284: Chapter 282: Injure, but do not kill.

Gao Yang was waiting for the observer to move into a position where he could take his shot, while also paying attention to the street below the window for any shootable targets.

He had been waiting for several minutes, but no opportunity had presented itself.

There were street barricades of the Mokadi Faction on the street, made of sandbags or broken cars, which provided decent protection.

Many buildings had also been directly converted into fortifications, manned by members of the Mokadi Faction.

Although they had fortifications, their will to fight was too weak, crumbling at the first sign of combat.

Most importantly, those from the Mokadi Faction looked like raggedy soldiers with not a single person resembling a boss in sight.

Since the Skull Gang’s first attack had been repelled, about fifteen minutes had passed.

Gao Yang could still hear the sound of artillery from the port area, clueless about the state of the Eighth Company entrusted with the landing mission.

But at that moment, Gao Yang considered himself just a sniper.

Other matters, he had neither the interest nor the ability to attend to.

“Fedor, if your old soul is watching over me from heaven, do me a favor, huh?

Give me a chance or stir up some noise or something.”

Gao Yang started to mutter to himself, regardless of whether he spoke in Chinese or if Fedor could understand, but soon Gao Yang became aware of this habit and shut his mouth to avoid making any more noise.

Gao Yang noticed that being on a prepared sniper mission was completely different from the psychological state of continually shooting targets from a position.

He was beginning to grow impatient, which was a fatal flaw for a sniper.

If it had been Cui Bo, he could have stayed motionless all day long, not even moving when he needed to urinate in his pants, without a hint of psychological hindrance.

Gao Yang began to feel that he was indeed not cut out to be a sniper.

Even though his marksmanship was good, definitely better than Cui Bo’s, in a mission that truly required sniper traits, his character flaws were exposed.

This sort of activity, lying in wait for an opportunity to shoot, was truly better suited for Cui Bo.

After a short period of forcing himself to stay still and silent, Gao Yang finally gave up.

It was making him feel restless, and talking to himself to ease the psychological pressure seemed a better option.

“Come on out, my friend, show yourself, let me gift you a bullet.

This is my first real sniper battle, and I don’t want to have any regrets.

So come on out, baby—ugh, ‘baby’—what a disgusting word.”

Gao Yang continued to mutter to himself in a voice so low he could barely hear it.

Since he couldn’t keep quiet, he might as well turn down the volume, perhaps considering it a peculiar habit.

After all, a true master without any quirks would be quite unseemly.

While spouting nonsense and reassuring himself that talking to himself wasn’t a big deal, and that it was just a small trick to relieve stress, he did find it beneficial.

Gao Yang was no longer anxious, and even his senses seemed keener.

The only downside to convincing himself was that his volume seemed to increase involuntarily.

Despite the nonsense, Gao Yang had not let down his vigilance at all.

He was ready to fire at any moment and ensure a hit.

If talking to himself were to distract him, it would be suicidal, and Gao Yang was not that foolish.

“Little bastard, if you don’t come out, I, your uncle, will hold even steadier.

Let’s see who can outlast whom.

Dammit, I refuse to believe you won’t take a peek this way.”

As Gao Yang cursed himself in a roundabout way, his heart suddenly skipped a beat, as if pricked by a needle, because the enemy’s bait finally appeared.

He saw a black man strolling his way, wearing a very white vest, waving a handgun around, not to mention, he was followed by four or five other people.

Even though the white vest couldn’t hide from Gao Yang’s bullets no matter how much he ducked and covered, its appearance on a battlefield with a known sniper, blatantly disclosing his difference from others, made Gao Yang feel it would be a disservice not to reward him with a bullet for such folly.

“Yee-haw, the kid’s got spunk, huh?

Think there’s no danger just because the Skull Gang hasn’t attacked, right?

Walking around with a gold chain like you’re the boss, huh?

Come a little closer, just a little more.

That’s right, don’t stop; keep walking, right under that window, make yourself a proper bait.”

With the turn of events and the bait revealed, Gao Yang became even more unreserved with his chattering.

He still kept his attention on the window, but the corners of his eyes were fixed on the white vest, who should at least be a leader.

Finally, when the white vest was about to reach the sniper’s window, he halted and talked quietly with someone by his side.

Gao Yang quickly analyzed the situation, confirming he could re-aim at the window before the enemy sniper could take his shot, and Gao Yang instantaneously swung his rifle around.

Swiveling the rifle’s muzzle, he fired, and the man in the white tank top fell at the sound, Gao Yang had swallowed the enemy’s bait, and now, he was the tantalizing bait for the enemy sniper.

Gao Yang swiveled the muzzle back as quickly as he could.

