Chapter 1214: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Ninety-Seven: Celebrity Treatment

“Glock! Glock 17! You can use my gun!”

The very excited lady pulled out a handgun from her waist, which had a powerful look with a pink sleeve and several red heart-shaped targets on the grip, and it was even studded with diamonds.

Shooting with a pink gun would have been quite a scene, too wonderful for Gao Yang to imagine, so he did not accept the fan’s handgun. Instead, he graciously smiled and then shouted to Jack, “Hey, buddy, do we have a Glock 17?”

Jack shrugged his shoulders to indicate they did not, even though the gun Jack was using was a Glock 21, he didn’t bring a Glock 17.

Just then, someone shouted loudly, “We have one!”

A few people squeezed their way out of the crowd, all dressed in uniforms adorned with the large Glock logo; evidently, they were from the Glock Shooting Team, organized by the Glock Manufacturer as a professional shooting team.

“Mr. Gao, you can use our gun, a new gun, but finely tuned.”

The speaker didn’t seem like a member of the shooting team, more like a team leader. It was understandable; being a marksman himself, he would naturally not want a peer to outperform him, but as a leader dispatched by the manufacturer, he was inevitably considering from the manufacturer’s perspective.

A professional factory shooting team is like a live billboard; showing good performance with their guns naturally helps sell more. America’s civilian gun market is the biggest and highly competitive, and the quality of each gun is proven when a professional shooting team competes using the unmodified original factory guns.

Having a very famous sharpshooter use a particular brand is inherently great advertising, the same goes for bullets. How many gun and bullet manufacturers yearn for a celebrated shooter to use their products? Once a shooter becomes famous, they generally don’t have to spend a dime on buying guns or bullets, with plenty of manufacturers willing to provide them for free.

It’s just like how famous basketball players don’t need to buy their own sneakers. Free gifts are one thing, but it’s all about who offers money for wearing their brand.

Gao Yang took a brand-new Glock 17. For shooting competitions, a new gun isn’t always preferable as the trigger tends to be stiffer, and since the first bullet in factory group shoots must be double-action, the harder trigger pull could have more of an impact.

Regardless of whether it was new or old, Gao Yang wasn’t under any performance pressure. Just shooting was all that was necessary.

Still, Glock guns are quite effective. The 1911 modified guns have monopolized the open category, while Glock 17 has basically taken over the original factory category. Although other gun models like CZ75 are also commonly seen in this category, they are significantly fewer in number compared to Glock 17.

Using the Glock 17, Gao Yang completed the course in 50 seconds, significantly shorter than the time he took with the P229. This was because the Glock 17 used a 9mm Parabellum round, whereas the P229 used a .40 S&W round, which has a greater stopping power.

The recoil of the Glock 17 is much less, and since IPSC shooting requires firing two consecutive shots at the same target, the sensitivity to the recoil intensity definitely alters the outcome.

After Gao Yang casually returned from the range, the president of the California Chapter was even more excited. He loudly announced, “A time of 50 seconds, and a final score of 392 points, the highest score in the original factory gun category to date. Congratulations, Gao!”

Gao Yang went back beneath the chairman’s stage to return the gun and a bunch of accessories to the person from the Glock Shooting Team, but the team leader-looking man instead extended his hand for a handshake.

Gao Yang shook hands with the team leader, and at that moment, the leader said with a smile, “Hello, Mr. Gao, my name is Mike Swenton, I’m the leader of the Glock Shooting Team, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Gao Yang smirked and replied, “It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Mr. Swenton.”

After Mike released his hand, he didn’t go to fetch the gun in the holster, but instead waved his hand and asked with a smile, “So, what do you think about our guns?”

Gao Yang shrugged and replied, “Very nice, great, the shooting feel is very smooth, felt pretty good.”

Glocks are indeed quite handy, definitely very useful, lightweight, unique safety features, and very safe yet convenient for shooting. Additionally, the double-action shooting mode doesn’t make the trigger too heavy. Overall, the Glock 17 is a very decent gun, otherwise it wouldn’t be especially popular. However, Gao just couldn’t grow to like it.

There’s no special reason, Gao just thought the Glock was too ugly—the sleeve, the handle, even the shooting sound was unpleasant to his ears; he just found it unappealing in every aspect.

Mike chuckled, “As long as you like it, Mr. Gao, this gun is yours to keep. Hopefully, Glock can bring you more shooting joy. Please accept our gift, Mr. Gao.”

Although he didn’t like Glock, since it was a gift, why not accept it? Gao Yang hesitated briefly before quickly nodding, saying, “Well then, thank you, thank you for your gift.”

The woman who had suggested he use the factory gun was extremely excited. Watching Gao Yang shaking hands with Mike again, she produced a black marker from somewhere and asked Gao Yang, “Mr. Gao, could you sign my gun, please?”

After handing the pen to Gao Yang, the woman jubilantly offered her own gun with both hands.

Clutching the pen, Gao Yang was momentarily at a loss; he had never signed anything for anyone before, plus his handwriting was quite poor.

Looking at the gun the woman was holding, Gao Yang smiled and said, “Sign on the gun? That might ruin the coating on your gun’s body.”

The woman excitedly replied, “Write on the sleeve, I want it to be visible at first glance; please write ‘Sunglasses Marksman’ on one side and your name on the other, would that be okay? Please!”

Gao Yang thought about it briefly, then decided to just write. If the writing was poor, so be it.

On one side of the gun’s sleeve, he wrote ‘Sunglasses Marksman’ and on the other side, he penned his pseudonym. Of course, the handwriting differed substantially from his usual signature, but it was similarly poor.

After finishing, Gao Yang returned the gun to the woman, then chuckled, “Keep it well, this is the first time I’ve signed anything for someone. Though it’s a bit ugly, it’s meaningful, right?”

The woman nodded repeatedly, then puffing out her chest, loudly said, “Please sign my shirt as well.”

If she wanted an autograph, so be it; Gao Yang wrote his unattractive script across the front of his fan’s shirt, waiting for his jubilant fan to leave the stage. After that, Gao figured he was done. He glanced at his watch; the official competition should start at half-past two, but after several rounds, it was already twenty to three. (To be continued.
