1190: One thousand one hundred seventy-three slaps, such is fate.

1190: One thousand one hundred seventy-three slaps, such is fate.

Gao Yang said a lot in excitement and finally got a direct response from Frey, although Frey’s focus was not quite what he had imagined.

With a wave of his hand, Gao Yang said angrily, “What does it have to do with you?”

Frey fell silent; he bowed his head, gasping heavily.

Tommy, somewhat angry, shouted at Frey, “Are you crazy?

You idiot!

You’ve gone too far!

Bastard, if you dare to point a gun at yourself again, I’ll break your arms, damn it!”

But Glolov hugged Frey and said softly, “Buddy, I understand how you feel, but you have to realize, you’re meant to be a star, you love baseball, you’ve got talent.

Boss is doing this for your own good, we all want to see you play baseball.

Frey, don’t let Gao down, don’t let all of us down.

You need to know one thing, we are brothers, we want to see you have a better future, not to keep you risking your life with Satan.”

Frey kept silent while Mrs.

Smith and Ella started to sob, and Yelena and Natalia, along with Tommy’s girlfriend Vita, were comforting Mrs.

Smith and Ella.

Glolov pointed at Mrs.

Smith and Ella, and then continued softly, “Look at your mother and your wife, they are terrified.

Frey, you have to think about if you keep living this life, they need you, don’t make them worry anymore, go comfort them, and then tell them you’ve decided to play baseball.”

Frey lifted his head, glanced at his mom and wife, but then shouted, “Big Dog, Natalia and Yelena are here, Tommy, Vita is here too, we’re all the same, we all have our concerns, now tell them, both of you, say you’re out of Satan, you say it!”

Glolov looked troubled and after a guilty glance at Natalia and Yelena, he said with a lack of confidence, “It’s not the same, we are not the same, you’re still young, plus, I got nothing else but fighting, buddy, I’m a Machine Gun Artist, not a Baseball Artist, otherwise, I’d definitely go play baseball.”

Frey scoffed disdainfully, while Tommy shouted furiously, “F**k, are you like us?

How old am I, and how old are you?

I’ve got nothing to lose when I’m dead, you little kid who understands nothing!”

Looking at Tommy with an unconvinced sneer, Frey said, “Tommy, be careful what you say, you better think about how you’re going to explain your earlier words to Vita when you get back.”

Tommy glanced at Vita, his facial expression froze, then sheepishly said, “It’s different, this is different.”

Frey firmly said, “It’s the same, really the same.

If you all can’t leave, why should I be able to leave?”

Both Glolov and Tommy were at a loss for words, but Glolov quickly said, “Alright, let’s not talk about this.

Frey, Gao was humiliated just to get you into the New York Mets, don’t you think you should do something?”

Frey immediately clenched his fists, took a step forward, and angrily said to Gao Yang, “Boss, those bastards made fun of you, right?”

Gao Yang gazed intently at Frey and shouted, “What does it have to do with you?

You’ve already decided not to play baseball, what’s the use of being talked about?

Can I prove anything by saying there’s a baseball genius who just refuses to play?

What’s the use of talking about things that can’t be proven?”

Frey said firmly, “I like the big city, but that doesn’t mean I can tolerate them mocking you, humiliating you!

I will never allow anyone to offend you!

Absolutely not!”

Gao Yang stared at Frey and said sternly, “I told the management and the head coach of the New York Mets, and many others, they will regret it.

If you really plan to do something, then show it through your actions, show those people how big a mistake they’ve made!”

After finishing speaking, Gao Yang waved his hand and shouted loudly, “As for baseball, settle it with baseball!”

Frey looked conflicted, pulling his hair hard with both hands, and let out an angry and helpless growl.

Gao Yang felt very uncomfortable inside, but he still had to keep pushing.

So he grabbed Frey’s shoulders and shouted, “Go play baseball!

Make the New York Mets regret it!”

Frey was about to cry again, and finally, after shaking his head vigorously, he yelled at Gao Yang, “Stop pushing me, I can’t do it, I just can’t!

I will make the Mets regret it, I will go play baseball, but not now, it’s not possible right now!”

Gao Yang sighed deeply, releasing Frey’s shoulders.

At that moment, Mrs.

Smith, who had been sobbing quietly on the side, suddenly said, “Gao, stop pushing him.”

Mrs.

Smith, with tears all over her face, walked in front of Frey, wiped the tears from his face, turned to Gao Yang and said, “He’s been very stubborn since he was a child, once he’s set on something, no one can persuade him otherwise.

Gao, stop pushing him, he won’t change his mind.”

Frey bowed his head, Mrs.

