Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 487 - 487 484 Super Tucano Aircraft
487: Chapter 484 Super Tucano Aircraft 487: Chapter 484 Super Tucano Aircraft Gao Yang gave Nate a look, and then Nate said a few words into the radio, calling several people to go and check what was on the trucks one by one.
Gao Yang didn’t join in counting the equipment on the trucks.
After pulling out his phone, he smiled at the rather unhappy liaison and asked, “Can you tell me what we’ve got here?”
“One 23mm anti-aircraft gun, two hundred and fifty shells, three 81mm mortars, one hundred and sixteen rounds, two 14.5mm anti-aircraft machine guns, four thousand two hundred bullets, six RPG-7s, forty-one rockets, and additionally there are eleven thousand rounds of 5.56mm rifle ammunition.”
Despite the unpleasant tone, the head of the liaisons quickly listed off the amount of equipment they had brought.
Gao Yang chuckled and said, “Seems like the ammunition isn’t all that much.”
“That’s all we have.
If it’s not enough, you can leave it.”
The liaison’s boss looked very unhappy, which Gao Yang could understand.
Presumably, Grand Ivan had found a boss of some armed group, and the boss of this armed group couldn’t personally meet with Gao Yang and his team, so he had sent someone from a nearby camp to liaise with them.
The one who benefited from Grand Ivan’s favor was the boss, but it was this liaison who had to hand over all the heavy weapons.
The stuff they brought was useful, but the baseline amount of ammunition was too small.
Still, having some was better than none.
Gao Yang didn’t take the hostility of the liaison to heart.
After smiling, he said softly, “I’ll make the call now.”
As soon as Grand Ivan answered the phone, Gao Yang got straight to the point, “We’ve met with the liaison and got the stuff.
The person who met us said he hopes you can give his boss a call to confirm the transfer is complete.”
“Got it.
Is the equipment enough?”
Without any courtesy, Gao Yang replied, “Definitely not enough.”
Without waiting for Gao Yang to state what else he needed, Grand Ivan said with a grave tone, “I’m in the process of contacting someone now.
The things you need will be delivered as fast as possible.
Once you’ve settled down, call me with your location.
The first batch of anti-aircraft missiles will get to you in twenty-six hours.
If it’s urgent, we can arrange for an airdrop, sixty units, all SAM-7s.
They are an older model, but make do for now.
The rest will arrive soon.
Besides anti-aircraft missiles, what else do you need?”
As soon as Gao Yang heard the number of sixty anti-aircraft missiles, he was momentarily stunned, but he quickly recovered and said, “The anti-aircraft missiles are urgently needed.
I’m not quite sure what else we’ll need at the moment.
I’ll call you if we require anything else.”
Grand Ivan said in a deep voice, “Uriyangko has boarded the plane.
He’ll get in touch with you after he arrives.
Ram, please hold on.
I’m entrusting everything to you.”
After hanging up the phone with Grand Ivan, Gao Yang smiled at the liaison in front of him and nodded, “I’ve made the call.
Do you have any other requests?”
The liaison replied coldly, “Just wait for a call from my boss.”
While the two were talking, Nate walked back to Gao Yang’s side, “One SU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun.
Looks pretty old, but it should work.
However, there are too few shells.”
Gao Yang sighed and said, “Just two hundred and fifty shells, not that useful.
How about the anti-aircraft machine guns?
What condition are they in?”
Nate shook his head and said, “ZPU-1 anti-aircraft machine guns, really outdated.
They removed the mount and fitted them on pickups.
Can barely use them in the jungle, and besides, there’s not much ammo either.”
Gao Yang bitterly smiled and responded, “The exact number of bullets is four thousand two hundred, all for the single-barrel anti-aircraft machine guns.
That does meet two baseline stocks.”
Nate said gravely, “Although they are all pretty beat up, having them is better than nothing.
At least if we face another aerial attack, we won’t be completely without means to fight back.”
The baseline supply for an SU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun is two thousand four hundred shells, but Gao Yang only had two hundred and fifty shells.
For the ZPU anti-aircraft machine guns, the baseline is one thousand rounds, which they actually met.
However, both anti-aircraft guns and machine guns are notorious for wasting ammo.
Generally speaking, during combat, one anti-aircraft machine gun should be supplied with at least three times the baseline amount of ammo…
Even though they had the anti-aircraft guns, the shells were far too few, and while the machine gun bullets were slightly more abundant, Gao Yang was very skeptical of their effectiveness.
Still, the old adage held: something is better than nothing.
Even if they couldn’t shoot down any aircraft, scaring the enemy was good enough.
Just then, Nate pointed at a truck and said, “That truck over there is loaded with bullets for the anti-aircraft machine guns, 14.5mm rounds.
The weight of over four thousand bullets is one thousand one hundred kilograms.
If we need to move the machine guns to a part of the jungle the trucks can’t reach, how do we carry the ammunition…”
Gao Yang said with a bitter smile, “I think there won’t be any more planes coming.
