Chapter 1374: Chapter 1,357: Clue
"Wait! Wait! Don’t speak, I’m at home, wait until I lie down on the bed!"
After Morgan inexplicably said this, Gao Yang heard the sound of running from the phone, and after a while, Morgan gasped and said, "Ok, I’m on the bed now, you can tell me what good stuff you found."
Gao Yang curiously said, "Morgan, when did you become so humorous?"
"Humorous? No, this is not humor. Every time I’m lying in bed and you call, it’s always good news that I want to hear, so I hope this time is the same. That’s why I need to lie down before hearing what you have to say. It’s like a sacred ritual. Alright, you can speak."
Gao Yang lightly coughed, laughed, and said, "I found some shotguns for you, all pretty good, five in total. Oh, among them is one I have never seen before. The barrel is made of patterned steel, the kind with designs on it."
"Oh, Damascus gun barrel, such guns are all high-end products. First, forge iron blocks into iron strips about two inches thick, then roll the iron strips on a mandrel and weld them into the barrel; the process is quite cumbersome. In the 19th century, the British used this method to make guns. But after polishing, these barrels have beautiful patterns, called Damascus gun barrels. Such guns are definitely top-class, definitely good stuff. Is there a name on the gun? If there is, it’s a famous gunsmith’s work."
Gao Yang laughed and said, "Yes, Isenthal Reed, sounds like a British name. You can verify it slowly later."
Morgan laughed loudly and said, "See, I knew it would be good stuff. I have a hard time buying excellent collectibles, and you always manage to find them. It’s such a magical thing, that’s why I really need to lie down before answering your calls, keep this ritual to avoid ruining your luck."
Gao Yang laughed and said, "Give it a rest, you can’t buy good stuff because antique guns are not priced high. Collectors rarely sell the true masterpieces; after all, those who play with such things are all wealthy. As for me, I rely on taking them, whether they are willing or not; this is why I can get good guns and you can’t."
Morgan smiled wryly and said, "This time too, it’s taken?"
Gao Yang said seriously, "Yes, taken again, taken from a thief. Listen, besides a few good guns, I’ve found another clue. You better note it down and help me check it."
Morgan immediately perked up, shouted, "Yes, yes, that’s it, clues, having clues is good! Wait a moment, let me grab a pen to jot it down. Tell me, what clue did you find?"
Gao Yang pondered for a moment and said solemnly, "You gave me a list before; Simon has already visited all the notable antique gun collectors in Ukraine, but I found one not on the list."
When Morgan sent Simon to Ukraine to find the gun, Simon visited almost all the collectors in Ukraine. Unfortunately, the gun wasn’t found, nor were any clues found. But it wasn’t entirely fruitless; it ruled out many people having the gun’s possibility. Finding something, sometimes the elimination method is quite important.
Morgan urgently said, "You found a collector not on the list?"
Gao Yang extended his hand; after Eileen put the small notebook into his hand, he looked at it and said, "Yes, named Oleg Yonov, around forty in ’91. During the Soviet era, he was a teacher at Kyiv University. Shortly after the Soviet Union dissolved, he moved away, taking his whole family to America. If he’s in America, it’ll be easy for you to check; hurry up and see if you can find this person."
After a moment of silence, Morgan laughed and said, "Good, good, Oleg Yonov, this person is indeed not on Simon’s list. This is a useful clue, I’ll check on him immediately. So, what kind of collection does this person have? Is he a major collector?"
Gao Yang laughed and said, "It’s a bit complicated. A little thief stole many excellent items and sold two guns to this collector. I can guarantee they are top-class, although the gun he sold wasn’t the one you are looking for, but Oleg Yonov is an active collector, no doubt about it. You’d better check, maybe there will be more to gain. Also, I’m still investigating from whom the thief took the guns because the unlucky victim’s collection is really too valuable."
Morgan laughed, "Oh, how valuable?"
After a brief silence, Gao Yang solemnly said, "Aside from the Damascus gun barrel shotgun I can confidently mention, there are two pistols. There is ample evidence indicating they were used by Pushkin for a duel."
After a sharp intake of breath, Morgan murmured, "Gao, you are truly a lucky guy!"
