Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 462 - 462 459 Bloodbath on the Streets
462: Chapter 459: Bloodbath on the Streets 462: Chapter 459: Bloodbath on the Streets Since there were no tasks at hand for the moment, Gao Yang planned to take a half-month-long vacation after leaving Colombia.
Everyone was free to do whatever they wanted.
Mercenaries aren’t a regular army, so there was no need or way to keep everyone tied together.
However, once the vacation was over, as long as there weren’t any major jobs to take on, a training session would have to be arranged.
Tommy and Lucica were new additions to the group, and they needed to train with the team.
Lucica, in particular, had a lot to catch up on, so she would have to sweat as much as everyone else.
Besides tactical training and building teamwork with the squad, Lucica had many other things to learn.
Gao Yang had decided that he wanted to learn how to fly a plane.
He didn’t need to learn any particularly difficult or complex skills; just being able to get a small plane off the ground and land it safely was enough.
There were plenty of schools in America that taught flying, and getting a pilot’s license was simple.
In the days they waited in Bogota, Ivan was out every day, only returning to the hotel in the evening, appearing quite busy.
Thus, Gao Yang and his team were always on their own, exploring various parts of Bogota.
Having come all the way to Colombia, it wasn’t just about fighting; it was also good to take the time to travel when possible.
On the fourth day, it was time for Gao Yang and the others to pick up the jewelry from Patrick’s shop, and once they had the jewelry, they could leave at any time.
Gao Yang had already asked Ivan to arrange their return trip.
He wanted to fly directly to the United States, but taking a bunch of long and short guns to the US wasn’t very realistic.
So, these past few days, Gao Yang had been fretting over how to deal with his guns.
If it came down to it, he would rather fly with his guns to Africa, store them properly, and then head back to the US.
Gao Yang didn’t mind the trouble; what he feared was his pistol and the Blade of Satan being mishandled or simply lost by others.
That would truly be heart-breaking.
All their things were packed, and now they were just waiting for the plane Ivan had arranged.
However, even by ten in the morning, Gao Yang had knocked on Ivan’s door several times, but Ivan wasn’t in his room at all.
Just as Gao Yang was getting impatient and was about to call Ivan, Ivan finally arrived.
Knocking on Gao Yang’s door, Ivan came in with a big smile and said, “Sorry, I’ve been so busy these past few days that I forgot you guys were leaving today.
But don’t worry, it’s not that bad.
I’ve already arranged a plane for you, and you can take all your stuff with you to the United States.”
Gao Yang finally let out a sigh of relief and asked, “Great, what time is departure?”
Ivan chuckled embarrassingly and said, “Well, you’ll have to delay a day.
The plane takes off at four in the morning tomorrow, so don’t check out of the hotel yet.
I’ll take you to the airport tonight.”
Gao Yang shrugged and replied, “Okay, that’s not a problem.
We’re about to go get the custom jewelry now.
Are you coming?”
Ivan smiled and said, “Of course, let’s go together.
We’ll leave right now.”
There was no need to step outside; Gao Yang used the intercom to inform the others that it was time to get the jewelry and then promptly changed into his outdoor attire.
Bogota was in the tropics, and despite being at a high altitude, it was hot as hell.
Lately, Gao Yang had started to dress like Ivan—a pair of large shorts and an oversized T-shirt, which could conceal a handgun around his waist quite well.
As for shoes, given the sensitivity of his profession, Gao Yang would never wear flip-flops no matter what.
Even if he wasn’t in combat boots, he would at least wear light, breathable sneakers.
Once they were ready to leave, Gao Yang and his team ventured out in full force, piling into the vehicle Ivan had prepared, and headed straight for Patrick’s father and son’s shop.
Patrick’s shop was well-known throughout Bogota, and even globally, as a specialist in emerald crafting, with a very good reputation.
There was basically no need to worry about them swapping customer’s raw stones, as every piece of jewelry came with a certificate of authenticity.
If there ever was an issue with the jewelry sold by Patrick’s shop, it was their own reputation on the line.
After paying the balance and inspecting the jewelry one by one, and picking up the appraisal documents for each piece, the process of collecting the goods was simple and quick.
However, Gao Yang was somewhat puzzled to see that the owner of Patrick’s shop seemed somewhat fearful when looking at their group, which was not the case when they had visited last time.
Although the order was just for processing, the jewelry Gao Yang and his team had custom-made at Patrick’s was surely a big deal for the shop.
Just in processing fees and some additional materials, Gao Yang had shelled out twenty thousand US Dollars.
It was just Gao Yang alone who paid twenty thousand US Dollars, and with the expenses from the others, it was definitely a big deal.
Hence, the owner of Patrick’s shop, Old Patrick, had been very happy to serve them.
