441: Chapter 438: Two Demolition Experts.

Gao Yang glanced at his watch; the battle had lasted only five minutes from start to finish, even including the few words exchanged with Pailano.

Kamp had already taken charge, organizing people to console those who had surrendered and to carry away the bodies; the cleanup operations began in an orderly fashion.

The members of the Angel Mercenary Corps quickly entered the camp.

Nate walked over to Gao Yang, looked down at the lifeless body of Pailano, shrugged his shoulders, and said, “Good, your mission is complete and so is mine, now we both have accounted to our employers.”

Gao Yang gave a wry smile, “Indeed, our missions are complete, except both our employers are also dead.”

Nate cracked a slight smile and said, “The life or death of our employer is not our concern; we just need to complete the mission.

Sirte told me about your battle experience in the town of Santo Onos, the Phantom Mercenary Group was annihilated, and Teodulo and his elite almost all died.

I must say you did well.

I heard you found a good gunner?

Good gunners are hard to come by these days, I would like to see his skills when I get the chance.”

Gao Yang smiled and said, “Without Sirte, it wouldn’t have been so easy to take down Teodulo, your Can Opener is extremely useful.”

Nate nodded, then said with a stern face, “Sirte stepped on a landmine, and I am grateful that you didn’t abandon him.”

Gao Yang waved it off, “It’s a small matter, not worth mentioning.

By the way, where is Justin?

I haven’t seen him.”

“Justin is waiting in the back; he’ll come over when I notify him.

Okay, we don’t need an intelligence dealer to add to the chaos, let him wait.”

Gao Yang pointed to the meeting room previously owned by Pailano and said, “We are going to leave here soon, before we go, can we sit and talk inside?

I might as well take advantage of another cup of coffee from you.”

Nate happily accepted the invitation and went into the meeting room with Gao Yang.

However, before the two entered, a soldier from the Angel Mercenary Corps went in to search the room, while Frey stood directly at the door of the meeting room, taking position on either side of the door after the soldier came out.

After sitting down, Nate took off his helmet, threw it onto the long table, and smiled, “Here’s a suggestion, a demolition expert is crucial.

We can’t carry heavy weapons, so when we encounter targets that are hard to breach, blowing them up is a good option, both for creating a path and making an opening.

You need someone like Sirte, another demolitions expert.”

Gao Yang nodded repeatedly, “I didn’t realize before, but after working once with Sirte, I saw the problem.

We do indeed need to find a good demolitions expert.”

Nate sighed, “Good demolition experts are hard to find; you can’t just pick someone who only knows how to use explosives.

Everyone can use explosives, but achieving the best effect is challenging.

I couldn’t handle a fortification with ten kilograms of explosives that Sirte could blow up with just half a kilogram.

He could instantly identify the critical load-bearing points of a structure, something I can’t do, so if you’re looking for a professional demolitions expert, you should find someone with a background in engineering troops.”

Gao Yang scratched his head, “That’s hard to find, I don’t even know where to look for such talent.”

Nate shrugged, “If you’re interested, I could recommend a couple of people to you.”

Gao Yang chuckled bitterly, “Thanks for your concern and kindness, but why do I feel like this is not a good thing.”

“Hmm, don’t get me wrong; this time it’s not because I want your mercenary force to grow quickly so that we can hurry up and have a decisive battle.

I’m recommending demolition experts because I know two tough guys who owe me a favor, and I can’t get them into the Angels, so I want them to join another good mercenary group that can make big money.

Obviously, your mercenary group is the only one I approve of.”

Gao Yang was even more surprised after hearing Nate’s explanation and exclaimed in astonishment, “F**k, two people?”

Nate nodded, “Correct, one is McDonald Quinn, a Northern Irishman, an old guard of the Sinn Fin party, a staunch separatist, and most importantly, he is a godfather in bomb-making whose techniques are still in use around the world.

The other one is Rafael Bellini, an Italian who served in the Julia Alpine Brigade under Alpine Command and retired as a sergeant from the affiliated mountain infantry battalion.

Besides being an excellent demolition man, he is also a qualified mountain infantryman.”

After Nate finished speaking, Gao Yang furrowed his brows, “That McDonald Quinn, he must be quite old, right?”

After pondering for a moment, Nate nodded and said, “He should be over sixty by now, quite old indeed, but extremely experienced.

Of course, McDonald is now too old to join a mercenary group.

