Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 495 - 495 492 Mind is Twitching
495: Chapter 492: Mind is Twitching 495: Chapter 492: Mind is Twitching When they had come, Gao Yang and his team had over twenty vehicles, but now, only fifteen were still operational.
With more than sixty people, a tight squeeze would allow everyone to fit.
One by one, the cars emerged from the woods and, once on the trail, they raced away.
Any empty car would stop upon seeing someone, first picking up the mortar operators, then as they passed by the pickup truck with the anti-aircraft machine gun, Gao Yang shouted to Glolov, “Ditch the pickup and the AA gun, they’re too conspicuous, get in quick.”
After picking up Glolov, they swiftly picked up the snipers and at last, when reaching the area controlled by the assault team, they picked up the assault team members as well.
The car Gao Yang was in stopped at the very front, he rolled down the window and yelled to Nate, “Get in the car quickly, don’t let us get surrounded again.”
As a member of Angel Mercenary Corps passed by the car Gao Yang was in, he nonchalantly tossed something through the window, then hurried away.
Gao Yang picked up what had fallen onto the seat and saw it was a wristwatch.
Gao Yang shouted to the already distant figure, “Thanks, buddy!”
Before Gao Yang’s voice had died down, another person ran past his car window and casually threw in something, yes, another wristwatch.
Just as Gao Yang wanted to say he already had one, a man stood in front of his window, smiling and extending a hand, “Your watch broke, right?
Here, take this, I snatched it from an officer’s wrist.”
The one talking to Gao Yang was Sirte.
Gao Yang took the watch, thought for a moment but didn’t say he already had one, simply nodding at Sirte and saying, “Thanks, buddy.”
Although it was urgent, evacuating wasn’t about rushing all at once; some got into vehicles while others covered from the sides, getting into cars one after another.
So when Sirte left to find a car, two more people tossed watches into Gao Yang’s car as they passed by.
As Samuel passed by Gao Yang’s car, he was in a hurry and wiped a wristwatch on his trousers before handing it to Gao Yang, saying, “Just took it off, it’s a bit bloody, wipe it again, oh, do you have so many already?”
Samuel, noticing the pile of watches on Gao Yang’s leg, looked surprised, while Gao Yang simply took the watch and then said to Samuel, “Quite a few indeed, thanks, buddy.”
When Li Jinfang ran over to Gao Yang’s car, holding two watches in his hand, he was about to speak but then he saw the pile of watches beside Gao Yang and paused, then chuckled, tossed the watches in and ran off.
After counting the number of people and confirming that everyone was on board, Nate was the last one to get in the vehicle.
He joined Gao Yang in a car, but this time, aside from the driver, there was an extra person on the passenger seat; with fewer cars, no seat could be wasted.
However, besides those wounded, Gao Yang’s car was still the one with the fewest people.
With everyone picked up, the convoy set off once more.
After the car started moving again, Nate whistled and pointed to the pile of watches next to Gao Yang, “Not a bad haul, buddy.”
Gao Yang chuckled, “Indeed not bad, eleven watches in total.
This time, I’ve got options.”
The car sped along the muddy road, bouncing up and down, each jolt sending sharp pain through Gao Yang’s wounds, which made him worry about whether Ivan and Frey, those with serious injuries, could endure it.
“Test Tube, who’s looking after Little Fly?
How are he and Bat doing?
And Ivan, can they handle this bouncing?”
“Test Tube copies, I’m in the same vehicle as Little Fly and Bat; their conditions are very stable, no problems.
Andy He is looking after Ivan, should be no issues.
Angel’s wounded have received first aid, their conditions are stable too, with Scarface caring for them.
The bouncing certainly isn’t good for the wounded, but for a short duration, there should be no problems.
Don’t worry.”
Having received Bruce’s reply, Gao Yang looked at Nate and asked, “How is the assault team doing?
Anyone hurt?”
Nate shrugged, “Looks like I really do need to cut your pay, because the situation is unbelievably good.
Yes, you heard right, no one’s dead, no one’s injured, not even a scratch.”
“Not bad, very not bad.
Where do we go next?”
Nate sighed and said, “Chloe has selected a few suitable locations, but as for which one to go to, that’s your call.”
After saying that, Nate spoke into the radio, “Chloe, report the status of the camps you’ve chosen.”
“Report, I’ve chosen three camps that meet our criteria.
Camp One is the closest to us, sixteen kilometers south after entering the No.
40 Motorway and then a right turn into a trail.
After traveling sixteen kilometers into the jungle, it leads to a drug trafficker’s factory campsite.
The camp is in mountainous terrain, making it difficult for the enemy to deploy during an assault, with about eighty people inside, heavy weaponry, and a strong combat force.
We are not familiar with the terrain of this camp.
Camp Two, travel forty kilometers south, take a left towards the east and after about ten kilometers into the jungle, you’ll find the enemy camp with numerous personnel, fully equipped facilities, and the best condition, but with over two hundred personnel, including heavy weaponry.
It is the largest factory camp south of Bogota, and we have attacked this camp before, we are more familiar with the terrain.
Camp Three requires traveling fifty kilometers on the No.
40 Motorway, then an eight-kilometer ride on a trail after a right turn.
The camp has about a hundred people, heavy weaponry, and unknown combat strength.
There is another nearby camp of a rival drug trafficker, and the aftermath of an attack is unpredictable.
We are not familiar with the terrain.”
After Chloe reported the viable camps, Nate asked in a serious tone, “How do you choose?”
Gao Yang sighed and said, “There are pros and cons to each option, which do you think we should choose for the attack?”
