Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 469 - 469 466 Mercenary Hires a Mercenary
469: Chapter 466: Mercenary Hires a Mercenary 469: Chapter 466: Mercenary Hires a Mercenary “People inside, listen up, you are surrounded.
Lay down your weapons and stop resisting.”
The content of the police’s loudspeakers is roughly the same worldwide, the procedure hardly varies.
Although the police who had Gao Yang and his crew firmly sealed off had arranged themselves in an attack formation, they still shouted warnings instead of directly assaulting without any notice.
Gao Yang feared neither gangsters, drug lords, nor anti-government guerrillas, but the idea of clashing with the police was his greatest fear.
The reason was simple: going up against the machinery of state violence, there was no alternative but a death wish.
If they managed to repel the police, the authorities could just deploy SWAT teams.
If SWAT proved insufficient, they would send special forces.
Should the special forces fail, they could simply dispatch more troops.
If only they could break the encirclement.
Fighting the police while utterly surrounded and without a slither of hope was absolutely idiotic.
So, Gao Yang would never fire at the police, no matter what.
He didn’t want to provoke them into leaving no chance for surrender, leading to utter annihilation—now that would be a truly dire outcome.
After Brejinsky translated the police’s message to Gao Yang, there was no need for further instruction.
He immediately shouted back, “We have hostages, foreign hostages!
If you attack, we’ll kill them!”
After his loud declaration, Brejinsky whispered to Gao Yang, “Probably won’t make much difference.
If the police decide to storm in, don’t react, just keep playing the hostages.”
Gao Yang mustered a bitter smile, “Playing hostages won’t last us long, and it’s not of much use.
But if things go south, we surrender.
Let’s see if anyone can rescue us.”
Brejinsky’s face was a mask of misery, “Getting caught by the police is a death sentence too.
Right now, Samuel and the others aren’t surrounded.
If they could launch a surprise attack from behind, maybe we could join forces and break out.”
Brejinsky knew the suggestion was a long shot at best.
Apart from whether Samuel’s group could break through the police cordon, the key issue was the presence of Ivan, Sergei, Frey, and Lucica, the four severely wounded members who couldn’t move.
Even if Samuel’s group created an opportunity on the outside, Gao Yang and his group were incapable of leaving with their injured.
The police started shouting from outside again.
Brejinsky listened intently, and then, with a surprised expression, said, “They’re saying not to harm the hostages, that terms can be negotiated, and we must ensure the safety of hostages.
What’s going on with that?”
Gao Yang’s eyes sparkled, “No matter what it is, it’ll definitely buy us some time.
Bear, take Rabbit out and show him, make up some demands to delay them.
I need to contact someone quickly to arrange a rescue for us after we get caught.
Also, there’s no use for Samuel and the others to come now; let them hide and plan for a rescue with our agent once they get in touch.”
Brejinsky grabbed an underling and gave a few orders, while Gao Yang also instructed Cui Bo, “Rabbit, pretend to be a hostage.
Our foreign faces should be useful, just be careful not to show your face.”
Cui Bo ducked his head with his hands clasped behind it, his arms raised just enough to cover his face, then one of Brejinsky’s men pushed him out the door, pistol to his head.
After Cui Bo was shown to the police and quickly brought back inside, Brejinsky began to loudly lay out terms to the officers.
Meanwhile, Brejinsky also seized the moment to call Samuel.
While Brejinsky called Samuel, Gao Yang was urgently dialing Uriyangko.
Once Uriyangko answered, Gao Yang immediately spoke in a lowered voice, “Vampire, we’re really in big trouble this time.”
Uriyangko replied with great anxiety, “What’s happening?
Is Ivan, is Ivan dead?”
Gao Yang said urgently, “He’s not dead yet, he’s in surgery, but we’re surrounded by the police.
We’re likely to get caught, and I don’t know if we can hold out until Ivan’s surgery is done.
I’m also unsure if the police will allow time for the surgery or if the gang will wipe us the moment we surrender.
Everything’s so uncertain.
The only thing I do know is that you’ll have to figure out a way to get us out of here if we’re to survive long enough for your help.”
“F**k, this is a real mess, a big mess!
But no matter what, try to stay alive.
I’ll do everything I can to get you out, and I’m on my way now.
Also, Grand Ivan will step in.
Trust me, as long as you’re alive, he will definitely get you out.
But please, make every effort to keep Ivan alive.”
Uriyangko had just finished speaking when Brejinsky urgently said, “Ram, I’ve got Hammer on the line.
He’s with your agent, and your agent wants to talk to you.”
After telling Uriyangko to hold on, Gao Yang took the phone from Brejinsky, “Hello, Little Donnie, do you have any ideas?”
“Ram, I’m with Hammer, we’re very close to you, and we have all our equipment.
