The radio chatter didn’t last long, and with reports of targets being cleared one after another, soon, the radio fell silent again.

Then Nate said over the radio, “Camp is now clear.

Reinforcements have departed.

Over.”

Having finally received Nate’s notification, Gao Yang immediately said, “The situation is urgent, we can’t wait for the reinforcements.

We will send the critically wounded on our own.

Please prepare an operating room as quickly as possible.”

To wait for the reinforcements to come back and take the wounded would take at least another hour, so Gao Yang decided to send Frey over first.

With several critically wounded, either Andy He or Bruce had to stay behind, and at this moment, there was no choice left.

Gao Yang immediately said to Andy He, “Dr.

He, please accompany Little Fly to the camp first.

I’m counting on you.”

Andy He himself shouldered the needed medications and equipment, and with Ava and two of the guards left by the Angel Mercenary Corps, they lifted the makeshift stretcher and started to move Frey towards the camp.

Gao Yang didn’t accompany them to send Frey off because there were only four people left to stand guard.

After splitting two more to send Frey, they were seriously short-handed.

Although Gao only had one usable arm, he could still serve as a sentry.

Gao Yang alone, with a night vision device, stood watch on the trail.

Although the possibility of an enemy attack was small, if someone did come and wasn’t discovered in time, it would be disastrous.

After about an hour, the reinforcements sent by Nate finally arrived.

The makeshift stretchers were ready long before.

Over twenty people secured the wounded to the stretchers and then proceeded to the now-captured camp.

It was only after receiving notification from Jinfang, who had returned to provide support, that Gao Yang left his sentry post.

All the others had already left before, and only Jinfang stayed behind.

As soon as he saw Gao Yang, Jinfang took two steps forward and said, “Brother Yang, how are you?

Let me give you some support.”

Gao Yang shook his head and said, “No need, I’m not at the point where I can’t move.”

There was no expression on Jinfang’s face, but Gao Yang, who knew him well, understood that no expression meant that Jinfang had something on his mind.

“What happened just now?”

Jinfang’s face looked somewhat saddened.

He said, “Nothing much.

We stormed into a big house where quite a few people were sleeping.

They had already surrendered, but in the end, a few of us opened fire and killed them all.”

Gao Yang sighed, “Don’t think too much about it; those were drug traffickers, don’t see them as prisoners of war.”

Jinfang smiled helplessly, “It’s okay, I’m not thinking too much.

It’s just, I just couldn’t accept it for a moment.

There’s no helping it, you know the training I’ve had was all about taking prisoners without killing and treating prisoners of war kindly.

I just couldn’t turn the corner for a moment, but Nate was right.

Mercenaries don’t deserve prisoner of war treatment, and moreover, treating a bunch of drug traffickers as prisoners of war is just asking for trouble.”

“Is that really what you think?”

Jinfang nodded and said, “That’s really what I think, but, but, I’m just not that accustomed to shooting dozens of people, that’s all.”

Gao Yang sighed, “I understand, it’s not something one can easily get used to.”

Li Jinfang fell silent for a moment, then suddenly said, “You have to adapt even if you can’t.

Once you set foot on the path of a mercenary, there’s no turning back if you make a mistake.

Overthinking things just makes you uncomfortable.

Now that we’re mercenaries, are we supposed to wish for becoming peace envoys?”

Everyone needs time to adapt, and Li Jinfang was consoling himself.

Gao Yang smiled and said, “It’s good that you can come to terms with it.”

Li Jinfang chuckled and said, “At first, I really couldn’t accept it, but it was only a momentary thing.

Actually, if you think about it, killing those drug traffickers is a good thing.

Back in our country, these people would have been executed a hundred times over.

Killing them is just like carrying out heaven’s will.”

Li Jinfang spoke lightly, but Gao Yang knew he still had some reservations.

After all, it’s one thing to kill an enemy in battle, but quite another to shoot an enemy who has laid down their arms, let alone dozens of people.

It’s not something that you can let go of just by saying so; it takes time to adapt.

Gao Yang wasn’t worried about Li Jinfang having a psychological burden.

If he really wasn’t planning to shoot, thinking Nate’s command was wrong, then Li Jinfang wouldn’t have followed Nate’s order.

Although there was a path trampled by the drug traffickers, it was not easy to walk on.

Gao Yang and Li Jinfang stopped talking and concentrated on making their way, but after a while, Gao Yang began to feel that he couldn’t go on anymore.

With Gao Yang’s stamina, this distance wouldn’t even count as a long journey, but he had gone a whole day without food or water, and on top of his injury and blood loss, he naturally wasn’t in his normal state.

Li Jinfang quickly noticed that something was wrong with Gao Yang.

He stopped, then without a word, propped up one of Gao Yang’s arms.

With Li Jinfang’s help, they moved a lot faster, but by the time they entered the newly acquired camp, it had already been an hour and a half, twenty minutes slower than those carrying the stretcher.

The drug traffickers’ camp was located on a ridge extending out from the Eastern Cordillera mountain range.

The terrain was quite complex; the camp was divided into two parts.

The lower part had smoother terrain, bordered by valleys on both sides, and further up a steep slope, there was another smaller clearing with four wooden houses built in accordance with the terrain on the higher ground.

When constructing the camp, the trees weren’t disturbed, and the tall trees covered the entire camp.

This is the most common practice for camps in the Colombian jungle; even during the day, it’s difficult for sunlight to penetrate, so there’s no worry about being discovered by airplanes from the sky.

What Gao Yang couldn’t believe when he entered the camp was that there were still lights on.

Soon after entering the camp, Gao Yang saw Nate waving at him.

Nate shouted, “Come over, buddy, you can have dinner now.”

Gao Yang let go of Li Jinfang, who was supporting him, and walked up to Nate, saying, “What about the wounded?

Where have they been placed?”

Nate pointed to a house and said, “The wounded are all settled there.

The operating room is next door.

Little Fly is undergoing surgery, and Scarface and Test Tube are helping out there.”

Gao Yang nodded and said, “Okay, I’ll go check on them first, then come back for something to eat.”

Nate shook his head and said, “No, you won’t be able to help in the operating room apart from causing a disturbance, so it’s better to hurry up and eat while you can.

I have to tell you, we might be attacked at any time, so you better hurry up and do what you need to do.”

Gao Yang looked astonished and said, “We might be attacked at any time?

F**k!

When is this going to end!” (To be continued.