If needed, you could pay him to help you or to train your demolition men, but if you need a dedicated demolition expert, then my primary recommendation is Rafael.”

Gao Yang shook his head and said, “Thanks, but I’m sorry, if I can’t find a suitable blaster, I’ll consider looking for a suitable candidate to learn from MacDonald Quinn, and train a blaster myself.

But that Italian, I won’t consider him.”

Nate was quite surprised and said, “Why?

I must clarify something, the reason why I introduced MacDonald first is because he holds a position too high; he’s like a godfather.

But the only one who can join the Satan Mercenary Corps is Rafael.

There’s something else I have to tell you: Sirte is a student taught by MacDonald Quinn, and what’s more important is that Rafael is also MacDonald’s student; MacDonald treats Rafael as if he was his own son.

You understand the key point here, right?”

Gao Yang gave a wry smile and said, “Nate, why didn’t you let Rafael join the Angel Mercenary Corps?”

“Very simple, my Angel Mercenary Corps only takes Germans, and Rafael is an Italian.”

Gao Yang sighed and said, “When I’m recruiting, I also have requirements regarding nationality, as long as they’re not Italian.”

After Nate was momentarily taken aback, he gave a knowing smile and said, “Why?

Because of the poor performance of Italians during World War II?

What I want to say is, although Italians performed poorly in World War II, the main responsibility does not lie with the soldiers.

Most soldiers, um, some soldiers, well, there are still some soldiers who are very, very outstanding and extremely brave.

The lousy performance of the Italian military should mainly blame their idiotic commanders.”

Gao Yang laughed and said, “I agree with what you say, and I also believe the Rafael you mentioned is very impressive.

But the problem is a person I respect greatly once gave me a piece of advice.

He said, if your enemy is an Arab, you’ve already won; if your comrade is an Italian, you’ve already lost.”

After saying this, Gao Yang sighed and said, “The person who gave me this advice is my mentor, oh, he’s also a German, a World War II veteran, served under Rommel in the North African Legion, a real sniper.

The things he taught me have benefitted me for a lifetime, so I won’t go against the advice he gave me.”

Nate laughed and said, “A soldier from the North African Legion, no wonder he gave you such advice.

I admit the advice your teacher gave is quite sensible, very sensible indeed.”

Gao Yang spread his hands and said, “You see, that’s exactly the problem, even if that Rafael is excellent, I will not let him join the Satan’s.”

Nate burst into laughter, and said, “What if I tell you that although Rafael is of Italian nationality, he isn’t considered a typical Italian; would you accept him then?”

Gao Yang asked, curious, “What do you mean?”

“What I mean is, Rafael is from Sicily.

Do you understand now?”

As soon as Nate said this, Gao Yang immediately understood, and with a look of sudden realization, he said, “Sicilian?

That indeed does not count as Italian.

Very good.”

Without a doubt, Sicily now belongs to Italy, but how should I put it; within the eccentric country of Italy, Sicilians are even more peculiar.

When one mentions Sicilians, the first thing that comes to mind is the Mafia of Sicily.

The Mafia, whose roots lie in Sicily, is not only powerful in Italy but also a leading criminal force in the United States.

The character of Sicilians is quite different from Italians.

People in the south and north look down on each other, and those from Sicily disapprove of all Italians.

Throughout history, Sicily has mostly been an independent country, and because of frequent invasions and countless wars, coupled with poverty and backwardness, Sicilians developed a savage, rebellious, and pugnacious character.

Just from the standpoint of character alone, Sicilians are indeed different from the Italians of the Apennine Peninsula.

If you put Sicilians into the Italian military, there wouldn’t be much difference to spot, but Sicilians have one characteristic: if they join the army to serve their country, their performance is mediocre, but if they fight for themselves, or for their family and clan, they immediately turn into dragons.

No need to talk much about the shameful history of the Italian military in World War II, but what has to be mentioned is that the Italian partisans actually performed quite well, boasting impressive military achievements.

Even Mussolini was executed by the Italian partisans, and among them, the Sicilian partisans stood out.

Even now, there are still many Sicilians who don’t consider themselves Italian.

If a Sicilian says they’re not Italian, whether they’re Sicilian, Italian, or even from another European country, nobody would be surprised.

For Gao Yang, he would rather miss out on a good blaster than accept an Italian into his ranks; but if the blaster was a Sicilian, well, that’s a different story altogether.
