1182: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Sixty-Five: Will He Go?

When the clock struck a little past ten in the morning, Gao Yang wanted to sleep in, but with big and small matters piling up, he could only get up reluctantly.

Without disturbing the sleeping Yelena, Gao Yang tiptoed out of the room; his first task was to go downstairs and look for Eileen.

Arriving at Eileen’s door, Gao Yang raised his hand and knocked, but there was no response from inside.

He knocked harder and again rapped on the door.

After pausing at the door and hearing no movement inside, Gao Yang knocked forcefully once more, starting to think that perhaps Eileen had already gotten up and left.

Gao Yang was about to call Eileen when he suddenly heard her scream from inside the room.

“Ah!

Who’s that!

Oh, shit!

Where are my clothes!”

Gao Yang slapped his forehead, having forgotten that Eileen’s clothes had been sent for cleaning.

After grinning sheepishly, he called out loudly, “It’s me, just wait, I’ll have someone send your clothes…

uh!”

Before Gao Yang could finish, the door suddenly opened, with Eileen wrapped in a bath towel, sleepily cracking open the door.

After opening her door, Eileen didn’t close it, but instead yawned and mumbled in a daze, “Come in.”

Without further ado, Gao Yang entered the room, and Eileen closed the door behind him, one hand clutching the towel, the other wiping her face, and then said dispiritedly, “I think I’m starting to remember something, did you bring me back yesterday?”

“Yes.”

“Was it you who dumped me into the bathtub and bonked my head?

It still hurts!”

“Yes, it was me.

Sorry, I lost my grip and threw you in there.”

Eileen waved it off and said, “Forget it, I forgive you.

As long as no one took advantage of me, I’m fine.”

Gao Yang, with a forehead full of black lines, helplessly said, “I’ll call room service to send your clothes back.

Eileen, how much did you drink last night?”

Eileen spread her hands and replied, “Not sure, but a lot.

Did I act like a fool?

Who cares, nothing happened anyway.”

Gao Yang shook his head and said sternly, “In the future, you’re not allowed to drink that much.

Listen, we’re in some trouble at the moment.

Krulney might seek revenge on us, so be careful for a while.”

Eileen shrugged and contended, “You’re the one who should be worried.

I don’t think Krulney will come after me first.

If we split up, he’ll definitely come after you first.”

Gao Yang gestured and insisted, “Okay, just be more careful.

I’m going to Big Dog’s place for lunch, are you coming?”

Eileen, ignoring Gao Yang’s question, frowned at him and asked, “Boss, why was it you who changed my clothes and bathed me, not Yelena?”

Gao Yang spread his hands and hesitated for a moment before finally saying, “Well, it’s nothing, Yelena isn’t strong enough, and the main thing is…”

Gao Yang gestured across his chest and then said with a wry smile, “So I just did it myself.”

Eileen expressed her frustration, “Oh, damn, my tattoo’s starting to be a nuisance.

I got it in a rush of excitement, but now that I think about it, damn, I must have left my brain at home when I went to the tattoo shop.

But I’m curious, Yelena actually agreed to let you help another woman, uh, with those things.”

Scratching his head, Gao Yang then said with a pained expression, “Well, that, I…

um, I lied, Eileen.

I’m really sorry, I had no choice at the time.”

“What lie did you tell?”

“You have to promise you won’t get mad.”

“Just tell me.”

“I said that you were a lesbian.”

Eileen’s eyes immediately widened, and as she stared at Gao Yang, making him grow nervous, she flipped him the bird and then told him, “Don’t expect me to help you cover up your lies.

I won’t expose you, but don’t expect me to play along with your lies, forget it!”

After dropping that bomb on Gao Yang, Eileen yawned again and then said, “Boss, when are you heading to the West Coast?

I want to go see Lucica.”

Gao Yang nodded and said, “It’ll probably take a day or two more.

Once I’ve dealt with everything in New York, we’ll head to the West Coast.

Then we can all go together.”

Eileen nodded and said, “Okay, I got it.

You should go now, go enjoy your lunch at Big Dog’s house.

I’m going to continue sleeping; I don’t want to do anything.

I’ll just stay here.

Goodbye, Boss.”

Now that he knew Eileen was fine, Gao Yang waved his hand, said goodbye to Eileen, and went down another floor, intending to see the others.

But just as he descended the stairs, he spotted Li Jinfang and Little Donnie.

Seeing Gao Yang, Li Jinfang appeared somewhat awkward, while Little Donnie waved his hand and said with a smile, “Hey, you’re up early.

