlessly, Eileen and Rafael were utterly astonished, as only experts could recognize the difficulty in what Frey accomplished.

Taking up the third rocket launcher and resting it on his shoulder, Gao Yang shouted loudly, “Be extra careful this time, the enemy has definitely pinpointed your launch position, be absolutely careful!”

The potential launch sites for Frey were restricted to either side of a ruined building.

With two bunkers already destroyed, the remaining bunkers would surely heighten their vigilance and strive to prevent Frey from continuing to launch rockets, significantly increasing the danger for Frey.

After nodding to everyone, Gao hung the shotgun over his chest, grabbed his rifle, took a deep breath, and yelled, “Suppressing fire!”

For Gao, a shotgun was handy at close range and a rifle was convenient for long range; though switching between them was a hassle, he had to use the rifle for accurate shooting to cover Frey.

Li Jin moved away from the corner first, followed by Gao.

They both started suppressing the remaining bunkers with fire, and once they opened fire, Frey ran out from behind the house.

Due to the angle, Frey had to move quite far from the house to have a sufficient angle to shoot the rocket into a selected firing hole.

After sprinting about ten meters, Frey knelt on one knee, but just as he was about to launch the rocket, a bullet struck him.

Staggering, he felt a sharp pain in his lower abdomen and fell forward, after which the rocket shot out toward the ground.

The rocket scraped along the ground for several dozen meters and exploded after hitting something, fortunately not exploding right in front of Frey, but he was nonetheless rendered immobile on the ground.

An accident had ultimately occurred, and Gao was greatly alarmed, but his and Li Jin’s primary task at that moment was to suppress the enemy and prevent them from continuing to shoot at Frey.

Gao aimed his gun at a firing hole from which bullets were being fired, shot once, and after the fiery hole went quiet, he turned to look at Frey.

As Gao turned, he saw Rafael running out.

Bullets landed around Rafael’s feet as he sprinted, hunched over.

Just as he was about to reach Frey, he stumbled, twisted, and fell to the ground.

Gao raised his gun again and fired twice continuously, taking out the men behind two firing holes.

The enemies were also ruthless, knowing that they couldn’t let Frey launch another rocket, so despite facing intense firepower suppression, they still kept firing.

In the heat of battle, everyone had their roles.

Rather than dragging Frey back, Gao Yang decided to stay in place and use precise gunmanship to eliminate those threatening Frey.

But now Rafael was down too, and the closest to Frey and Rafael were him and Li Jinfang.

Li Jinfang could no longer maintain fire suppression on the enemy.

Every second Frey and Rafael remained exposed under enemy fire, the danger increased substantially.

“I’ll go!”

Li Jinfang shouted and then turned to run, but just as he moved, he saw Rafael getting up.

Rafael was dragging Frey by one leg, beginning to run back.

They did whatever was quickest and most convenient.

When Rafael stood up, Li Jinfang also ran over, and each grabbing one of Frey’s legs, they pulled him to the safety behind the wall.

As Li Jinfang went to rescue Frey, Eileen immediately took his place.

At that moment, Bruce also rushed forward, and after Li Jinfang and Rafael had dragged Frey to a safe area, they immediately turned him over.

Only after getting Frey back to a safe area did Gao Yang and Eileen shrink back behind the wall, then Gao Yang urgently said, “How is it!

How is it!

Frey!

Talk!”

After turning Frey over so he was facing up, Frey gasped for air and said, “F**k, today is just bad luck; I should be okay, hopefully okay.

I don’t want to be lying in a bed for another month.”

Frey was indeed just unlucky today, having been hit by at least two bullets this time, plus one he got hit with at the start.

He had been shot three times today, twice in different places on the same day—such a small probability and yet it happened to him, truly unlucky.

“Don’t talk!”

After cutting Frey off, Bruce pressed hard on the bullet wounds and then breathed a sigh of relief, “It’s okay, the bone isn’t broken, 7.62 mm intermediate bullets, shot from a machine gun, no problem.”

Gao Yang also sighed in relief, “Well, not too unlucky, actually quite lucky.”

The heavy-duty bulletproof vests worn by Gao Yang’s team provided good protection against 7.62 mm intermediate bullets.

Even at close range, the vests could stop the bullets, though the impact area would still be painfully bruised.

If hit by a full-powered 7.62 mm bullet at close range, it would be uncertain if the vest could stop it.

All in all, though, they were pretty lucky.

Frey clutched his stomach, drenched in sweat, “My stomach hurts so much.”

Bruce frowned, “It hit your stomach; it’s definitely going to hurt, particularly since it’s very close to where you were shot last time.

Your organs might have taken a serious hit.

You need to rest while I check if there’s any problem.”

After Bruce finished speaking, he turned to Rafael, “Let me take a look at you.”

Rafael lifted his arm, a bullet embedded in the back side of his bulletproof vest near his armpit.

He laughed after inspecting it himself, “Bad luck, but the vest is good.

It just hurt for a moment, should be no problems.”

Bruce ignored Rafael’s comment, checked him over, then nodded, “Indeed no issue, okay, put the vest back on properly.”

Frey lay on the ground.

When his pain slightly subsided, he raised his hand toward Rafael, “Hey, Fork, thanks.”

Rafael chuckled, “Buddy, it’s nothing worth thanking for.”

Indeed, there was nothing to thank for; if it were someone else, Frey would definitely not have thanked him.

Saving each other as comrades was quite normal.

It was just because Rafael was a newcomer and not very well known to everyone that Frey voiced his thanks.

After giving thanks, Frey tried to sit up, but as soon as he exerted himself, he immediately fell back, his face covered in cold sweat.

Seeing Frey’s condition, Bruce immediately said, “Your organs might have been impacted too severely, especially since the area where you were hit was just wounded before.

Don’t move; I need to make sure your organs are okay first.”

Frey shook his head, “No way, I need to take out the remaining two fortifications, let’s talk after I finish that task.”

Rafael smiled, “Don’t worry, leave the rest to me.”
