Chapter 1339: Chapter 1322: Heart’s Blood

The phone call came out of the blue, but Gao Yang’s heart suddenly tightened.

No matter who left the inheritance, Gao Yang didn’t want it, because it meant someone had died, and it was definitely someone he knew.

“Whose inheritance? I mean, whose inheritance was left!”

Gao Yang paused for a moment, allowing his blank mind to return to consciousness, then immediately asked the question he was most concerned about.

“Mr. Gao, before I answer your question, I must first confirm that the person on the other end of the phone is the one I’m looking for. I’ll ask you a few questions, none of which will involve your privacy, then we can continue our conversation, okay?”

The lawyer indeed only asked two simple questions, which were Gao Yang’s full name and the country he was from. After Gao Yang answered, the lawyer immediately said, “Alright, Mr. Gao, I can confirm your identity now. I apologize for needing to ask you these questions first because I’ve been trying to reach this number for a long time but couldn’t get through, so I had to make sure the phone number hadn’t changed owners.”

Gao Yang impatiently said, “Enough nonsense! Tell me who left me the inheritance!”

“Unfortunately, I have to inform you that Mr. Federer has passed away.”

Gao Yang was stunned because he didn’t even remember who Federer was at first. He didn’t think anyone in America would leave him an inheritance, so his first reaction was that the call was a mistake. But once the other party confirmed it wasn’t a mistake, he began to think it was a scam because after considering countless possibilities, he couldn’t figure out who would leave him an inheritance.

So when Gao Yang heard the name Federer, he was indeed surprised. The collector of Mauser pistols, whom he’d only met once and with whom he’d only done a single transaction, how could he leave an inheritance to him.

“Hello, are you listening? Hello? Hello?”

Gao Yang was completely bewildered, his mind in chaos. After a moment, upon hearing the voice on the other end of the phone, Gao Yang came to his senses and softly said, “Hello, I’m listening. When did Mr. Federer pass away?”

“Mr. Federer unfortunately passed away in the early hours of February 23 due to a sudden cerebral hemorrhage at his home in Los Angeles. Before he passed away, Mr. Federer had already drafted his will, deciding that you would inherit his entire gun collection.”

Gao Yang took the phone away from his ear, feeling a bit breathless, tugging at his throat. After taking a few deep breaths, he picked up the phone again and said in a trembling voice, “Mr. Federer’s health was very good. How could he suddenly pass away?”

“On the 21st, Federer was visiting a convention center to assess spaces and unexpectedly fell. He briefly lost consciousness and was taken to a community hospital. After Mr. Federer regained consciousness, doctors examined him and believed his health was not seriously compromised, merely advising him to rest at home.

After returning home, Mr. Federer called our law firm, requesting to draft his will under the witness of a will lawyer. As Mr. Federer’s will lawyer, I witnessed the entire process of Mr. Federer personally writing his handwritten will and was responsible for safeguarding it. After Mr. Federer’s unfortunate passing, I am responsible for executing the will.

On the morning of the third day after drafting the will, when Mr. Federer woke up, he fell to the ground and never awoke again. The cause of death was a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Gao, I’m sorry to inform you of this unfortunate news. I wanted to inform you on the day of Mr. Federer’s passing, but unfortunately, I couldn’t reach you.”

Gao Yang cleared his throat and slowly said, “It truly is unfortunate news. I’m sorry I couldn’t attend Mr. Federer’s funeral. I’ve been abroad recently. Thank you for notifying me.”

“Mr. Gao, if you plan to inherit Mr. Federer’s estate, you need to come to Los Angeles to complete the inheritance procedures. If you decide to relinquish the inheritance, you’ll also need to come to Los Angeles. Do you have time?”

Gao Yang sighed and said solemnly, “You said Mr. Federer fell while assessing a space. May I ask what space he was assessing? Was it for hosting a gun exhibition?”

“Yes, the fall while assessing the space was the direct cause of Mr. Federer’s death. He already had signs of a cerebral hemorrhage, but regrettably, the hospital failed to detect it. When I witnessed Mr. Federer drafting his will, he said he felt his time was limited and needed to find the most suitable person to take over his collection urgently. He chose you, Mr. Gao. Mr. Federer said he hoped you would inherit his estate and cherish his lifetime effort of assembling his collection. He saw you as the best heir.”

Gao Yang slowly said, “I accept Mr. Federer’s estate.”

“Alright, Mr. Gao, do you have time to come to Los Angeles? It’s best if we schedule in advance.”

“Tomorrow, I will go tomorrow.”

