317: Chapter Three Hundred and Fifteen: Creating Opportunities, Seizing Opportunities.

The trees long for tranquility, but the wind will not cease.

When Gao Yang was set on revenge, he could advance triumphantly, engaging in battle after battle victoriously, but now as he wanted to retreat, it was the Nuer United Front that relentlessly pursued him.

Apart from running, Gao Yang had no other choice.

While zigzagging rapidly, Gao Yang’s heart continued to sink.

His current situation was perilously unprecedented.

With the distance less than two hundred meters, if the enemy’s vehicle had a machine gun—it wasn’t even necessary to have a machine gun—if there were just a few AK47s firing at him simultaneously, Gao Yang would hardly avoid being hit.

Personality determines destiny, this saying was utterly accurate.

The one who had placed Gao Yang in danger was none other than himself.

Usually, Gao Yang could be considered a rational person, but it all depended on the circumstances.

If it involved his family and friends, then everything would change.

Gao Yang would become impulsive and act without regard for the consequences; he would dare do anything.

Now, Gao Yang was paying the price for his impulsiveness, but he had no regrets.

Even if he were to capsize in a gutter and truly get killed here, Gao Yang wouldn’t have a trace of remorse.

Now that Gao Yang knew the Akuri tribe might be safe, he was able to calm down and think.

But when he first learned that the Akuri tribe might have been slaughtered, it was impossible for him to consider that others might be living in the huts built by the Akuri people, so launching into a campaign of revenge was an inevitable outcome.

At this point, Gao Yang had no regrets.

He was only puzzled because everything the Nuer United Front did was out of the ordinary.

Listening to the sound of bullets whizzing by, Gao Yang pushed his speed to the limit, but fortunately, neither of the two vehicles unleashed a hail of gunfire with automatic weapons at him.

As Gao Yang sprinted, a sudden blaze of light appeared in front of him.

He turned his head while running and saw both vehicles had turned on a row of bright lights on their roofs.

The rooftop lights were intensely bright and shot beams far into the distance; Gao Yang’s figure was completely exposed under the illumination.

After the headlights firmly locked onto him, a series of gunshots rang out from atop one of the vehicles, but the firing quickly ceased and did not sound again.

Gao Yang glanced back and saw he was now over three hundred meters away from the two vehicles.

The other cars were also rapidly approaching, at roughly three to four hundred meters’ distance.

Now, eight vehicles formed a fan shape behind him.

Gao Yang didn’t dare to stop, nor could he afford to.

The enemy was capable of accurate shooting at night; stopping would be suicide.

Gao Yang was now almost certain that most of the vehicles pursuing him were off-road vehicles, and mounting bright lights on the roof was standard equipment for hunting vehicles.

This meant that these chasing vehicles were originally intended for hunting purposes.

If he had had his sniper rifle with him, Gao Yang would not have ended up in this predicament.

If those vehicles dared to approach this close, he would have picked off the enemy one by one with his rifle.

Unfortunately, he was not a clairvoyant sage; how could he have foreseen that a trip to the grasslands for a relaxing change of pace would turn into a full-blown battle?

Gao Yang felt he couldn’t keep running like this.

Without counterattacking, he would eventually be overtaken by the vehicles, or worse, hit by their continuous shots, like a hunted animal.

The two halted vehicles started moving again, quickly closing the distance.

However, the good news was that it was difficult to aim from a moving car, so the firing from the vehicles ceased as they began to move again.

Seeing the distance was now less than two hundred meters and the cars were not stopping, Gao Yang came to an abrupt halt, turned to stand in place, squinted against the blinding lights, and fired several shots towards the driver’s seat of one vehicle.

He then swiftly switched targets, firing seven shots at another vehicle, emptying the magazine.

Gao Yang dared to stand and shoot because the people in the cars could not aim accurately while moving, and the headlights from the two vehicles also illuminated his targets.

Gao Yang’s second round of firing finally had an effect.

One of the vehicles suddenly accelerated, heading straight for Gao Yang, while the other swerved erratically and came to a stop on the spot.

After quickly reloading a new magazine, Gao Yang dashed to the side.

He then watched the car charging directly at him, picking up speed and honking continuously, passing by less than thirty meters from him before continuing onwards.

Gao Yang, without hesitation, fired a barrage of bullets at the car as it sped past him.

He then chased after the speeding car, and although it pulled away from him, Gao Yang refused to give up.

The car must have been out of control, or it wouldn’t have charged past in such a manner, presenting an opportunity.

