Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 511 - 511 507 Mirage
511: Chapter 507 Mirage 511: Chapter 507 Mirage It was eleven o’clock, and no one attacked.
At eleven-thirty, the second supply drop arrived, and still, no one attacked.
Gao Yang looked at his watch, it was now noon and the promised attack had yet to materialize.
For the first time, Gao Yang found himself growing anxious waiting for an enemy assault.
There was no need to ask, intelligence would naturally be delivered.
The reason for the enemy’s delay in attacking was simple: their assembly was slower than expected, and moreover, the soldiers needed to have their meal before they could perform a reconnaissance in force.
Since no one had attacked, Gao Yang and his men also had time to eat.
They warmed up the leftovers from the morning.
They still took turns eating, but this lunch was not part of the original plan and felt like an unexpected bonus.
At one o’clock, the troops preparing for a reconnaissance in force finally got moving.
Then, after another hour of anxious waiting, the recon force reached the location where vehicles had been discarded.
God knows when they would find the camp if they followed the trail.
By three o’clock, the dawdling troops still hadn’t arrived.
Even Gao, who did not need to fight, was getting impatient.
Uriyangko, who had been constantly on the phone due to the enemy changing plans, also grew tired of making calls.
The Intelligence Officer from the Angel Mercenary Corps couldn’t be bothered to pass on the reconnaissance reports to Gao Yang and his men anymore.
The reconnaissance force was extremely cautious, overly so, and if you had to sum it up in one word, it would be “delay”.
The intentions of the reconnaissance force were not hard to guess.
They were simply hoping by the time they dragged themselves to the location, the targets they sought would have already evacuated.
This would make them safer—that was all.
Finally, Gao Yang received another phone call, but this time it wasn’t about the reconnaissance force.
It was that the anti-aircraft missiles were finally going to be delivered.
After hanging up, Gao Yang adjusted the frequency on his radio to contact the aircraft.
However, before he received any communication from the plane, he heard a loud explosion, followed by fierce gunfire.
The directional mines had detonated.
The reconnaissance force had finally engaged with the outer defense line of the Angel Mercenary Corps.
After listening to the radio for a moment, Nate let out a long breath and said to Gao Yang, “The enemy has arrived.
The mines were triggered by the enemy, not detonated by us.”
Although it was time to fight, Gao Yang actually felt a sense of relief.
Far from being tense, he had a relaxed sensation that what was meant to happen had finally come.
Gao Yang also took a deep breath and said, “They’ve finally come.
However, I think the reconnaissance force will probably retreat right away and then send in the main force.”
Nate didn’t reply.
After listening intently to the chatter in his earpiece, he spread his hands in an expression of helplessness and said, “You’re right.
They’ve retreated.
They fired a few shots into the jungle and then pulled back.”
With a sense of helplessness, Gao Yang said, “In that case, we’ll have to wait again.
F**k, how long do you think it will take for their main force to arrive?”
Nate shook his head and replied, “Hard to say.
It depends on how strong the combat will of the incoming troops is.
Some units only fire into the air when engaging drug traffickers while others can put up a real fight.
But what kind of unit is coming at us, I just don’t know.”
Just then, someone in Gao Yang’s earpiece said, “This is Demon, respond if you receive, over.”
“This is Ram, over.”
“We are about to reach the drop zone.
Please send out the guiding signal, over.”
Gao Yang waved at Nate and said, “The plane’s here.
Signal them.”
After Nate notified the signal team on the radio, soon the person in contact with Gao Yang on the plane said, “Guiding signal identified.
No suitable drop zone found.
Starting forced drop.
Additionally, please advise if it is necessary for personnel to parachute forcibly.”
Uriyangko could only spare two men for Gao Yang, and those two had already come once during the second supply drop.
However, since no drop zone had been established, after contacting Gao Yang, they chose not to parachute down forcefully and returned with the plane instead.
With only two men, Gao Yang felt their presence or absence wouldn’t make much of a difference, so he said gravely, “Forget it, no need for a forced parachute.
The terrain isn’t suitable.
Have them return, over.”
Before he finished speaking, parachutes started drifting down from the sky.
The person in contact with Gao Yang then said, “Demon understands, personnel returning.
Commencing supply drop now, with a total of fifteen parachutes.
Each set contains four anti-aircraft missiles.
Please ensure they are all accounted for, over.”
As they spoke, four or five parachutes had already deployed across the sky.
As it was a low-altitude drop, the parachutes would reach the ground in a minute.
Soon, underneath the circling aircraft, more than a dozen parachutes bobbed down.
The first parachutes to be released had already snagged on the trees, while most of the parachutes were still in the air.
“I almost forgot the coffee you asked for.
Ok, the last item has been dropped.
Please be ready to receive.
