Chapter 1383: Chapter 1,365: Benefit Fee

Gao Yang wants to buy planes, Selin wants to sell planes, so of course, Selin has to listen to Gao Yang’s proposal.

Selin gestured for him to proceed, then said in a deep voice, "I’m interested to hear your plan."

Gao Yang cleared his throat and then said in a deep voice, "Both you and I know that buying forty planes at once is a very high risk."

Selin nodded and said, "Yes, the risk is high, but there’s risk in everything. It’s just about whether the benefits and risks are proportionate. I think getting forty planes for ten million dollars is a deal worth any risk."

Gao Yang smiled and said, "You’re right, but the problem is that my risk is not just from India; it’s about the payment method. Ten million dollars for forty planes is indeed not expensive, but if I hand over the money and can’t get the planes, or if I only receive one or two planes and the rest are unattainable, what about my losses?"

Selin stated firmly, "That won’t happen."

"No, it could very likely happen. Who can guarantee that everything is under control? Can you guarantee that no issues will arise?"

After Gao Yang said that indifferently, Selin shook his head and directly said, "Say how you want to do the transaction, just lay it out plainly."

"Very simple, ten million for forty planes, that’s two hundred and fifty thousand US dollars per plane. I request to pay in installments. I will pay for each plane as I take it."

Gao Yang wanted this batch of planes, but he didn’t want them all.

Selin laughed and shook his head, "Your request is impossible to fulfill. I’ve said that this transaction must be paid fully in one go, partial payments and transactions are out of the question."

Gao Yang sighed with a face full of regret, "If you insist on this, then the business can’t proceed. And believe me, besides me, no one else will be willing to do it. Think about it, India’s a big spender in the arms market. What major arms dealer would lose the market in India for merely a few dozen old, worthless An-32s? Buddy, it’s just that I’ve never dealt with India, which makes me interested and daring enough to venture on taking this batch of planes originally meant for India."

Selin was silent for a moment and eventually shook his head, "No, I’m sorry, this business isn’t something I can decide on my own. The money isn’t just taken by me alone; I can’t agree to a piecemeal transaction. I can’t decide by myself either."

After Selin spoke, he suddenly said, "Think of it this way: for ten million, you get forty planes. Okay, even if something unexpected happens and you don’t get all the planes, but if you get half or even a third of them, this business would still be highly profitable for you!"

Selin was right, if this deal disregards the risk factors, getting just two planes wouldn’t mean a loss; three planes would bring a profit, and getting all forty would mean huge profits.

Forty planes at a package price of ten million isn’t expensive anyway, but for Gao Yang, the problem lies in this package price.

Selin must get ten million in one lump sum, and then Gao Yang can drive away the planes. The reason Selin can sell like this is that the planes don’t belong to him. He along with a few people behind the scenes can sell at any price, needing only to bear some costs of risk without spending a penny, just like a thief selling stolen goods cheaply, because the things weren’t theirs in the first place—selling at any price is gaining for nothing.

But for Gao Yang, though the price of ten million isn’t high, once Selin sells the planes, he’s done. All the risks then rest with Gao Yang. Just for taking a risk, he can’t pay in full upfront unless it’s post-delivery payment, which is impossible.

Gao Yang can’t agree to Selin’s conditions, so he must come up with a mutually acceptable solution.

Gao Yang spoke very gently, "You’re right, but if I have to take such a risk, I certainly don’t want to pay the money and yet not receive my planes. So my proposal is I pay for each plane as I take it, which is fair to both of us."

Selin sighed and said, "That’s impossible."

Gao Yang smiled and said, "Don’t rush to reject it just yet. Let me finish. I’d like to know if you have the decision-making power in this deal? If you do, how much of a stake do you have in this transaction?"

Selin looked at Gao Yang, then slowly said, "I need to discuss with two other people. As I said, this business isn’t just mine. Completing this transaction requires coordination from many people on many aspects, so there are many places to distribute the money. If it’s too little, it’s impossible to complete the deal. As to your other question, I don’t get much out of this deal, about a million dollars at most, given so many people are sharing the pie."

