Chapter 1203 - 1203 One Thousand One Hundred Eighty-Six Sense of Security
1203: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Eighty-Six: Sense of Security 1203: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Eighty-Six: Sense of Security Each gun had to be fired, and just during the test shoot, Gao Yang fired over two hundred bullets.
Using his favorite box cannon and firing live ammunition for the first time, Gao Yang had thoroughly indulged his addiction, and Li Jinfang and the others had also benefited from it, satisfying their childhood dreams.
After firing all the guns, Gao Yang couldn’t be bothered to disassemble them to check if all parts were original, as he trusted Mr.
Federer.
After placing the last gun on the table, Gao Yang smiled at Mr.
Federer and said, “There’s no need to disassemble and check these guns.
I trust you, Mr.
Federer.
Please set a price.”
Gao Yang had already reserved seven guns at the gun show and picked out nine more at Mr.
Federer’s house, making a total of seventeen guns—a substantial sum of money when added up.
After a long look at the guns on the table, Mr.
Federer finally spoke in a deep voice, “All together there are fifteen guns, with eleven having their cases.
Hmm, in total, let’s say eighty thousand dollars.”
The price Mr.
Federer quoted was certainly not low, but there was no choice—those who wanted to collect had to pay a premium when buying from collectors.
Although the price was expensive, Gao Yang could accept it, but he immediately said, “Mr.
Federer, it’s actually sixteen guns.”
Mr.
Federer made a silly face at Gao Yang and said with a smile, “I can still count, Gao.
The one without the Aimer I am giving to you as a gift, plus I will give you an extra two hundred bullets, so you won’t need to go looking for 7.63x25mm Mauser cartridges anymore.”
Gao Yang laughed heartily and said loudly, “Mr.
Federer, thank you for your generosity and for being willing to part with them.”
After saying this, Gao Yang pulled out a checkbook with a fixed denomination from his pocket.
Since he had planned to make a large purchase at the gun show, Gao Yang had prepared two different checkbooks, one where he could write any amount.
But for large transactions, especially ones outside of New York, the payee might worry about accepting a blank check, so Gao Yang had also specially prepared a book of fixed denomination checks valued at five thousand dollars each.
The traveler’s checks were pre-signed and could be used like cash.
Gao Yang swiftly counted out sixteen and handed them to Mr.
Federer.
After giving the checks to Mr.
Federer, Gao Yang suddenly said, “Mr.
Federer, I want to ask, if you were really going to open a small private museum, how much money do you think it would need?”
After looking over and counting the checks, Mr.
Federer slowly said, “Opening a museum would be quite expensive, at least three or four hundred thousand dollars, I suppose.
Making my house into a museum would be easy and cost nothing, but since a museum implies opening the doors for public viewing, I don’t want my house visited at any time—I fear my wife would kill me.”
After saying that, Mr.
Federer looked regretful as he continued, “So forget it, let’s just drop the museum idea.
I don’t have enough funds to open a museum.
I think, though, it would be nice to rent a space for a short-term exhibition.
A free exhibition, allowing everyone who loves the C96 to come and see it, this doesn’t sound bad either.”
Gao Yang waved his hand and said, “Then hold an exhibition—that’s a great idea.”
Mr.
Federer gave a wry smile and said, “An exhibition requires renting a venue, and we need to hire professionals to help set up and transport the exhibits.
If I just find anyone to help, it would be cheaper, but I would worry about losing or damaging my guns.
All of those are money, and I think, even for a three-month exhibition, it would need at least thirty thousand dollars.”
After some thought, Gao Yang seriously considered it and tore off six checks valued at five thousand dollars each from the checkbook, then extended them towards Mr.
Federer with both hands.
Mr.
Federer looked at Gao Yang in astonishment and asked, “What are you doing?”
Gao Yang said earnestly, “Mr.
Federer, I would like to sponsor your exhibition, to let those who love the Mauser C96 come and see them.
There’s no complicated reason—I just really like these guns, very much so, and I want others who like them to have the chance to appreciate them too.”
After hesitating for a moment, Mr.
Federer took the checks and said in a deep voice, “Alright, you seem to be a wealthy man, Gao.
The spelling of your name is on this check, and I now know how to write your name.
Your forms also have your residential address.
Could you now leave me a contact number?”
Gao Yang said with a smile, “Of course.
Is there something you need to do?”
Mr.
Federer nodded and said with a smile, “I will name the exhibition after the both of us.
When it’s ready to open, I’ll call to let you know.”
Gao Yang didn’t give out his satellite phone number but instead wrote down his American mobile number, as well as his Chinese name, on a piece of paper.
Then he handed the piece of paper to Mr.
Federer with both hands and said with a smile, “I’m looking forward to the moment when your collection is publicly exhibited.
However, sometimes my phone might go unanswered for a long time, but as soon as I receive your call, I will surely come to appreciate your collection again.”
Mr.
Federer took the piece of paper from Gao Yang solemnly, wrote down his own number on another slip, and chuckled, “This is my number.
Feel free to call any time.
Well, now the transaction is concluded, and it’s lunchtime.