Gao Yang just laughed, and after a moment, Morgan cautiously said, "Gao, how do you plan to handle those pistols?"
Gao Yang said without hesitation, "Don’t get any ideas, I’m going to keep them, personally, lock them up tightly!"
Morgan sighed and said, "Alright, that’s the right choice."
Gao Yang solemnly said, "Send someone to Kiev to bring your shotguns back, and help me bring the pistols too. I won’t sleep well if they stay here, Morgan. Let’s get this straight, you can admire my pistols, but I won’t be gifting them to you."
Morgan laughed, "It’s nice enough to admire them. Also, since you found some clues, do you need me to send someone to help? How about having Simon follow up on the clues?"
After thinking for a moment, Gao Yang said seriously, "Forget it, it’s just a small clue right now; there’s no need for Simon to come. I can easily handle it. Wait till useful clues are found, and then it wouldn’t be too late to send someone."
Morgan sighed and said, "True, it’s better for you to handle this alone. My people keep running into dead ends, I know their capability, if they haven’t found anything, it’s definitely not a capability issue, just pure luck problem. If I send more people, it might ruin your luck further. Gao, I leave all hopes on you, count on you. If there’s any discovery here, I’ll call you immediately."
After discussing a few more details, Gao Yang hung up the phone, grinned at the box for a while, chatted with Eileen and the others for a bit, then carried the box back to his bedroom.
Gao Yang placed the box at his bedside, intended to sleep but was too excited to do so. Not until dawn broke did he finally fall into a restful slumber.
It was nearly noon when Gao Yang woke up, and he was woken by the ringing phone.
It was Shava calling; once Gao Yang answered, Shava joyfully said, "Bro, my cousin has sent his wife and kids away and is very happy, extremely happy. It’s a beautiful job. He wants me to tell you that you’ll meet here at 3 PM, then head together to meet his colleague in transportation. If all goes well, we’ll start shipping tonight."
Gao Yang, surprised, asked, "So soon?"
It was decided the night before, and Kofupake sent his family away the next morning. It seemed remarkably quick.
Shava laughed, "Kofupake didn’t sleep, he checked flight schedules last night and booked tickets. Luckily, there’s a flight to America, though with a layover in Ireland, it’s the soonest available. I’ve already helped send his family away this morning."
Gao Yang laughed, "Very good, everything’s going smoothly. We’ll meet at noon, I’ll come to your place early."
After hanging up the phone, Gao Yang dressed, but when he was about to leave, he hesitated at the sight of the box. He decided to take it along after pondering for a while.
Summoning everyone together, Gao Yang cheerfully announced, "We’ve made good progress. I’m going to meet someone this afternoon, and if everything goes well, we’ll start shipping tonight. The goods will reach the port by tomorrow. I’ve contacted Little Donnie; the ship isn’t a problem. Our first deal will soon be sealed."
Cui Bo pointed at the box Gao Yang was holding and curiously asked, "What’s the treasure? Can’t bear to put it down?"
Gao Yang lovingly caressed the box and said, "The stuff inside is truly a treasure, a great treasure. I’m not comfortable leaving it at home, but I can’t keep carrying it. Those not going out this afternoon should keep a close watch on this box."
Andy He laughed, "Afraid someone would steal it away?"
Gao Yang nodded, "I am really worried about theft. This stuff was stolen to begin with, twice actually, so you must keep an eye on this box. Also, don’t open it casually. There are antiques inside, antiques! Be careful if you want to look; if anyone damages the papers inside, I’ll personally deal with them."
After Gao Yang finished, Frey frowned and asked, "Boss, are we staying home, not going out? Would it be too risky for only a few of us to go? Shouldn’t we tag along just in case?"
Gao Yang laughed, "We’re here for business, not a mission, there won’t be any danger."
Glolov shook his head and said, "Don’t be careless, stay cautious."
Gao Yang nodded and said, "We can’t be careless; however, this afternoon is just meeting someone for business. Having too many people isn’t suitable. It’ll be me, Toad, and Eileen, oh, and let Number Thirteen drive. If everything’s settled in the afternoon, we’ll start shipping by night. Then we can all go together for the transport and avoid any issues." (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, visit Qidian (qidian.com) for recommendation votes, monthly tickets.