Gao Yang snapped his fingers and laughed, "You see, things are actually very simple. Let’s change the mode of transaction. If we price per unit, I’ll raise your price. The current price is two hundred and fifty thousand per unit, but I’ll raise it to three hundred thousand. If you think selling per unit ground is too little, we can settle per batch, say five planes per batch. I’ll pay for five planes first, and after those planes are taken away, I’ll pay for the next batch. Furthermore..."

Gao Yang lowered his head a little, lowered his voice, and smiled, "Furthermore, I have another transaction proposal, which involves a kickback. We usually call this a rebate."

Selin furrowed his brow and said, "Rebate?"

Gao Yang said leisurely, "Look, you can only get up to a million in this deal, right? Why don’t we do this: I’ll give you five hundred thousand US dollars. You discuss with your partners about selling according to my terms: twenty-five thousand per plane, settling payments with each delivery. This way, you’ll still get your share, plus an extra. How do you like the idea?"

The mention of a rebate, a major temptation, immediately unsettled Selin. He looked at Kucher, who simply smiled with encouragement and whispered, "My friend, you’re doing all the legwork in this deal yet can only take a million. Follow Peter’s plan, and you instantly get fifty thousand. Believe me, you’ll get fifty thousand right away. What is there to hesitate about?"

Selin took a sip from his beer bottle and then placed it down, speaking to Gao Yang in a deep voice, "Single unit transactions are indeed hard to say, how about ten units per batch?"

Gao Yang shook his head and then said in a low voice, "I can only accept five units per batch, at most five. Here’s the deal, you get the single unit price down to twenty thousand for me, five units per batch. If it’s possible, I’ll pay you one million in goods payment upfront, and another one million just for you, your very own!"

Gao Yang sweetened the deal, raising the personal amount for Selin from fifty thousand to one million, but if this condition passed, he could save two million in total transaction costs, of course, based on taking all forty planes.

Gao Yang just wanted to first quote high, waiting for Selin to bargain. If Selin couldn’t offer a lower plane price, buying at the original price was still acceptable. Originally priced like dirt, what cheaper price could you expect, right?

And for Selin, hearing Gao Yang’s conditions put him in a real dilemma, yet he didn’t hurry to express any position on the unit price; he just frowned in deep thought. At this moment, Gao Yang thought for a bit, then once more delivered a major knock-out offer.

"Oh, I could also do something for you. If this transaction happens, I’ll send you to America, safely to America. You can bring your whole family along if you wish, as long as you can fulfill my conditions to close the deal. Are you interested?"

Selin suddenly raised his head and said through gritted teeth, "Will you guarantee to fulfill your promise!"

Gao Yang smiled, "In our line of work, credibility is always number one. If I promise something, I definitely see it through."

Kucher also laughed, "That’s right, Selin, you should have no doubt about Peter’s credibility. Do you not trust me?"

Selin let out a breath and then quickly said in a low voice, "Alright! Twenty thousand per plane, five units per batch. That’s the deal. I’ll go to discuss it now; once it’s done, you fulfil your promise."

Gao Yang held out his hand and smiled, "Deal!"

After shaking hands with Gao Yang, Selin got up in a hurry and said to Gao Yang and Kucher, "I have to go. You guys chat, and wait for my good news."

Selin left in a rush, and after he was gone, Gao Yang laughed heartily with Kucher, "Old friend, I must thank you for introducing this deal to me. If it goes through, it really is quite a nice business."

Kucher also laughed, "We’re friends, just helping each other out."

Gao Yang patted Kucher’s shoulder and laughed, "Thanks for your help, but I can’t let you work for nothing. Here’s the deal, if the business succeeds, I’ll give you a ten-thousand-dollar introduction fee."

Just running an errand, making a call, and saying a few words for ten thousand bucks, Kucher couldn’t be more satisfied; he should be extremely pleased.

Kucher laughed loudly and said, "Then I wish you business success."

Gao Yang then turned his head to Eileen and said, "Give me the thing."

Eileen handed Gao Yang a block wrapped in a black plastic bag. Gao Yang took it and placed it on the table, pushing it toward Kucher and smiling, "Here’s ten thousand. Whether this business succeeds or not, I have to thank you."

Kucher was very surprised, "Giving it to me now?"

Gao Yang smiled and then said in a low voice, "Don’t be polite. Besides thanking you for linking me up, I also have something I want to consult you about."