The grassland, while flat, was not without obstacles: termite mounds, trees, and the widely scattered wetlands left by the rainy season—all impeded the progress of vehicles.

At slow speeds, this wouldn’t have posed a problem, but at high speed, and with the car out of control, an accident seemed inevitable.

Gao Yang watched as the car, having sped past him, suddenly took to the air about three or four hundred meters ahead of him.

But before he could take any joy from this, he saw the car, which almost flipped over, somehow right itself back onto all four wheels and land on the ground.

Then, it took a turn and began to decelerate.

Gao Yang didn’t know if someone had taken control of the car or what had happened, but he had no time to think about it.

Noticing the car’s turn, Gao Yang changed direction and continued his pursuit.

Gao Yang had excellent endurance but relatively poorer sprinting ability.

He could run very far at a steady pace, but this explosive, full-speed running had him gasping for breath.

The situation was turning increasingly unfavorable, unless he could find an opportunity to reverse this disadvantage.

Without an opportunity, he’d have to create one, and the out-of-control car was just the chance he didn’t have.

If he could somehow take the car, his chances of escape would greatly increase.

The out-of-control car must have been regained control of, because it began to sway side to side in a serpentine maneuver, then slowed down.

Despite decelerating, Gao Yang estimated the car was still doing sixty kilometers per hour.

Then he watched the car avoid a large tree, proceed not much further, and come to an abrupt stop after a swift turn.

The car had truly stopped.

Gao Yang burst into a full sprint, while the cars behind him also accelerated.

Three cars passed to the left of Gao Yang and sped toward the stopped car.

Meanwhile, intermittent gunfire erupted from the car trailing him.

Gao Yang was nearly encircled by the cars, with the nearest less than a hundred meters away, and even the more distant cars only about a hundred meters more.

Gao Yang was still at least five hundred meters from the stopped vehicle, and it now seemed impossible to reach the stalled car before the enemy’s reinforcements arrived.

Gao Yang abruptly stopped and fired several shots at the two cars parallel to his right.

However, after being attacked, the cars on his right ignored the very close Gao Yang and accelerated, also heading straight for the stalled vehicle.

One car was stalled, and at least five cars rushed to its aid, while two more cars, one on each side of Gao Yang, maintained a relaxed pace about three hundred meters behind him, closing in slowly.

The two cars formed a triangle with Gao Yang, and the one directly behind him kept its headlights trained on him, the distance no more than a hundred meters.

Gao Yang felt he had no chance left.

The situation was like a cat playing with a mouse—the enemy was toying with him rather than trying to finish him off quickly.

A surge of fury blazed from Gao Yang’s chest to his forehead, and he made a bold decision.

Seeing most of the cars had gone to aid the stalled vehicle and only two remained behind him, Gao Yang suddenly turned around and charged directly at the following car.

If he couldn’t run, he wouldn’t.

He’d fight instead and leave the outcome to fate.

As Gao Yang ran towards the car that was originally behind him, the car continued to advance toward him.

The distance between them closed rapidly.

The car seemed not to have anticipated Gao Yang’s countercharge, and only seconds later, it swerved abruptly to the side and floored the throttle to widen the gap with Gao Yang.

But by then, the distance between them was less than fifty meters.

At less than fifty meters, Gao Yang had no reason to miss.

He stopped, raised his rifle, and after two long bursts of fire, the car, which hadn’t completed its turn, came to an abrupt halt.

Noticing the car stopping, Gao Yang continued to run forward and fired while moving.

After only two shots, he realized his magazine was empty.

Gao Yang quickly changed magazines while running and resumed firing.

The car’s headlights were no longer blinding Gao Yang, which significantly improved his shooting.

At that moment, someone inside the car shot at Gao Yang from the passenger seat, and another person got out of the rear door on Gao Yang’s other side.

But when someone opened the car door, the interior lights revealed the figures of two people inside.

Without stopping, Gao Yang merely slowed his pace and in five shots, he took down the person who had just managed to open the rear car door, then with only two bullets, he killed the shooter at the passenger seat.

By the time Gao Yang made it to the front of the car, he had killed everyone inside.

Meanwhile, the lagging car had almost caught up.

Realizing something was amiss, rapid gunfire rang out from that car, but by then, Gao Yang had already reached the other side of the vehicle and was protected by the car’s front end.

Gao Yang, having reached the other side of the car, immediately saw the person who had fallen at the rear door, wearing a white robe and a red-and-white checkered headscarf—a typical Arab outfit.

Most crucially, on the opened back seat, there lay a shotgun with night vision attached to the scope.
