Chapter 1277: Chapter 1260: Angel’s Dream

Nate Schumacher was very straightforward. Upon hearing Gao Yang’s request, he immediately said, “We’re currently in Kiev, but we might leave at any moment. Victor has fled, and we still don’t know his escape route, but it’s certain that he won’t be able to leave by plane. He can only escape by land—Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Mariupol—any of these places might be his route. So we might go anywhere.”

Gao Yang smiled bitterly and said, “You sure do have plenty of options. Are you sure you can track Victor’s escape route? Who’s providing the intel?”

“We don’t need to worry about the intel. Right now, there are plenty of spies in Ukraine—America, the European Union, take your pick. No matter who finds out about Victor’s whereabouts, they’ll notify us. Now we’ll see who’s better at this—Russians or Americans.”

Gao Yang exhaled and said, “Alright then, we’ll wait for news. Nate, you’re standing with the West right now, correct? We haven’t gotten involved with any side in Ukraine, so we don’t have any intel sources. Do me a favor—if you hear about Victor’s whereabouts, let us know.”

“Sure, once I know Victor’s route, I’ll leak Angel’s location. This number won’t change for the next few days; call this number if anything comes up. Ram, we don’t have time to deal with Iron Madonna; don’t let me down—teach them a good lesson.”

“Iron Madonna will get what they deserve, you can trust that. But, Nate, I’m curious, what’s so important that you don’t even have time to deal with Iron Madonna? Especially since Iron Madonna’s target is you guys.”

Nate paused for a moment before answering in a low voice, “Ram, do you know why we fight?”

“I remember. You said you fight for the sake of fighting.”

Nate chuckled and said, “No, it’s something higher than that—something bigger than that. Should I say it’s our dream? The shared dream of every member of the Angel Mercenary Corps.”

Gao Yang took a deep breath and said, “Overthrow a nation. Build a nation. A nation that’s under your control. F**k! Brother, you’re not seriously talking about Ukraine, are you?”

Nate laughed and said, “What do you think?”

Gao Yang spoke urgently, “Are you out of your mind? This is Ukraine. Ukraine is a major country! It’s not a place mercenaries can control. I don’t want to kill your vibe, but buddy, have you gone insane?”

Nate laughed and said, “Ukraine didn’t get to its current state without our efforts. Those protesters who were shot the other day—they weren’t killed by Golden Eagle; they were killed by us. We were hired by certain people to work for the opposition—assassination, coercion, blackmail, bribery—we did everything we could for the opposition. Parliament flipped, Congress flipped; we managed to sway at least half the people in those chambers. Without us, Victor wouldn’t have fallen so quickly. And now, the situation in Ukraine is developing exactly how we want.”

Gao Yang sighed helplessly and said, “Buddy, Ukraine’s a mess, but this chaos isn’t going to last forever. Someone will step in to clean up the mess.”

“Will they, though? Buddy, Western Ukraine is mainly populated by Poles; Eastern Ukraine is mostly Russians. The West supports joining the European Union; the East wants to lean toward Russia. With things at this point, do you still think Ukraine can avoid splitting up?”

Nate Schumacher’s tone brimmed with confidence, and though it was over the phone, Gao Yang could almost visualize Nate Schumacher’s exuberant expression on the other end.

“America and the European Union support the people in Western Ukraine. The Western faction forced Victor off his throne. What about the East? The East supports Victor—they support Russia. They won’t just accept defeat. Buddy, Ukraine is destined to be split apart. Civil war is inevitable. The question now is whether the West will start the civil war or the East. But no matter which faction ignites the flames, it will mean the complete division of Ukraine.”

Gao Yang said seriously, “Ukraine isn’t Libya. It’s not Syria. Ukraine is a country that both America and Russia must keep under their control. So although what you’re saying might be correct, it’s still impossible for you to take control of Ukraine.”

Nate burst into laughter and said, “I don’t want to control all of Ukraine. I just want to make sure that a new nation emerges in this world—and that this nation’s military is built by me. I don’t necessarily need to control this nation for long, but its history must begin with the mark I leave!”

After speaking with remarkable confidence, Nate used an almost fervent tone and said, “You can choose when to start a war, but you can’t choose when to end it! And because both America and Russia can’t abandon Ukraine, it’s inevitable for Ukraine to split. And I—I will build a new nation atop Ukraine’s corpse!”

Gao Yang carefully considered Nate’s words and, after a long period of thought, said in a solemn tone, “People always need dreams, buddy. I hope you can achieve yours.”

After hanging up the phone, Gao Yang spread out his hands and gave a wry smile to the group staring at him. “I’ve got to admit, we’re not as crazy as the Angel gang. Our dream is to build a big company. Their dream is to build a country.”

Almost everyone shook their heads. Eileen sighed and said, “They’re insane—completely insane. Is Ukraine really a place they can control?”

Gao Yang sighed and said, “Angel’s goal isn’t necessarily to control a nation. I think what they truly want is the sense of accomplishment that comes from creating a nation from nothing. The result doesn’t matter as much. It’s the process they crave.”

Glolov said in a low voice, “A group of fanatics who have lost their sense of purpose, fighting only for the sake of fighting—they can dream up any crazy idea. It’s not that we’re inferior to them; it’s just that we still think like normal people.”

Frey chuckled and said, “What I’m really curious about is why Nate shared all this with us. Are we suddenly on such good terms with him?”

Gao Yang shook his head and said, “It’s not that we’re super close, buddy. But if you accomplished something really impressive, wouldn’t you want to tell someone?”

Frey nodded and said, “Of course! How else would I show off?”

Gao Yang laughed and said, “Exactly. Other than us, who else could Nate tell? The Angel Mercenary Corps has only enemies, no friends. As for us, we may not be friends of Angel, but we’re definitely not their enemies. And more importantly, we keep our mouths shut. So Nate didn’t have much choice—he could only brag in front of us.”

Exhaling deeply, Gao Yang smiled ruefully and said, “Right now, the Angel Mercenary Corps is busy chasing their dream, so we’ll have to go solo. Solo it is—no big deal.”
