419: Chapter 416: Where’s the Target?

After taking out the sentry at a critical position, Gao Yang waved his hand, and the three of them officially entered the camp’s boundaries.

There weren’t many buildings in the camp, but they were fairly large and the open ground made it hard to move unseen.

However, the jungle nights were extremely dark and the camp was void of any light.

As long as they made no sound, they could still risk moving deeper into the camp.

Once Gao Yang and his team entered the camp, Fire Support Team B followed, entering at intervals and maintaining a distance of about twenty meters.

If discovered, they would suppress the enemy with concentrated fire, covering Team A as they continued the attack or retreated.

The operation continued in silence.

Gao Yang, following his memory, bypassed several houses and headed straight for Teodulo’s residence.

There were about a dozen houses in the camp, and Teodulo’s was located in the middle, with a sentry hidden in the tree behind the house.

It was odd that there were only a few tree sentries and none of the fixed or roving guards typically found in a camp.

As he easily reached the vicinity of Teodulo’s house, Gao Yang had to set his misgivings aside for the moment.

Gao Yang planned to storm into Teodulo’s house and take out Teodulo himself; the others would be handled by the covering Team B.

Therefore, the next obstacle to tackle was the sentry right above Teodulo’s house.

However, since the sentry was in the middle of the camp, even using a silenced pistol made it difficult to guarantee that other sentries wouldn’t notice.

Gao Yang aimed his pistol at the sentry in the tree.

There was only one person on this particular tree, making the job relatively simple.

If the shot went unnoticed, they would continue to advance quietly.

If discovered, the operation would shift to a frontal assault.

Although the distance was a bit far, at about thirty-four or thirty-five meters, Gao Yang was confident he could solve the problem with his pistol.

Moreover, the sentry had his back to him, increasing Gao Yang’s confidence of a lethal first strike.

Having Lee Jinfang and Sirte ready for an assault, Gao Yang raised his pistol, aimed at the back of the sentry’s head—a spot that would ensure a fatal shot.

With a soft “pop,” the sentry on the tree leaned forward and collapsed onto the platform.

Nights in the rainforest were anything but quiet.

Animal cries and insects’ various pitches mixed into the background noise, making the “pop” of the gunshot sound less jarring.

Although the shot wasn’t loud, it wasn’t soft either—at least the members of Team B following Gao Yang heard it clearly.

After firing, Gao Yang quickly holstered his pistol and braced himself for the inevitable forced attack, but after a brief wait, the camp was still silent.

They had breached the core area, yet the enemy remained unaware.

The operation was going too smoothly—too smoothly to be normal.

Gao Yang felt something was off; there had to be something wrong somewhere.

He didn’t necessarily think it was a trap set by the enemy, but certainly, something was amiss.

Sirte took two steps back and, upon reaching Gao Yang’s side, spoke in an extremely low voice, “Something’s not right.

The guard in Teodulo’s camp shouldn’t be this lax.”

“Do you think it’s a trap?”

After hearing Gao Yang’s question, Sirte pondered for a moment before responding, “It doesn’t seem like it.

If it were a trap, they wouldn’t let the sentry get killed so easily.

I actually think Teodulo is not in the camp.”

Sirte’s words were almost the same as Gao Yang’s judgment, but given the circumstances, they still had to see for themselves what was going on.

Team B could see Gao Yang and his group.

Gao Yang made a gesture to remind his teammates that they were about to launch an attack on Teodulo’s house, then slowly walked toward it.

They approached Teodulo’s house door without any trouble.

Gao Yang listened, but there was no sound from inside the house.

He gestured to Sirte and Li Jinfang to get ready, after which Sirte aimed his shotgun at the position where the bolt should be, then Gao Yang gently pushed the door.

Gao Yang just wanted to test if the door could be pushed open.

If it couldn’t be, then it would be Sirte’s turn to blow the bolt with the shotgun.

The first round in Sirte’s shotgun was a breaching cartridge, prepared especially for this moment.

To Gao Yang’s surprise, the wooden door made from logs actually opened a small crack with his gentle push.

Although it was unexpected, Gao Yang continued to push harder, reaching out to swing the wooden door open.

The wooden door made a creaking sound, and as Gao Yang pushed the door open, the ready-to-pounce Li Jinfang rushed in instantly.

Despite his speed, Li Jinfang’s movements were silent, and at the moment he charged in, Gao Yang immediately followed behind him, entering the room.

Gao Yang and Lee had been so well trained by their instructors in Israel that they could carry out such moves flawlessly with their eyes closed.

After the two entered the room, they pointed their guns at the most threatening positions.

Once they confirmed there was no danger in the outer room, the last to enter, Sirte, had already dashed past them into the inner room.

Although they had never worked together before, a master is a master, and Sirte knew what he had to do.

Sirte was the first to rush into Teodulo’s bedroom, but he did not fire his gun.

Immediately after, Gao Yang and Li Jinfang entered the bedroom in succession only to find that the large bed was empty—it seemed Teodulo really wasn’t there.

Gao Yang immediately said over the radio: “Target not present, repeat, target not present.

We will continue to search for the target.”

Not having found Teodulo, they certainly couldn’t give up.

After informing everyone that the search must continue, Gao Yang then said, “Team A, go to the third and fourth houses where we’ve spotted people.

Teams B and C, be ready.”

Gao Yang had detected the presence of people in two houses using the thermal imaging scope on his gun.

Now that Teodulo had not been found, they definitely needed to search those two houses next.

The occupied houses were right behind Teodulo’s, at a distance of only about twenty meters, and they were two large houses built side by side.

After signaling with his hand, the three of them left Teodulo’s room, hugged the wall, and bypassed Teodulo’s house.

Just as they were about to move towards those two rooms, having reached the halfway point, they suddenly saw a light turn on in one of the rooms.