Take the anti-aircraft guns and machine guns.
If we really can’t drive, just dump them.”
As Gao Yang and Nate were quietly discussing, the liaison’s expression much improved after receiving a phone call.
He waved at Gao Yang and for the first time put on a smile and said, “The handover of weapons is complete.
Apart from those two sedans, everything else, both the trucks and the guns, is all yours.
If there is nothing else, we’ll be taking off now.”
Gao Yang pointed at the convoy they had arrived in and said, “We’ve got plenty of vehicles, and they are of no use to us anymore.
You can take a few and go.”
The contact seemed very happy and said, “Really?
That’s great news, thank you.”
At this point, Nate spoke up on the walkie-talkie, “Leave the cars that are not suitable for muddy roads behind, we’re switching vehicles.”
Following Nate’s order, the Angel Mercenary Corps cleared out a total of nine five sedans, whose origin was unknown, but looked quite new.
They were completely unsuitable for the muddy rural roads, however, the contacts didn’t seem to care about that.
More than a dozen people happily abandoned the trucks and pickups they arrived in and got into the cars surrendered by the Angel Mercenary Corps.
Both parties were pleased with their exchange and took turns getting into their new vehicles.
The contacts, who initially looked displeased, must have received some benefits from their boss, and now, with a surprise addition of nine brand-new sedans, were all smiles.
Gao Yang waved goodbye as the contact group, consisting of a convoy of eleven vehicles, took off.
However, they headed towards No.
40 Motorway instead of into the jungle along the dirt path as Gao Yang had expected.
After waiting for the contacts’ convoy to drive off a bit, Gao Yang turned to Nate and asked, “Where do we go from here?
Back to No.
40 Motorway?”
Nate nodded and responded, “Back to No.
40 Motorway, but let’s wait a moment before we move.
My guys are searching for a new camp to take over; we should have an answer soon.
Once we confirm our destination, we’ll…”
“Wait, what’s that sound?”
Nate, interrupted mid-sentence, listened intently before his face turned pale, and he gritted his teeth, “Propellers, the sound of airplanes, lots of them.”
At their current location, surrounded by many trees, the visual field was greatly hindered though it wasn’t quite thick jungle yet.
No sooner had Nate finished speaking, Gao Yang, who was looking up through the gaps above the road, spotted at least five or six planes sweeping by.
“F**k, Super Tucano aircraft, enemy planes!
Watch out!”
Without waiting for Nate to issue orders, Gao Yang immediately shouted on the walkie-talkie.
As he yelled, another four planes, this time transport planes, swooshed over from above the No.
40 Motorway.
“All vehicles, take cover in the forest, everyone get out and spread out, deploy the anti-aircraft guns, get ready for combat, quick!”
As Nate barked orders, Gao Yang pointed up to the sky and bellowed, “The planes are coming back!”
Six Super Tucano aircraft had already flown past the little road where Gao Yang and the others had stopped, but now they circled back in the air and headed towards them again.
Just as Gao Yang was shouting, the Super Tucanos above opened fire.
Gao Yang saw it clear as day.
Two Super Tucanos dived one after the other, releasing a volley of rockets from their underbelly pods.
Simultaneously, the dual 12.7 millimeter machine guns on the planes strafed the convoy traveling along the dirt path.
As the two planes swept over the convoy and pulled up their noses to climb, another two Super Tucanos took their turn diving and opening fire towards the vehicles.
This time, along with the rocket fire, they also dropped two bombs.
Instantly, the convoy erupted in flames, with at least seven or eight vehicles blown up and burning from that split second of barrage.
After another slow and methodical strike from two more Super Tucanos, there wasn’t a single vehicle left in the convoy that could move.
For Gao Yang, the good news was that the targeted convoy was the one that had just left, the contacts.
The bad news was that the planes had spotted them.
The contacts had become scapegoats.
If it weren’t for the convoy of contacts drawing fire, Gao Yang didn’t even want to imagine how many people might have died under that aerial assault.
While they avoided the first wave of attacks, the contacts’ convoy was at most less than two kilometers away from them.
The Super Tucanos, after attacking the contacts’ vehicles, had also spotted Gao Yang’s convoy.
It was indeed a stroke of luck to have scapegoats.
Gao Yang’s convoy was desperately driving into the woods, and although many vehicles got stuck after leaving the path, at least several managed to leave the exposed road.
Gao Yang’s face turned pale green as he screamed, “Ammunition vehicles, get into the forest, move it!”
As Gao Yang was yelling, Nate was also shouting into the walkie-talkie, “Someone man the anti-aircraft machine guns, deploy the anti-aircraft guns, and everyone else take cover.”
When attacking ground targets with their guns and rockets, the Super Tucanos had to tilt their noses down for a dive-bombing approach.
After hitting the contacts’ convoy, they couldn’t immediately attack Gao Yang’s group.
However, the Super Tucanos were slow and could quickly re-enter the attack formation.
After pulling up from the attack, they looped back in the air and dove again, this time targeting Gao Yang’s convoy.