But listen to me, Ram, Hammer can’t break through the police cordon.
I’ve decided not to attack for now.
I’m going to stay and plan a rescue.
It’s best if you give up resistance, Ram.
Once you’re in police custody, I’ll intervene immediately.
As long as you stay alive, there’s hope.
But if you die while resisting, then it’s all over.”
Little Donnie’s thoughts mirrored Gao Yang’s: don’t let Samuel and his men launch a futile attack only to die in vain.
Better to preserve a force for the rescue effort to come.
Gao Yang was relieved that Little Donnie had stayed in the hotel and hadn’t accompanied them to the jewelry store.
In hindsight, it was fortunate Little Donnie didn’t follow along; they had left a man on the outside who could organize a rescue, without everyone being wiped out in one fell swoop.
After pondering for a moment, Gao Yang said gravely, “Little Donnie, someone will get in touch with you.
If we get caught instead of being killed on the spot, you cooperate with them to find a way to rescue us.
If we’re all dead, you should leave Colombia immediately.
That’s all.”
Time was of the essence.
Having ended the call with Little Donnie, Gao Yang grabbed the satellite phone to call Morgan.
He couldn’t put all his hope in Uriyangko; Gao Yang had to use his own connections to try to save himself.
And now, the most capable person he could rely on was naturally Morgan.
Before calling Morgan, Gao Yang glanced at Cui Bo and asked, “How is it?
Any effect?”
Cui Bo shook his head and said, “No news has come back yet.
I think it’s unlikely.
If it were purely a police operation, it might have worked, but I’m afraid that if the police are in cahoots with those who attacked Ivan, they’ll probably still go with an armed assault.”
Gao Yang knew what Cui Bo meant.
The attackers had retreated just a moment before the police arrived, clearly tipped off.
Moreover, it’s very possible that the attackers had notified the police before they took action.
It would be impossible to say there was no collusion between the attackers and the police.
Gao Yang could only hope that the collusion wasn’t deep enough to allow the police to disregard the lives of foreign hostages and launch a direct attack.
There weren’t many numbers saved in Gao Yang’s satellite phone.
He scrolled to Morgan’s number, ready to dial, but realized that just before Morgan’s number was the contact for the Angel Mercenary Corps.
Seeing the number for the Angel Mercenary Corps made something click in Gao Yang’s mind.
Then he immediately dialed out, not to Morgan, but to the liaison officer of the Angel Mercenary Corps.
After two beeps, someone picked up the call.
A stranger’s voice came through, “Hello, who is this?
Who are you looking for?”
Gao Yang said anxiously, “I’m looking for Nate Schumacher; put him on the phone, quick!”
After a pause, the unfamiliar voice said, “Hello, who is this?”
Gao Yang was almost frantic and yelled, “I’m Ram, Ram of the Satan Mercenary Corps.
If Nate’s with you, put him on the phone, now!”
“Ram?
Alright, I’m not sure if the colonel will take your call.
If I hang up, that means he can’t talk to you.
If that happens, please don’t call again.”
After saying this, the other end fell silent, though the line was still open.
Despite his urgency, Gao Yang had no choice but to wait patiently.
It took about half a minute, and then finally, Gao Yang heard a familiar voice.
“Hello, Ram.
I’m surprised you’d call me, but I’m glad to take your call.
What’s up?”
Hearing Nate’s voice, Gao Yang quickly said, “Nate, where are you guys now?
Still in Colombia?”
“Yeah, we’re resting in Bogota.
We won’t leave until tomorrow.
What’s the matter?”
Gao Yang had never found the Angel Mercenary Corps and Nate Schumacher so endearing.
He said excitedly, “Something’s up; I’ve got a job I want to hire you for.”
“Oh?
The Satan Mercenary Corps wanting to hire the Angel Mercenary Corps for a job?
Mercenaries hiring mercenaries?
Haha, that’s pretty strange, buddy.
But, weird as it feels, I don’t see a reason to refuse.
Alright, let me tell you our rate.
Our starting fee for a job is ten million US dollars, but it ultimately depends on what exactly you want us to do.”
“Cut the crap.
I’m hiring you to get us out from a police siege.
Just name your price.”
Nate fell silent for a moment and then let out a snort of laughter, “Oh, did you guys stir up the trouble in the city?
Haha, buddy, how did you get yourself surrounded by the police?
That’s hilarious.
You got cops from Bogota to surround you; looks like you’re in quite the mess.”
Gao Yang said urgently, “Just tell me if you’ll take the job or not, and if so, give me a quote.
I don’t have time for small talk!”
Gao Yang was in a hurry, but Nate Schumacher spoke leisurely, “Take it?
Why not?
But think it through because given your current tight situation, I’m definitely going to take the opportunity to fleece you.”
