Chapter 1380: Chapter One Thousand Three Hundred Sixty-Two: Part-Time Job

The meeting with Rebrov and Voronin wasn’t exactly successful, but it wasn’t a complete failure either. Although nothing was said with Kofupake, Gao Yang still felt something was off because Rebrov’s attitude changed too quickly.

From being angry about Kofupake selling missiles privately to being all jovial after receiving the money, Gao Yang felt Rebrov’s attitude change was a bit abrupt. Even if he received a large sum of money, his anger seemed to dissipate a bit too quickly.

If his anger hadn’t actually dissipated but he pretended otherwise, it could only mean he was hiding it on purpose. The consequence might be that he’s preparing to strike back at the right moment, which should be the normal reaction of most people.

Gao Yang felt Rebrov was problematic, yet he handed over the money without hesitation because he hoped to solve a big issue with a small sum of money.

Satan came to Ukraine to make money, to do business, not to fight. Offending Rebrov would be very disadvantageous for continuing business thereafter.

Whether or not they could quell Rebrov’s anger or even hostility, Gao Yang wasn’t sure, but at this point, he couldn’t turn back. Anyway, he’d already made a profit in Ukraine, so leaving now wouldn’t necessarily mean a loss.

When Gao Yang asked Kofupake to take him to see Rebrov, the missiles were already loaded onto the ship. However, claiming the ship had left the Black Sea was pure nonsense, just Gao Yang bluffing. In reality, if the ship left the port of Odessa, it was good enough, and Kofupake left for his flight right after taking Gao Yang to see his former superior, Rebrov.

Gao Yang felt that meeting Rebrov was actually a mess, and he was a bit too hasty.

Kofupake was eager to leave Ukraine, and Gao Yang was anxious to move on to the next business deal, so he was impatient to meet with Rebrov. The overly smooth business in the unfamiliar arms trade made him simplify the matter.

"This is a lesson; I was too impatient, leading to a wrong decision. I should have been steadier. This rushed meeting with Rebrov put us in unnecessary danger, a very foolish mistake."

Gao Yang felt a bit of self-reproach in his tone. After speaking, he sighed and said, "I’m just worried about what trouble Rebrov might cause us."

Li Jinfang said gravely, "You can’t be blamed, it’s Kofupake who strongly assured us that as long as we gave Rebrov enough money, there’d be no problem."

Gao Yang shook his head and said, "No, that’s not right. Kofupake can say whatever he wants, but I can’t listen carelessly. If we had waited till our ship entered the Black Sea Strait before looking for Rebrov, we wouldn’t be this passive now. I worry Rebrov might take measures to intercept our ship. We delivered the goods through Major Kucher, and it’s no secret that the goods are loaded onto that ship, and it can’t be kept secret."

Eileen said gravely, "Not necessarily, maybe the money did really move Rebrov. Anyway, you shouldn’t be blamed for this."

At this moment, Number Thirteen suddenly said, "Why let Kofupake leave?"

Gao Yang exhaled and said, "He has a flight to catch. According to the plan, he could leave Ukraine after the goods were loaded on the ship. I mean, don’t blame Kofupake; his intentions were good. If he had taken the money and said nothing, the problem wouldn’t have arisen, or at least, it could have been delayed. But ultimately, Kofupake meant well, and we shouldn’t blame him for that."

Number Thirteen nodded, but then he said, "It doesn’t matter if he’s gone; we can find him anytime we want, and getting rid of him wouldn’t take much effort."

Gao Yang laughed, "You guys are always thinking about killing. This is business. As long as we’re not sure Kofupake is screwing us over, we can’t just kill the guy. What would that be? But whatever the result, Kofupake had good intentions. Since he meant well, we can’t just kill him because things got messed up."

Number Thirteen shook his head and said, "You’re too soft-hearted, not like a mercenary at all."

Gao Yang laughed, "Hey, adapt to our new identities. We’re businessmen now, businessmen. Since we’re changing professions, we can’t always operate with a mercenary mindset."

Eileen widened her eyes and said in surprise, "What? We’re changing professions now?"

Gao Yang laughed, "Part-time, let’s consider it part-time. Love what you do. Even if part-time, we need to be dedicated, so now we’re arms dealers, not mercenaries."

Li Jinfang chuckled a few times and then said to Gao Yang, "So what’s with this Kucher? There won’t be any problems from his side too, right?"

Gao Yang pondered for a moment and shook his head, "Probably not. I think Kucher sincerely wants to introduce business to us. Everyone’s happy working together, the future looks bright, and he has no reason to harm us."

Eileen said gravely, "Then what do we do? Rebrov seems problematic to me too. Should we make some protective preparations?"

Gao Yang nodded and said, "We must make some preparations. Tell Yake to stay vigilant and keep the house secure, and notify Big Dog to be cautious on their way back. As for our cargo ship, we can’t control it, but we should still give a reminder. If anything seems off, retreat immediately."

Number Thirteen said coldly, "If Rebrov really plans to harm us, I’ll take him out."

Gao Yang said cheerfully, "That works. We’re here for business, not to get angry. But if someone messes with us, we can’t just be harmless little rabbits. Our attitude needs to be tough, and necessary reactions are a must. If anyone messes with us, we’ll take them out."

Number Thirteen said gravely, "We know all of Rebrov’s details. I’ll leave shortly; you guys head back on your own. I need to prepare, and I’m planning to monitor him. If Rebrov makes any move, I’ll strike first and take him out."

Gao Yang laughed, "Our business dealings are overly aggressive, but your idea is good. Go ahead, tap Rebrov’s calls, and monitor his every move. If he wants to do business with us, then all is well. If he wants to cross us, take him out and we’ll pull back."

Eileen suddenly said, "Let’s warn him first, intimidate him, so Rebrov won’t even dare to think of resisting us. How about that?"

Gao Yang thought for a bit and shook his head, "No, that’s not good. Doing that to a business partner isn’t business, right? Better to monitor secretly."

At this moment, Number Thirteen suddenly said, "We’re here, Kucher is waiting for us ahead."

Gao Yang smiled and said, "Great, let’s see if there’s a big business waiting for us this time. I have a hunch that Major Kucher will really introduce us to a big deal." (To be continued.