So, I invite you to have a simple lunch at my home, I presume you will accept, right?”
Gao Yang took the piece of paper, laughed heartily, and said, “It would be my pleasure.
Thank you very much.”
Gao Yang and his companions had a simple homemade lunch at Federer’s place, but Gao Yang enjoyed it immensely, primarily because he had such a great time chatting with Federer.
They found they shared a passion for the Mauser C96 and had endless topics to discuss.
Had it not been for Jack and Morgan being there, Gao Yang might have stayed all day, but considering the presence of several other people, they had lunch and rested a bit before Gao Yang had to reluctantly bid farewell around 2 o’clock.
They drove back to downtown Los Angeles, and by the time they reached the city again, it was past three.
It didn’t seem meaningful to go back to the gun show, and more importantly, Gao Yang still had things to do.
They were staying at the Hilton Hotel.
After settling Yelena in, Gao Yang glanced at his watch and said to her, “Darling, I need to meet someone.
Just stay at the hotel and wait for me.
If anything comes up, call Morgan.
I should be back before dinner, but if I’m not, I’ll give you a call, alright?”
Yelena nodded lightly and said in a soft voice, “There’s no danger, is there?”
Gao Yang laughed heartily and replied, “If there was any danger, I would not have brought you to Los Angeles at all.
Don’t worry; it’s just a meeting with someone.”
When Morgan went out, he usually had bodyguards with him, but they’d stand down when he was with Gao Yang and the others.
Had Simon been there, he surely would have joined Gao Yang and Morgan, but in Simon’s absence and the presence of bodyguards unfamiliar with Gao’s group, Morgan decided not to bring any along.
Morgan’s room was next to Gao’s, and his two bodyguards were conveniently housed across from Gao and Morgan’s rooms, just a shout away if needed.
Morgan was also in Gao Yang’s room.
He waved his hand at Gao Yang with a smile, “I’m heading back to my room.
Come back early tonight, and I’ll take you guys to a nice restaurant.”
Jack chuckled as well, “Right, come back soon so we can have a good drink tonight.
Alright, I’m going to take a nap in my room.
Call me when you guys get back.”
After Morgan and Jack left, Gao Yang, Jinfang, and the other three were the only ones left.
Gao Yang pecked Yelena on the forehead and signaled to Jin and the rest that it was time to go.
Leaving the room, Gao Yang and the others didn’t head straight out of the hotel.
Instead, they went to Li Jinfang’s room.
Once in Li Jinfang’s room, Gao Yang checked his watch and said gravely, “The person we’re meeting today is dangerous, but he should pose no threat to us.
It’s better for the four of us to split up.
I’ll go and suss him out first to see what he’s up to.
If it’s not necessary, you guys stay out of sight.”
Li Jinfang gave a nod and responded, “Let me go with you.
The two of us can show up together, while Rabbit and Postman can keep watch.”
Gao Yang pondered for a moment then shook his head, “No, there’s no need.
The guy isn’t a threat to me, and we’re not looking for trouble.
Having too many people around might backfire.
Just follow me in the car.
I’m bringing you along just to scope things out, not for anything else.”
Cui Bo laughed and said, “No trouble doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be fully prepared.
Heh, I’ve come prepared.”
After saying that, Cui Bo walked over to his suitcase, pulled out an MP7 submachine gun and a lengthy suppressor, and packed the gun, suppressor, and magazines into a small carry bag, then said with a grin, “This’ll do.
I’ll attach the suppressor and magazine in the car.”
Taylor shrugged, “I’m prepared too, just give me a second.”
Cui Bo and Li Jinfang were sharing a suite, while Taylor had a separate room.
He left and came back in three minutes, carrying a bag with him.
After opening the bag, Taylor pulled out a long suppressor, waved it at Cui Bo with a grin, and boasted, “See, my baby’s bigger!”
Inside the bag was a disassembled HK416 divided into three main parts.
Taylor put the weapon together, attached the suppressor and magazine, put everything back into the long bag, zipped it up, and declared, “All set.”
Gao Yang held his head, a look of helpless frustration on his face, “F**k, you guys, you know we’re on a trip, right?
A trip, not going to war.
Why are you bringing all these heavy weapons?”
Cui Bo and Taylor said in unison, “With heavy firepower, comes a sense of security!”
After saying this in chorus, Taylor laughed, “I’m not like you; I can’t solve everything just with a handgun, so it’s better to bring the big guns.”
Gao Yang pointed at Li Jinfang, “Look at him, Toad doesn’t need to bring anything; um, he’s more confident in his own fists and feet.”
With an awkward expression, Li Jinfang cleared his throat twice to interrupt Gao Yang, then headed to his suitcase and revealed a disassembled 5.56 mm caliber modified Type 81 and a ready-to-use MP5 submachine gun with a folded stock and magazine attached.
After showing the weapons, Li Jinfang said with mild embarrassment, “Which one should I bring?
Hmm, if we’re just staying in the car, I guess I’ll take the submachine gun.
Or maybe, I’ll bring both?” (To be continued.