Nate curled his lip and said, “Camp Number Two, although it has the most people, we’re familiar with the terrain.
If we want to take it down, the pressure isn’t actually that great.”
Gao Yang nodded and said, “All right, then Camp Number Two it is.
You’re familiar with this area, and even though your luck is a bit off, your judgment certainly won’t be wrong.
We’ll go with Camp Number Two, but make sure you don’t say anything.
I’ll handle the commands to avoid having to change plans again the moment you open your mouth.”
Nate gave a bitter smile, while Gao Yang went straight to the walkie-talkie and said, “Chloe, we’re heading to Camp Number Two, guide the route, and all vehicles pay attention, maintain distance between each other, don’t get too close.”
After finishing, Gao Yang looked at Nate and laughed, “I have to say, there are really a lot of drug dealers in Colombia.
There are so many camps just near Bogota.
But if even you guys know where these camps are, doesn’t anyone do something about it?”
Nate scoffed and said, “Go read some books about Colombia.
After you do, you won’t ask such a stupid question.”
In fact, without Nate saying much, Gao Yang also knew that he had asked a stupid question.
Before coming to Colombia, of course, he had to understand the situation in Colombia, especially since his target was a drug lord.
Although he knew, he simply couldn’t accept the situation he understood.
Mexico is currently in the midst of a drug war.
Colombia is now going through a rare period of peace, but the drug war that Colombia once experienced was even more excessive than that of Mexico.
In this world, there is no gang that could exist as recklessly as the gangs in Colombia.
Colombia is the world’s largest producer and trafficker of cocaine and is the main exporter of cocaine to the United States.
Mexico is just a transshipment point for Colombian cocaine.
In terms of production, Colombia’s output is greater because the country is more suitable for growing coca.
At the beginning of 2012, the Uralbino Gang in Medellín spread flyers on the city streets, stating that killing a police officer would earn a bounty of 500 US dollars provided by the gang.
If you killed an anti-narcotics officer, the bounty would at least double, with no upper limit.
Keep in mind, Medellín is Colombia’s second-largest city.
The Uralbino Gang is a major gang involved in drug trafficking in the northern part of Colombia, and they don’t even belong to a more powerful armed organization like the FAEC.
Despite this, the Uralbino Gang dared to set up roadblocks on various strategic routes in the northern region, controlling the logistics of the north, demanding stores not affiliated with them to cease business.
And this is just one gang without national power.
This is the current situation.
If we turn back the clock twenty years, Colombian drug lords were truly without restraint.
Pablo Escobar, once one of the seven richest men in the world, this ranking was by Time magazine.
Escobar had a private army of 40,000 men, and due to his wealth, his army was well-equipped.
How powerful was Escobar?
When he set his sights on a Colombian Navy warplane, boasted as an “airborne tank,” he could dispatch three fighter jets to force the “airborne tank” to land at his own airport, and then he turned that plane into his personal jet, naming it “Lark.”
Policemen trying to arrest Escobar were shot within three days; the judge’s wife who tried him was humiliated, and her undergarments were mailed to the judge’s office.
The Colombian Inspector General, who issued a warrant for Escobar, was counter-offered a 100 million US Dollar bounty for his capture by Escobar himself and eventually died in the streets.
Escobar’s brother, Ochoa, was arrested and the chief justice of the Colombian Supreme Court resigned one after another.
After appointing a new chief justice, the newly appointed chief justice also resigned shortly thereafter, and then, the Ministry of Justice was forced to announce the cancellation of the arrest warrant.
The United States couldn’t stand by and watch Escobar anymore, and provided funds and personnel to assist Colombia in drug enforcement.
Under the command of U.S.
military advisors, 5,000 Colombian government soldiers took transport planes straight into the Medellín Cartel’s stronghold, achieving certain results, but Escobar was not fundamentally affected.
A month later, the commander of Colombia’s drug enforcement was shot and killed.
Two months later, more than fifty gunmen sent by Escobar stormed into the Colombian Ministry of Justice building, nearly kidnapping the high-level officials of the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court, the Inspector General’s office, and the Drug Enforcement Police who were in a meeting.
The war against Escobar lasted a long time.
With the full force of the United States and the Colombian government, the President of Panama, who was Escobar’s cover, was thrown into an American prison.
Then, several top figures in the Escobar Group were either killed or captured.
After assassinating a presidential candidate, Escobar, finally cornered, kidnapped the president’s son and two journalists and started secret negotiations with the Colombian government.
In the end, Escobar reached an agreement with the Colombian government—if they would let him serve his sentence in Colombia instead of extraditing him to the United States, he would pay for the construction of a private prison to incarcerate himself.
Escobar succeeded, so he built himself a super-luxurious and ultra-secure prison and moved in.
However, after living in the prison for more than two years, Escobar escaped from a prison meant for just him, featuring sixty-nine guard towers, more than forty jail guards, and over one hundred and sixty guards.
Escobar had escaped, and, frustrated, Colombia and the United States once again went all out against Escobar.
Justice will be served; Escobar, who committed countless atrocities, would have defied all reason had he not died.
Nearly a year and a half after he escaped, in December 1993, Escobar finally died, but the fatal bullet was one that he himself fired into his ear.
Escobar was dead, but the drug network in Colombia was not.
The death of a figurehead only resulted in the emergence of more drug lords, and now, these drug lords had close ties with the Colombian government, even infiltrating it.
After revisiting what he knew, Gao Yang now thought that asking why there are so many drug lords’ camps near Bogota and nobody cares was really stupid.