After hanging up the phone, Gao Yang’s face was gloomy. Strictly speaking, he didn’t have a deep relationship with Federer, it was merely a brief encounter—an unlikely friendship bonded by shared interests. Yet, Federer’s death still made him very uncomfortable, extremely uncomfortable.

Morgan quickly strode over, concern etched on his face, and softly said, “What’s wrong?”

Gao Yang shook his head and sighed, “An unfortunate news, Mr. Federer passed away.”

Looking at Morgan’s somewhat confused expression, before he could ask, Gao Yang immediately said in a deep voice, “It’s Mr. Federer, who collects Mauser pistols. We have been to his house.”

Morgan suddenly remembered and said, “I didn’t think of it for a moment. Oh, this is really unfortunate news.”

Gao Yang sighed and said, “Mr. Federer left me an inheritance; he gave me all his collection.”

Morgan was stunned, and after a moment, exclaimed in surprise, “All of it?”

“All of it.”

Morgan was dazed for a moment and then said in a low voice, “This really is quite unexpected for me, but, as a collector, I can understand Mr. Federer’s feelings. No one wants their painstakingly accumulated collection to be sold and scattered worldwide after their death. In this respect, Mr. Federer found himself a pretty good successor.”

Gao Yang sighed and said, “I’m going to Los Angeles tomorrow.”

“Alright, go tomorrow. Well, if I have nothing going on, I’ll accompany you. But for now, Gao, cheer up, don’t let this bad news affect you. See him over there? That’s Andrew Quincy Adams.”

Gao Yang took a few deep breaths, rubbed his face, and after putting on a smile, said to Morgan, “Is it okay now?”

Morgan nodded, shrugged, and said, “The smile looks a bit ugly, a bit fake. Alright, compose yourself; you have important work to do.”

Gao Yang saw Andrew, the key person he needed to contact on this visit.

Andrew looked to be in his forties or fifties, his smile was full of sincerity, and he was talking to the person next to him. Unlike other guests, he seemed rather restrained when he smiled.

Gao Yang rubbed his face again, then put on a smile, and said to Morgan, “Mr. Adams seems very humble.”

Morgan smiled and said, “He has to be humble because everyone here could be his financial backer, helping him campaign for the position he desires, but they might also choose to support others. Buddy, everyone here may seem like a redneck, but that doesn’t mean they really are. In another setting, you would see the business elites and big shots. Good, your smile is much more natural this time, keep it up.”

Gao Yang raised the bottle and took a sip, and at this moment Rick, the host Morey’s eldest son, waved to him and shouted, “Gao, want some ribs?”

Morey, as the losing party, was grilling, while his son Rick, as the winner, watched his father grilling for him without any intention of taking over the labor. On the contrary, he invited Gao Yang to enjoy the service his father was providing for them.

Gao Yang waved his hand, and Morgan said in a low voice, “Rick served in the Army Rangers for five years, and now he’s the CEO of Morey’s company, young and capable, a formidable figure, stronger than his old man. Maintaining friendship with him doesn’t hurt.”

After speaking quietly, Morgan patted Gao Yang’s shoulder and turned to leave, while Gao Yang approached Rick, took a plate Rick handed him, and smiled at the grilling Morey, “Mr. Perry, it’s an honor to taste your skills.”

Morey shrugged, while Rick laughed and said, “Who told him to lose? He initiated the bet himself. Gao, have a rib. My dad’s ribs aren’t something you can eat often; he rarely loses the bets he initiates.”

Gao Yang put down the beer, picked up the rack, and placed a steak on the plate, smiled, “Let’s start enjoying the victory.”

Rick laughed heartily and then said to Gao Yang, “Buddy, you’ve changed my impression of Huaxia folks; your shooting is the best I’ve ever seen.”

The term ‘Huaxia folks’ isn’t very polite, but Gao Yang didn’t mind because from the context and Rick’s tone, Rick merely chose an inappropriate word to express his closeness with Gao Yang.

Gao Yang shrugged and smiled, “Frankly, your redneck activities surprised me a bit. In fact, I embarrassed myself because of your activities.”

Rick laughed heartily, lightly punched Gao Yang’s shoulder, and laughed, “I heard about it; your reaction was quite fast, buddy. Have you served in the military?”

Gao Yang shook his head and said, “I’ve never served for the country; I fight for myself, um, PMC.”

Rick nodded and smiled, “I understand, Solar System International Defense Company, buddy, we need to interact more in the future. I want to know if your company provides security services.” (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendation tickets and monthly tickets on Qidian (qidian.com).