The enemy sniper’s muzzle hadn’t moved, which gave him a momentary sense of security, at least his safety was assured for now, then, he saw the front half of a scope dangling downwards.

The enemy wasn’t using the scope to observe, probably looking with the naked eye at the white tank top he had shot.

Next, the sniper rifle’s muzzle moved, getting closer to Gao Yang’s position, and then, a figure holding the scope looked over towards Gao Yang, at the same time, half of his body appeared in Gao Yang’s scope.

Gao Yang could have shot the observer’s heart, but in the moment before he fired, he lowered his muzzle and fired a shot that hit the observer in the thigh.

After shooting the observer in the thigh, Gao Yang moved the muzzle again, aiming at the sniper’s position.

By then, the observer had already fallen forwards, but Gao Yang couldn’t shoot the sniper.

The enemy observer had fallen, yet the sniper hadn’t managed to truly aim at Gao Yang, for that would require moving forward just a bit, but to get a shot at Gao Yang, Gao Yang was confident he could hit him first.

Realizing instantly that the enemy wouldn’t fire without moving, Gao Yang quickly moved his muzzle towards the one who had thrown himself onto the windowsill, his entire upper body now completely exposed under Gao Yang’s muzzle, and as the observer turned to fall, Gao Yang fired another shot.

Gao Yang could have easily blown the observer’s head off, but he aimed for the observer’s right arm resting on the windowsill instead, followed by another slight adjustment of the muzzle, getting ready to give the overeager sniper a shot.

Yet, although the sniper’s muzzle moved forward a bit, Gao Yang didn’t fire, knowing it was a feint.

The enemy sniper had placed his rifle on a rack and was shooting from a kneeling position.

Gao Yang was sure as long as the sniper didn’t move his head or anything visible to his sight, the enemy wouldn’t be able to fire, because to aim and then shoot, the enemy would at least need to bring his eye close to the back of the scope, not more than twenty centimeters away, and no further, and Gao Yang’s judgment was that if the enemy really brought his head to that position, he would have seen it by now.

In such moments, all decisions were instantaneous.

The observer was still leaning on the windowsill, not ducked away, and when hit repeatedly, the body’s reaction couldn’t keep up with the brain’s instructions, and of course, it was also possible that the observer’s brain was simply blank at that time.

Just as Gao Yang decided to shoot the observer, who was still leaning on the windowsill, in the groin area, he saw the sniper appear in his scope.

Therefore, Gao Yang immediately fired.

This time, however, he didn’t hit any of the enemy’s vital points; it was the sniper’s right arm that he hit.

Gao Yang had succeeded; he saw blood spurt from the sniper’s right arm and watched as he lost his balance, falling to the left.

As the sniper tried to roll backwards to evade, Gao Yang’s rifle sounded off for the fifth time.

His target again was the sniper’s right shoulder.

Once more ensuring a hit, and Gao Yang was also certain that both individuals were incapable of shooting or observing, so the enemy sniper team, although neither was dead, Gao Yang chose not to continue shooting.

The reason he avoided hitting the observer’s vital points and shot at his thigh instead was to take the chance to fire at the shooter when he tried to help the observer to safety.

When realizing that the observer had been hit and the shooter made no move to counterattack or assist the observer, Gao Yang continued to shoot.

He believed the shooter couldn’t endure forever, and despite knowing it was intentional, he had to find a way to save his comrade.

The shooter did indeed rush to help his comrade to safety, and he was forced to attempt a retaliatory shot, that’s when Gao Yang finally fired at him, successfully hitting his right arm.

Gao Yang shooting the shooter’s right arm was simply out of necessity, due to the fact that he fired as quickly as he could and dared not adjust to aim for the enemy shooter’s head.

But upon confirming that he had hit the shooter’s right arm, ensuring that the enemy shooter had at least temporarily lost the capability to fire, the second shot at the shooter’s right arm was intentional on Gao Yang’s part.

An injured soldier could cause the enemy more trouble than a dead one.

Gao Yang knew that the enemy Mercenary Group didn’t have many people and that if they were a strong mercenary force, they would certainly have at least some level of unity.

So after confirming that the enemy had lost their ability to fight, Gao Yang didn’t mind letting them live so that the enemy Mercenary Group would have to divide their already scarce manpower to take care of the two severely wounded men.

Watching the enemy observer finally turn over and tumble behind the window, the shooter moving out of sight, Gao Yang immediately said over the walkie-talkie, “I’ve taken down an enemy sniper team, severely injured, not killed, but I’ve ensured they have lost combat capability.

Right now I can’t confirm if they are the artillery observer, the enemy sniper team’s position is at the fourth target point I’ve marked, Toad, immediately organize personnel, assault from the street on this side of the fourth target point, push forward aggressively!” (To be continued.
