1212: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Ninety-Five: Lives Up to the Reputation 1212: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Ninety-Five: Lives Up to the Reputation “Is that all?
Buddy, everyone wants to know a bit more about you.
Aren’t you planning to introduce yourself a little more?
Like, where do you train?
What’s your training method?
And what gun do you plan to use for the shooting?”
The president of the California Chapter seemed very curious.
Gao Yang took the microphone and smiled, “As for my training location, I’ve always been shooting on my own farm.
My training method is not much different from everyone else’s.
As for my gun, I have a Colt M1911 Government model, but I didn’t bring it today, so I’m using a spare gun, a .40 caliber P229 provided by Arilan Mosen Studio.”
Gao Yang actually planned to use his 14-round capacity 1911 for the shooting, but after realizing that he was getting way more attention than he had anticipated, he changed his mind.
Revealing his last line of defense in the face of hundreds of people didn’t seem like a wise choice to Gao Yang.
So Gao Yang decided to just use the P229 for the shooting.
Although it wasn’t his main gun and he hadn’t practiced with it, he felt he should be able to manage.
After finishing his speech, Gao Yang handed the microphone back to the president of the California Chapter, who then took the mic and loudly said, “Let me reveal something else to everyone, Mr.
Gao has never been to this shooting range before, so this is his first time shooting here.
He is completely unfamiliar with the terrain and the setup of the targets.
Also, Mr.
Gao, are you using a factory standard gun?”
Gao Yang nodded and loudly said, “Yes, factory standard, with no modifications whatsoever.”
The president then said loudly, “Alright, I know everyone has been waiting for a long time, so let’s have Mr.
Gao show us how he shoots in an unfamiliar environment.”
Gao Yang waved his hand and stepped down from the podium, set up his quick-draw holster at his waist, made sure each magazine was securely in place, put on his earmuffs, and was led by staff members to the starting position.
Gao Yang placed his hands on his waist, waiting for the signal to swiftly draw his gun and start running forward.
Upon reaching the target position, Gao Yang used the two-handed grip method most commonly found in IPSC shooting, firing two shots at each target, trying to make the distance between the two bullet holes as small as possible.
The shooting was fast, but not extremely fast, because the recoil from the P229’s .40 SW bullet is not insignificant.
Compared to those customized guns with reduced power loads, lighter trigger pulls, red dot sights, and added muzzle brakes, Gao Yang’s shooting speed was slow.
However, if judged by factory division standards, Gao Yang’s shooting speed was frighteningly fast.
Gao Yang didn’t maintain the two-handed shooting stance throughout.
When there were two bullets left, Gao Yang reached with his left hand for a new magazine while continuing to shoot with his right hand.
Just as the last bullet chambered without firing, he slightly turned the gun with his right hand, flicked the empty magazine off with the left, and slotted in the new magazine all in an instant.
He didn’t even wait for the last bullet to be fired before reloading.
Gao Yang brought his combat shooting habits into play with a quick magazine change.
He continued to shoot and run almost without stopping until he emptied four magazines and finished all the necessary targets on the rotating steel target, concluding his shooting.
After removing the magazine and pulling the slide back to show the judges that the chamber was clear, Gao Yang raised his pistol high to greet the cheering crowd.
Gao Yang returned to the podium, and the president loudly announced, “Incredible accuracy, and the time—just fifty-nine seconds, amazing!”
Obviously, shooting competitions are decided by accuracy, and IPSC has its own set of standards for evaluating precision, taking into account factors such as speed, ethical shooting practices and others, rather than score rings.
However, since Gao Yang was only performing and not officially competing, his results were not scored.
Even though it wasn’t scored, Gao Yang’s performance was indeed astonishing.
Just then, someone in the audience shouted, “Sunglasses marksman, how about shooting with a professional custom gun?
I can lend you mine!”
Gao Yang glanced at the president with some hesitation, who seemed to have already become a fan of Gao Yang’s.
He immediately smiled at Gao Yang and said, “Mr.
Gao!
Let’s do it one more time.
Let’s see how you fare in the Open division.
We’re all very curious indeed.
Tell me loudly, do you want to see it?”
“Yes!”
After a loud shout from the audience, followed by enthusiastic applause, Gao Yang nodded and smiled at the president, “Alright, I’ll shoot one more time with a professional custom gun.”
Having said that, Gao Yang looked towards Jack, knowing that if guns were being borrowed at this point, it would definitely be Jack’s gun he’d use.
Jack raised his hands and shouted, “I brought a gun, you’re in luck.”
Jack, grinning, opened a case he had brought, inside was an IPSC-specific gun modified from a 1911.
The single-action 1911 modifications almost monopolize IPSC, and Jack’s gun was no exception, also a 1911 mod.
And when Gao Yang took the gun in hand, he immediately felt it was unlike any ordinary handgun.
Big and heavy, greatly reducing recoil, complex structure, and a light trigger that could discharge with a slight touch—such a gun definitely could not be taken to the battlefield.
After briefly familiarizing himself with Jack’s gun, Gao Yang went back down to the range.
The heavy gun, combined with the muzzle brake, had so little recoil it was almost imperceptible, and the soft trigger made shooting even more relaxed and comfortable.
Ordinary shooters have to stop for a moment when shooting while running, even if it’s just for a short pause, but Gao Yang?
The professional IPSC gun let him maintain his pace without stopping, only slightly slowing down his running speed.
Although it was not yet possible to see the precision of the paper targets Gao Yang hit, the continuous shooting while running without pause was enough to impress everyone.
Before Gao Yang finished shooting, the audience had already started to clap, and as Gao Yang nimbly jumped and dashed, shooting all the targets in various stances without stopping, the applause heated up.
Changing guns made all the difference.
Gao Yang could not achieve the same results with a combat handgun as he could with ease using a specialized IPSC handgun.
And when Gao Yang finished shooting, the president of the California Chapter shouted, “The results are in, unbelievably, twenty-four seconds.
It took only twenty-four seconds to complete the shooting!” (To be continued.