But now, Old Patrick’s gaze was wary and preoccupied as he looked at Gao Yang and his team.
Gao Yang found it odd, but didn’t think too much of it, chiefly because Old Patrick only spoke Spanish, and his son who spoke English, Little Patrick, wasn’t there today.
Gao Yang had no desire to go to great lengths to inquire why a stranger seemed troubled.
Gao Yang had the most items to collect and thus took the longest time.
Once he had finished handing over his own things, Ivan approached Gao Yang with a smile and asked, “All set?
It’s about time for lunch.
I’ve invited you guys to a famous restaurant in Bogota.
I’ve already booked the table, so once you’re done, we can head out.”
Gao Yang packed all the accessories into his backpack and after securing the certificates, he waved his hand and said, “Let’s go, time for lunch, Ivan is treating.”
Patrick’s shop was located on the corner of a busy intersection with heavy traffic, where parking spaces were in high demand.
Thus, after dropping them off, Ivan’s car drove off to park elsewhere.
Laughing and chatting, they left the shop.
Gao Yang and Ivan stood at the entrance when Sergei took a couple of steps forward and waved to the car parked fifty meters away, signaling it to come pick them up.
As they waited for the car to arrive, Frey came up to Gao Yang, smiling, and said, “Boss, the craftsmanship here is really good.
The piece they made for me looks beautiful.
What about you?
Let me see what you picked.”
Gao Yang smiled and replied, “It’s all in the bag.
I’ll show you later.
Now’s not the time to look at these things in the middle of the street.”
No sooner had Gao Yang finished his sentence than he saw Frey’s eyes widen suddenly, and almost reflexively, Frey reached out to pull Gao Yang by the waist.
At the same time, Gao Yang heard Antonov shout, “Careful!”
Antonov’s warning was unnecessary, for Gao Yang had already sensed something was wrong.
He had been watching the street and noticed that, amidst the hustle and bustle of the intersection, suddenly four or five people drew guns.
Passersby at the intersection, along with those who had stopped to make phone calls, and even some people in their cars, suddenly pulled out their guns.
Gao Yang was quick to react.
Although he wasn’t prepared for this, by the time he realized something was wrong, the gunmen had already started firing.
Antonov, who never strayed far from Ivan’s side, immediately did what a true bodyguard should do.
In an instant, he shielded Ivan behind himself and, pressing Ivan’s head down, pushed him to the ground.
However, the majority of the guns on the street were aimed at Ivan, and there were simply too many shooters.
With just a glance, Gao Yang spotted at least ten gunmen.
At the same time as Ivan was shoved to the ground by Antonov, guns from at least three different directions fired at Ivan.
Gao Yang saw Ivan get hit by at least three bullets, and Antonov, who was covering for him, was hit even more.
The moment Gao Yang realized they were under attack, he began to draw his gun, while Frey, instinctively, positioned himself in front of Gao Yang.
Everything happened too quickly.
As Frey reached over to pull Gao Yang and then shielded him, Ivan had already been shot and fallen, while Gao Yang had just drawn his pistol and fired at an attacker.
Although Ivan was the main target, Gao Yang was too close to him.
Whether intentionally or not, Gao Yang was within the shooters’ range.
As Ivan fell, Gao Yang watched as Frey, who was in front of him, jerked and then collapsed before him.
Gao Yang had no time for shock or fear; he instinctively fired at every gunman he could see, while his teammates behind him were also quick to react.
Almost simultaneously with Gao Yang’s shots, Li Jinfang’s pistol also fired.
Sergei, who was less than two meters away from Ivan, threw himself on Ivan before drawing his gun and firing at their attackers, yet soon, Sergei too was hit by two bullets.
Following Li Jinfang’s lead, with a barely one-second delay, the rest opened fire: Cui Bo, Glolov, Bruce, and Tommy.
The only one who did not fire was Lucica, as she was unarmed.
The attackers mostly used pistols, but those who were pre-ambushed in their cars had automatic rifles.
Gao Yang knocked out all the automatic rifles he saw almost instantly, and in just two or three seconds, there was no one left on the street capable of firing.
Gao Yang emerged unscathed at the forefront because Frey had taken the bullets meant for him.
Once there were no more gunmen firing in the street, Gao Yang grabbed Frey and retreated into Patrick’s store, and while pulling Frey back, Lucica, Bruce, and Cui Bo, who was closest to the doorway, also dragged Ivan and the others inside the store.
After pulling everyone inside, Gao Yang yelled, “Test Tube, save them!
Everyone else, stay alert, stay alert!”
Li Jinfang and Glolov, guarding the entrance, suddenly turned and dashed a few steps back, ducking inside the door.
Then Li shouted, “Take cover, take cover!
More enemies are coming!” (To be continued.