Goodbye, and good luck.”
Just as Gao Yang was looking up, watching the parachutes drift down from the sky, he heard a whistling sound.
It didn’t come from the circling transport plane, but rather like a buzz that swept over from above.
Gao Yang and Nate’s faces drastically changed as they quickly turned their heads, but saw nothing.
At that moment, however, someone urgently cried out through Gao Yang’s headphones, “A plane!
Fighter jet!
A jet fighter!”
His view obstructed by the treetops, Gao Yang didn’t see a thing, but he knew a jet fighter had just streaked over their heads.
The sound was too distinct.
Nothing but a jet could make that kind of howling noise.
“Mirage!
It just flew over us, F**k, it’s coming back again!”
Because of the angle, Gao Yang couldn’t see the transport plane that was dropping supplies nor the Mirage fighter jet, but he soon saw a parachute suddenly drop rapidly, followed by the sound of machine guns.
Then, once more, he heard the roar of the jet as it swooped overhead.
“We have to pull out, it’s Colombia’s Mirage 5, it’s firing at the parachutes.”
The person on the plane in communication with Gao Yang spoke hurriedly before attempting to leave, but by then, the fighter jet had turned around and was flying back, passing in front of the transport plane.
“That’s my coffee, it hit my coffee, damn it, that Mirage shot down my coffee!
It actually shot down my coffee!”
Gao Yang turned and saw Nate with widened eyes, his face full of anger, repeating about his coffee.
Gao Yang had never seen Nate angry or impatient.
He had only seen Nate truly happy once, and that was when he sincerely smiled upon learning that coffee would be delivered.
Although Nate usually had a smile on his face, that wasn’t happiness.
This time, Gao Yang finally saw what Nate looked like when he got angry.
Nate was completely frozen, staring motionlessly up at the sky.
Just then, the Mirage 5 came back, and opened fire with its cannons once again, soon, Gao Yang heard someone frantically shouting through his headset: “The Mirage is showing us its belly, it wants to force us down, it’s warning shot, damn it, we won’t be able to escape!”
Gao Yang remembered Uriyangko mentioning that he’d receive intelligence if there were any fighter jets coming, but before this unexpected appearance of the Mirage 5, he hadn’t received any information.
Gao Yang quickly said over the intercom, “Buddy, we can’t help you, get out of there, they can’t confirm your identity, the Mirage won’t dare to fire at you, find a way to shake them off, good luck.”
No sooner had Gao Yang finished speaking than he heard Nate beside him say with hatred, “Shoot down that damn Mirage, shoot it down for me!”
Gao Yang turned and saw Nate’s mouth twitching and his face filled with a murderous look,
Boom!
Two loud explosions rang out as two huge clouds of smoke rose from where the drop zone was supposed to be established.
This was the Mirage dropping bombs, targeting the area densest with parachutes.
Enraged, Nate looked up to the sky, his head twisting and turning to locate the plane.
When he realized he couldn’t see the plane due to the tree canopy, Nate roared, “Can Opener, clear the area, grab the missile, take down that damn plane, shoot that son of a bitch pilot down for me!”
At Nate’s command, a series of loud booming sounds followed.
The explosives, which had been strategically placed, now detonated, severing several large trees at their roots.
As the trees fell with a thunderous crash to the ground, a large clearing was suddenly formed in the jungle.
Although the foliage of the fallen trees still covered a large part, the visibility improved drastically.
Nate ran toward the newly cleared area, and after a moment’s hesitation, Gao Yang chased after him, yelling, “Calm down!”
The spot where Gao Yang and Nate stood was quite far from the planned drop zone, over two hundred meters, but Nate reached the new clearing in a very short time.
Parachutes that had been hanging from the trees fell to the ground with the toppled trees, but most of the boxes underneath the parachutes remained intact.
However, without inspection, there was no way of knowing if the missiles inside the boxes were damaged.
Nate rushed to a fallen tree, pulled out a knife, and after cutting the straps off an anti-aircraft missile storage box, he dragged it over, undid the clasps on the box, lifted the lid, and revealed a SA-7 anti-aircraft missile.
With a better line of sight after clearing the site, Gao Yang looked up and saw a plane flying back.
He then noticed a flash of fire from the plane.
Gao Yang dived forward, bellowing, “Bomb, take cover!”
Nate glanced upwards, but had no intention of lying down.
He reached into the box, grabbed the anti-aircraft missile, put it on his shoulder, flipped the missile’s switches, and aimed it straight at the oncoming Mirage 5.
The Mirage 5 hadn’t dropped a bomb but fired several rockets in a rapid succession.
Amidst the continuous blasts, Nate clenched his teeth, pursed his lips, and kept the missile’s launch tube trained on the aircraft above.
