Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 282 - 282 280 The Sniper Rifle Shoots Through Walls
282: Chapter 280: The Sniper Rifle Shoots Through Walls 282: Chapter 280: The Sniper Rifle Shoots Through Walls Although the captured HK417 was a good rifle, Gao Yang was still not very comfortable using it.
The reason was simple; he had only fired a few rounds with the HK417’s ammunition and didn’t have the time or means to perform long-range ballistics testing.
Gao Yang could guarantee the accuracy of his M14EBR at a distance of 800 meters, but with the HK417, he had no confidence at all.
Gao Yang had never expected that one day he would really need to use the HK417 as a backup gun, so despite having the gun in his hands for quite some time, he had never made a specific effort to familiarize himself with it.
If Gao Yang had been given a few more days to get accustomed to it, he could have fully leveraged the power of the HK417.
But at present, he only dared to ensure accuracy within 600 meters; beyond that distance, the variation in the bullet trajectory was too great for him to be confident of hitting the target.
After calculating the distance, the black man hiding in the house was about 350 meters away.
At that distance, with the enemy remaining still, Gao Yang could fire at will—it would be embarrassing not to aim for a headshot.
After taking a casual aim, Gao Yang fired.
The bullet pierced through a windowpane and hit the black man who was prone in front of the window.
After confirming that the target was killed, Gao Yang immediately retreated, moving back to the doorway where he crouched down.
Then, with a gesture of his hand, he signaled Frey to leave after which he crouched near the door outside, observing the situation within the house.
No bullets came their way, nor did any shells or rockets.
Nothing at all.
It seemed the enemy had not noticed that a bullet had just been fired from this window.
After waiting for approximately two minutes, Gao Yang decided not to shift his position just yet, opting to stay and observe a little longer.
Gao Yang crouched on the ground and slowly approached the window.
When he was less than two meters away from it, he carefully raised his head and then quickly retracted it to ensure there was no reaction.
After confirming it was still safe, Gao Yang slowly raised his head again and continued observing his chosen target point through the scope.
He had just lifted the scope to his eyes and hadn’t had time to take a closer look when he felt a sudden unease.
Without hesitation, Gao Yang crouched down.
Although the move looked skittish and undignified, he wasn’t afraid of losing face; he was afraid of losing his life.
After quickly crouching down, Gao Yang waited for a while with no disturbances.
He chuckled self-deprecatingly before concluding he was just being overly anxious.
However, Gao Yang didn’t feel embarrassed as, ever since his sixth sense had saved his life on the beach, he had never dared ignore any unusual feelings.
Even if he was wrong a hundred times, even ten thousand times, what did it matter?
Losing face was better than losing life.
As long as his instinct was right even once, it meant he had gained an extra life.
After hiding for a while, Gao Yang slowly stood up, but he still felt uncomfortable.
So, he immediately crouched down again and, still feeling unsure, he quickly moved to the side, planning to abandon the uncomfortable room and find another shooting position next door.
Just as Gao Yang had crouched down and was leaning to the side about to move, two loud bangs sounded almost simultaneously.
His vision blurred, and the bridge of his nose throbbed with pain from the impact of his ballistic glasses, as if he had taken a hard punch.
Gao Yang fell to the ground and then quickly crawled towards the doorway, keeping low.
The enemy sniper had fired, using a heavy-caliber sniper rifle.
They hadn’t failed to notice where he had fired from, they were just waiting for him to show himself again.
Confirming Gao Yang’s position and that he wouldn’t expose too much of himself, the enemy sniper had chosen to shoot through the wall.
A 20-centimeter-thick brick wall was nothing to a 12.7mm caliber sniper rifle; Gao Yang’s sixth sense had saved him again.
If he hadn’t dodged quickly, the wall-piercing shot could have been fatal.
As the bullets traversed the brick wall, they brought a shower of brick and cement debris with them, leaving a large mark beneath the wall on the left side of the room.
Gao Yang’s glasses were now obscured, and coupled with the impact to his nose, tears and mucus uncontrollably streamed down his face.
Gao Yang took off his glasses, wiped his tears and mucus with his sleeve, then hurriedly put them back on.
After gesturing to Frey, who had run to the door in shock, to leave, Gao Yang stayed by the door to assess the angle and mark on the wall made by the enemy’s shot.
By comparing them, he quickly confirmed that the enemy had fired at the exact point he had predicted; the location was undoubtedly correct.
After determining the enemy’s firing position, Gao Yang whispered, “Rabbit, the enemy has a heavy-caliber sniper rifle.
I almost got killed by a wall-piercing shot.
