Chapter 1232: Chapter 1215: The World of the Shadow
Gao Yang was a man of his word. Since he had decided to challenge them, he would definitely follow through.
After making his decision, Gao Yang no longer felt so angry. Let those bastards jump around all they wanted for now; the harder they danced now, the bigger their humiliation would be later.
Just moments ago, he had been furious, but now he acted as if nothing had happened—no yelling, no drama. This sudden shift in mood left Rafael and Yelena baffled.
“Boss, what’s up with you? You’re not the kind of person who gets over things so quickly. How come you’re fine now?”
Gao Yang smiled faintly and said, “It’s nothing. Since I’ve already decided to teach those bastards a hard lesson, why should I stay angry now? I’ll show them how to behave. And if I can’t handle it, Toad can. Those idiots have gotten themselves into big trouble, and it’ll be them who suffer in the end. So, I have no reason to stay mad.”
Rafael rubbed his hands excitedly and laughed, “I’m suddenly looking forward to seeing you put those shameless guys in their place. So, when are we heading to America?”
Gao Yang shrugged and said, “Not now. There’s no rush. Let them enjoy their lies for a few more days. It’s rare for Yelena and me to have this trip. We can wait until we’re back in America to deal with them.”
Rafael chuckled. “Boss, you’re our Palermo North Stand Soul’s superhero now. Even though Filet and the others got arrested, they were overjoyed. Last night’s fight established our association’s reputation. Boss, everyone in Palermo North Stand Soul fully supports you.”
Gao Yang laughed. “A lot has happened in these past couple of days. It’s not my usual style, but I must admit, it’s been a hell of a ride.”
After saying that, Gao Yang waved his hand and said, “This matter can rest for now. Just let it go; we won’t pay it any more attention. For now, let’s just wait for news from Number Thirteen.”
Focusing on waiting for news from Number Thirteen was difficult, though. Gao Yang found it more agonizing than being angry. Even worrying helplessly from thousands of miles away over Number Thirteen and Yake felt better than this waiting.
Time passed excruciatingly slowly. Still, Gao Yang wished it would slow down even more. But Rafael, after glancing at his watch several times, couldn’t hold it back anymore and said, “It’s five o’clock.”
Yake had said that if he didn’t make contact after this time, they should forget about finding either him or Number Thirteen. Gao Yang trusted professionals, so he hadn’t made any further plans.
Actually, Gao Yang wanted to do something, but he genuinely didn’t know what. Yake and Number Thirteen were right. Besides assembling Satan to storm Riyadh in a direct rescue mission, there was nothing else he could do.
Time ticked by. At 5:15, Rafael couldn’t resist saying, “I really like Number Thirteen. Boss, are we really going to just sit here and do nothing? How about I go to Riyadh myself? Just digging for information shouldn’t be a problem, right?”
Gao Yang scratched his head. He almost said he’d go personally, but when he opened his mouth, what came out was a steady, “Let’s wait a little longer. It’s not time yet.”
Rafael slumped into a chair but soon stood up again. Pacing the room, he said grimly, “Number Thirteen… that guy, he…”
Rafael left his sentence unfinished when he noticed Yelena was also in the room. He ultimately didn’t say what had been on his mind.
In this world, aside from Gao Yang, likely no one else knew why Number Thirteen had gone to Riyadh. Gao Yang couldn’t help but wonder: if Number Thirteen really died, then who would continue the search for his sister?
Gao Yang felt himself drifting into a daze. He quickly shook his head, forcing himself out of those thoughts.
At 5:30, Gao Yang muttered softly to himself, “Maybe I really should go to Riyadh myself.”
Gao Yang had no idea how intelligence operatives did their jobs. These people operated within their own systems and methodologies. For him, breaking someone out under the Shah Intelligence Agency’s lockdown, especially someone gravely wounded, was out of the question. But if he went to Riyadh simply as a tourist, just to gather information, that shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Even so, his concern clouded his judgment. Doing nothing at all was torture for him. Even if going to Riyadh turned out to be a wild goose chase, he felt compelled to make the trip.
Rafael said sternly, “Right now, it’s easiest for just the two of us to move. You and Yelena should head to Germany. I’ll go to Riyadh. Relax, Boss. It’s just a bit of reconnaissance. You seriously don’t trust me with something so small?”
Gao Yang shook his head. But at that moment, his phone rang again.
Gao Yang grabbed the phone as if he’d been stung by a scorpion, jerking it up to his face.
“Who is it?”
“I don’t know the number!”
After that quick exchange, Gao Yang gestured for Rafael and Yelena to stay silent before hitting the answer button.
After connecting the call, Gao Yang didn’t say a word, staying completely quiet. After a brief pause, a familiar voice came through.
“Not dead. In Dubai. Don’t contact me. Don’t come looking. Five days if fast, ten if slow. Wait for my call.”
Yake spoke in a hurried voice. Gao Yang quickly asked, “How are things on your end?”
“Not good, but manageable. Intelligence Bureau agents are still on our tail. I need to figure out how to shake them. Leonard can survive, but he’s running out of time. He must get treatment in Dubai. We’ll make it out, but don’t come messing things up for us. Wait for my call.”
Without waiting for Gao Yang to respond, Yake hung up after delivering his concise update.
Gao Yang jumped to his feet. Holding the phone in his left hand, he punched the air with his right, full of energy.
“Yes! They’re alive!”
After landing back on the ground, Gao Yang jubilantly announced the good news. Rafael exhaled deeply, slumped onto the sofa, and casually made the sign of the cross, muttering under his breath.
Yelena hadn’t asked what was going on. Once Gao Yang cheerfully announced the news, she stood up, smiled at Gao Yang, and said, “This is good news, right? Congratulations!”
Gao Yang nodded, then let out a deep breath, declaring loudly, “Everything’s fine now. It’s truly over this time. We’re going to Germany. Let’s meet up with Eileen and keep watching the games.”
Rafael laughed lightly and said, “Alright, let’s go cheer for Eileen’s team. Hey, Boss, how about another round of last night’s fun in Germany? How was it?”
Gao Yang shrugged. “Not bad, but I’m no football hooligan. Alright, let’s get going.”
Rafael grinned. “Shouldn’t we call Eileen first to let her know? Give her time to prepare for us.”
Gao Yang waved his hand and said firmly, “Forget it. We won’t arrive in Stuttgart too early tonight anyway. It’s better to meet her tomorrow. Someone in Germany will take care of everything for us. Don’t worry.”
