Chapter 1239: Chapter One Thousand Two Hundred Twenty-Two: Are You Going to Manage?
“Thank you, Mrs. Alberge, but we don’t intend to seek financing. We all share the same idea, which is to use our own money to start the company. That way, we call all the shots ourselves. We do whatever we want, however we like, and when dividing profits, we can split it however we please. Nobody will have any opinions about it. If we bring in outside investors, none of this will be possible.”
Eileen’s mother was very disappointed, but she said nothing further to Gao Yang. Instead, she turned to Fritz again and shouted loudly, “If you don’t satisfy me, I’m divorcing you! I’ve had enough! I’m done! It’s you who ruined our daughter like this. Now you must do something to make it up to her! If you still insist on your so-called military honor, fine, then get out of this house! This is Eileen’s and my home! I want a divorce!”
For her to pull out the ultimate weapon—divorce—shows she was determined. But, in hindsight, it’s not hard to understand. Her only daughter had been influenced by her father to become a soldier—that alone was hard to accept. Then, her precious girl turned into a “tough woman,” fine, so be it. But now, she’s become a mercenary, and there’s no way to pull her back? If she doesn’t get desperate now, one might really wonder if Eileen is her biological daughter.
Obviously, Eileen was her biological daughter—mother and daughter are connected at the heart. Eileen had been away for so many years, and now that she’s finally back, how could her mother let her risk her life again so easily? She just couldn’t.
Fritz stood up, looking a little embarrassed and also somewhat heartbroken. He addressed Eileen’s mother, “Why are you overreacting? Yelling like this—what’s the point? Calm down.”
“I’ve been calm for far too long! I can’t keep calm anymore. You don’t love Eileen at all! You don’t care, so I’ll care! All you care about is your career, your future. You’ve never fulfilled your responsibilities as a father. You’re unworthy of being a father! I’m done with you, I’m done! Eileen, let’s go. We’re leaving this house— no, this is our home! This is my house! You, get out and go back to your military! Leave our home!”
Fritz looked a little flustered. He stepped forward, grabbed his wife’s arm, and angrily roared, “I admit I haven’t fulfilled my responsibilities as a father, but how can you say I don’t love Eileen? For years, I haven’t had a single good night’s sleep! From the moment I found out she became a mercenary, my world nearly collapsed! Worried about my future? If I were only thinking about my future, I wouldn’t have come back here alone today. I don’t care about any future; all I care about is Eileen staying alive and well—do you understand that? Seeing Eileen like this, I worry more than anyone! I’ve been living in self-blame this whole time—don’t you know that?”
After furiously shouting at his wife, Fritz took a deep breath, then said in a low voice, “I’m sorry, my love. We both need to calm down. Please let me think about it; just let me consider it for a while.”
Releasing his wife’s arm, Fritz paced back and forth a few laps in the room, then suddenly stopped and said in a low voice, “I can’t do much to help you, but if you start your company and you’re short on personnel, I can recommend some people to you. If anyone is willing to become a PMC, I’ll strongly suggest they join your company. As for other matters…”
After speaking, Fritz took a few more steps and stopped again. As if making a monumental decision, he lowered his voice and said, “Because of my position, I have access to a lot of intelligence. If I come across anything useful to you, I’ll let you know.”
Eileen’s expression softened a little, but after her lips moved slightly, she remained silent.
Fritz continued in a low voice, “If you need any specific talents, let me know, and I’ll help you keep an eye out. As for equipment, I can’t be of much help—Germany has strict controls on arms exports. Perhaps I can assist you in strengthening contacts with certain German arms companies, especially for second-hand retired military equipment, which I think would suit your needs better. These are in high demand on the international arms market, but if you go through legal channels, I can help you purchase them at reasonable prices.”
Having said that, Fritz waved his hand wearily and said in a deep voice, “This is all I can do. Germany’s situation is… unique. I can’t do much more. Also, when your company is established, I’ll see if there’s a chance to help you secure some contracts.”
The cost for Fritz wasn’t small. If it were ever revealed that his daughter was a mercenary, it would certainly be a scandal. In a way, Eileen really was making her father’s life difficult…
Eileen’s mother’s expression lightened up somewhat, but she still said with dissatisfaction, “And that’s all?”
Gao Yang hurriedly interjected, “That’s more than enough—plenty, actually. General Aleberg has already given so much. Eileen!”
Fritz’s efforts were indeed extraordinary. Ignoring everything else, just his willingness to recommend suitable candidates to Satan’s company was remarkable. With his endorsement, even if it were just a referral, outstanding retired soldiers would undoubtedly prioritize them first.
What’s more, there was the intelligence aspect. Although it was limited to intelligence useful to Satan, the value of such intelligence was immeasurable in monetary terms. This was the kind of information you couldn’t buy with any amount of money. Coming from a core member of a nation’s high echelon, such intel carried tremendous weight.
Even though Gao Yang knew Eileen’s family background was extraordinary, he never expected to gain anything from them. But now, without Eileen saying a word, benefits were practically falling from the heavens, leaving Gao Yang both dizzy and thrilled.
A father willing to give up everything for his daughter’s sake can do an awful lot. Gao Yang wasn’t asking for anything else—just the thought of having a German core figure going to such lengths to protect and support them was enough to make him wake up laughing from a dream.
With Fritz going this far, sacrificing so much to make amends, if Eileen still kept a cold, aloof attitude, it would really be unreasonable. So, Gao Yang had no choice but to call out to her, urging at least a smile.
If Eileen and her father could truly reconcile, that would be even better. However, Gao Yang knew Eileen’s personality. To witness such a scene would likely take a long time to come.
After hesitating for a moment, Eileen looked at Fritz and finally said softly, “Thank you.”
Hearing this simple “thank you,” Fritz seemed dejected. He managed a faint smile and nodded at Eileen.
After another moment of hesitation, Eileen, without prompting from Gao Yang this time, took the initiative to softly say, “I’m sorry, Dad.”
Though her voice was barely louder than a mosquito’s hum, to Fritz, it sounded like heavenly music. His face immediately blossomed into a smile, and he said loudly, “It’s okay, Eileen. Truly, it’s me who owes you an apology.” (To be continued. If you’re enjoying this story, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets.