We must fire and move, no room for complacency; that’s an order!”
“Understood, Brother Yang.
Are you all right?”
“I’m fine, continue the search.
Over.”
After warning Cui Bo, Gao Yang waved his hand at Frey, looking tense, “Let’s go, we can’t stay here.
We need to move, fast!”
Frey pointed at Gao Yang’s arm, saying, “You’re hurt.”
Gao Yang looked at his left arm; there was a tear in his clothes and blood seeping out.
It wasn’t from a bullet wound but a graze from flying debris.
The injury didn’t seem serious, and he wouldn’t have even noticed it if Frey hadn’t mentioned it.
After examining the wound and ensuring it was nothing serious, Gao Yang exclaimed urgently, “Don’t worry about it, we need to move, now.”
Gao Yang couldn’t help but be anxious because the enemy sniper could likely be relocating to another shooting position, and he needed to make his shot quickly.
With Frey in tow, he weaved through the alleys, passing several flat houses without courtyards, until Gao Yang spotted a small building with its gate open.
He looked up, deemed the height sufficient, and immediately darted inside.
Upon entering the lobby on the first floor, he saw two women and four or five children of various sizes cowering in a corner of a room without a door, looking at him and Frey in terror.
“We won’t hurt you, there’s no need to be afraid.”
After saying a phrase in Somali that he had specifically learned, Gao Yang had nothing else to say, so he pointed upward, made a walking gesture with his fingers, and gestured that he needed to go to the second floor.
A woman, trembling with fear, came out and led Gao Yang to a corner where he then saw the staircase.
After thanking her, he quickly rushed up the stairs.
All the doors on the second floor were closed but not locked, merely fastened with damaged doors.
Gao Yang didn’t dare to barge in recklessly because there could be people inside, and in Somalia, where nearly everyone had a gun, Gao Yang didn’t want to get shot unexpectedly.
“Don’t be afraid, we won’t hurt you, don’t shoot,” he repeated.
After blurting out a few more words, Gao Yang leaned against the wall behind him and pushed the door open.
As soon as he did, an angry male voice erupted from inside.
The Skull Gang’s numbers were too few to completely clear the areas they controlled.
In fact, even with sufficient manpower, it would be impossible to eliminate all dangers.
Gao Yang, consumed by urgency, could only shout patiently, “We won’t harm you, we are fighting against Mokadi, don’t shoot or come out.
If you don’t come out, we will attack!”
After spitting out a few sentences he had learned that could be useful, several shouts came from inside the room, and then a woman with a child about four or five years old exited, looking terrified.
After seeing Gao Yang and Frey, she carefully led the child past them and downstairs.
After the woman went down, she yelled out loudly.
Following the woman’s shouts, sounds resembling wood striking the floor emerged from the room, and then a man with only one leg, using a wooden stick as a crutch, and holding a loaded AKM with the muzzle pointing downwards, walked out.
Seeing that the man’s muzzle was pointing down, Gao Yang and Frey did not aim their guns at the one-legged man.
Hearing no more sounds in the room, Gao Yang nodded to the man and then said to Frey, “Let’s have this man help us clear out the rooms on the second floor.”
After that, Gao Yang immediately slipped into the room, which wasn’t too dirty or messy but had an unbearable stench.
Fortunately, there was a small window but it was placed high, so Gao Yang could only observe while standing.
Using his binoculars, Gao Yang saw that there was no sign of the enemy sniper at the position where he had been shot at.
If the enemy wasn’t hiding extremely well, then they had already left.
Gao Yang immediately moved his binoculars to another target point he had determined, which was very close to where the shots had been fired.
If the enemy were moving positions, it was highly likely they’d go there.
Gao Yang was searching for every factor to his advantage, with sunlight being the first thing he considered.
The time was just after ten, and the sun had not yet reached its highest point, with a slight angle.
Gao Yang’s position faced north with his back to the south, while the enemy’s was facing directly into the sun.
But unfortunately, Bosaso was so close to the Equator that the angle of the sunlight was almost vertical, causing negligible impact on the enemy’s vision, so the sunlight provided limited assistance to Gao Yang.
“Come out quickly, I know you’re here, you can’t run, if you didn’t kill me, I’ll have to kill you, come out quickly, buddy, come out for me,” Gao Yang muttered to himself, scanning for the enemy sniper’s hiding spot with his binoculars.
Just when he was getting nowhere and starting to shift his gaze, he suddenly noticed a faint glint of light flashing from a windowsill he hadn’t been paying much attention to.
Seeing the fleeting glint, Gao Yang immediately shifted his gaze back.