Smith turned to walk in front of Gao Yang, sobbing softly, “Gao, thank you for everything you’ve done for Frey.

Gao, I’m at ease knowing Frey is with you.”

After looking back at Frey, Mrs.

Smith once again walked in front of him, grabbed his hand, and said softly, “My son, I know what you do, and I worry about you, Ella and I worry about you every day, but I won’t persuade you to play baseball, choose your own path, live the way you hope to live, I will respect your decision.”

Mrs.

Smith bowed her head, wiped the tears from her eyes, then looked up again, choking up, “Following a boss like Gao, even if I die, it’s worth it.”

Gao Yang could hardly believe his ears.

He had almost broken Frey’s leg in his efforts to get him to play baseball.

If it were possible for Frey to play baseball with a broken leg, Mrs.

Smith would be thrilled; her words, though, seemed to be pushing Frey in the opposite direction.

Is this really her own son?

What kind of mother would do this?

An angry and anxious Gao Yang immediately raised his voice: “Mrs.

Smith!

You…”

Mrs.

Smith turned and shook her head at Gao Yang, then said softly, “Gao, don’t say anymore.

Let Frey choose his own path.

He’s an adult now, and he has the right to make his own decisions.”

After speaking gently, Mrs.

Smith turned to Frey, cradled his face, and said with a soft yet firm tone, “You haven’t forgotten your roots.

You are a real man, and I am proud of you.

No matter what you do, I support you.

Follow the thoughts in your heart and go your own way.”

With tears in his eyes, Frey looked up at his mother and said in a trembling voice, “Mom, I’m sorry.”

With one apology, Gao Yang knew it was over, completely over.

Mrs.

Smith kissed Frey on the forehead and whispered, “You are a man, and men don’t cry.”

After speaking, Mrs.

Smith turned to the other women and said softly, “Men’s matters should be solved by men themselves.

Let’s go.”

Natalia gave Gao Yang and Glolov a complicated look, then sighed, “Let’s go to my place.”

Yelena looked at Gao Yang with both pride and sorrow in her eyes.

After giving Gao Yang a gentle nod, she took Ella by the hand and left.

Vita spread her hands and said to Tommy with a helpless smile, “I thought you could have a stable life, but now it seems unlikely.

Ah, the emotions between men are really…”

Vita shook her head and left with Mrs.

Smith and the others.

Once the women left, Gao Yang walked forward a few steps, sat down on Frey’s bed, and heaved a long sigh, “Let’s not talk anymore.

I want some peace.”

Frey said cautiously, “Boss, I’m sorry.”

Gao Yang waved his hand weakly, “Don’t say anything.

Let’s not speak.

I need some quiet.”

After a long sigh from both Glolov and Tommy, they found spots to sit down as well.

Disappointed at iron not becoming steel, Gao Yang felt an extreme sense of disappointment.

He had truly hoped that Frey would go play baseball, become a star, and make something great of himself.

Even if he couldn’t become a big star, having a safe career in baseball was far better than living the uncertain life of a mercenary.

Although they were planning to transition away from that life, even without being mercenaries, Satan’s situation wasn’t safe at all.

Gao Yang couldn’t understand how Mrs.

Smith could be that kind of mother.

Having already lost her husband, was she not afraid to lose her son as well?

However Gao Yang thought about it, he couldn’t comprehend it.

Looking at Gao Yang’s ashen face, Frey, unable to stay silent any longer, said in a low voice, “Boss, I really can’t go play baseball.

I wouldn’t be happy living that kind of life.

You all are taking risks, and if I were to play baseball, it would be torture for me.

The life of a star might be great, but it’s not for me, at least not now.

The time isn’t right, Boss.

You have to understand me.”

Could Gao Yang really not understand Frey?

Not really.

Gao Yang quite understood him, much like he would never leave Satan.

The people of Satan were like grasshoppers strung together; none could jump or break free.

The cord that strung them together wasn’t interest, but friendship.

True brothers consider each other’s well-being, wishing the best for one another, rather than chaining each other to their warships.

So Gao Yang had only wished to persuade Frey, hoping he would change his mind.

Unfortunately, Gao Yang’s efforts were in vain.

Eventually, Gao Yang let out a long sigh, “Fate, this is fate.

Frey, I won’t force you anymore.

If we all survive till retirement, then go play your baseball.

If you’re dead or disabled, there’s nothing we can do about it.

That’s just the way your fate is meant to be.”

Frey, with a surprised look on his face, asked, “Boss, you promise, you promise you won’t force me to play baseball anymore?”

Gao Yang let out a helpless sigh, “Things have come to this point.

What’s the use of talking about this anymore?

No, I won’t force you.

Not anymore.”