If you’re thinking of waking everyone else up, forget about it.

We just got back this morning, and they are all sleeping soundly.

Unless it’s something urgent, I think it would be better not to disturb them.

It would be awkward.”

Gao Yang frowned at the two and asked, “Where are you guys headed?”

Little Donnie said with a smile, “Going to my place.

My mom made lunch.

Li and I are going to my house to eat.

Wanna join us?”

Gao Yang shook his head and answered, “No thanks, I’m going to Yelena’s house for lunch; they’re waiting for me.

I’d better not go.

Actually, it’s better if it’s just you and Toad, right?”

Little Donnie laughed, while Li Jinfang chuckled dryly.

Gao Yang waved and said, “Okay then, off you go.

I won’t wake the others.

Be safe, take care.”

Knowing that Little Donnie definitely wanted to drag Li Jinfang to his house, mostly because of that hacker Eliza, somehow, Li Jinfang got along quite well with that girl with autism.

It’s said the two could sit together for hours without uttering a single word.

Little Donnie must have seen Li Jinfang in a new light; although he and Eliza were not siblings, their relationship was as close as any.

Eliza hardly spoke to anyone, but she was able to peacefully coexist with Li Jinfang.

It wasn’t easy.

After waving goodbye to them, Gao Yang decided not to call the others either and went back to his room.

He woke up Yelena and quickly prepared to return to Yelena’s house.

This was like paying a visit to his father-in-law, and although his relationship with Glolov was too good and too familiar, making it feel no different from being at home, he just spent a night away from Yelena’s place.

He felt a bit awkward and thought it was better to hurry back.

As he was driving Yelena home, Gao Yang’s phone started ringing.

Gao Yang glanced at the caller and picked up.

It was Morgan calling.

After answering, Gao Yang said solemnly, “Morgan, what’s up?”

Morgan spoke in a low voice, “Yes, there’s something.

Weren’t you looking to network with the New York Mets?

Well, coincidentally, there’s an opportunity today.

There’s a social gathering tonight, and one of the Mets’ owners, Wilpen, will be there.

I can take you to the event.

It starts at 7:30 this evening.

Dress formally; I’ll send someone to pick you up.”

Gao Yang felt distressed and responded, “Do I have to go?

Can’t you just tell Mr.

Wilpen to send a scout or something to check out Frey’s skills?

I don’t really have to go to the event, do I?

Morgan, you know, I’m not comfortable at those high-society gatherings.”

Morgan chuckled and reassured, “It’s a small event; most attendees are friends of mine.

You need to start getting to know these people.

Trust me, you have to come tonight.

Oh, and you can bring a date.

Remember to bring Yelena with you, but don’t forget to buy her an evening dress.

Gao, you can’t always just hang around with mercenaries.

If you want to do big business, you’ve got to get to know these people.

Get ready; I’ll send someone to pick you up.”

Gao Yang replied solemnly, “Alright, I’ll be there.

I’ll get ready.”

After hanging up, Gao Yang smiled at Yelena and said, “Darling, after lunch, we’ll go buy you an evening dress, and then we’ll attend a social event together.”

Upon hearing this, Yelena immediately shook her head and said, “No, let’s not.

I’m not comfortable with those kinds of places, and I don’t like them.”

Gao Yang didn’t want to press Yelena, and he felt it wasn’t necessarily good for her studies to be exposed to the high-society crowd too soon since she was still a student.

Gao Yang smiled and suggested, “If you don’t feel like going, let’s not.

When you do want to go, we’ll go together.

I’m just sorry that I can’t accompany you to the opera tonight.”

Yelena smiled back, “It’s okay, your business is more important.

Oh, I heard you mention Frey’s baseball skills.

Is this related to Frey?”

Gao Yang said with a smile, “Yes, it seems Frey is really good at baseball.

Some say he’s talented enough to go play in Major League Baseball, and he could be a megastar.

But none of us really know if Frey is that good.

There will be New York Mets’ owners at the gathering tonight, and I want to find a chance to see if we can arrange a professional tryout for Frey.”

Yelena’s face lit up with surprise, “Really?

That’s great news, we’ve got to tell Frey right away.”

Gao Yang quickly said, “No, no, definitely don’t tell Frey.

Listen to me; the problem is Frey doesn’t want to play Major League Baseball.

So, we can’t tell him in advance, especially not about the tryout.

I’m afraid, if he hears about the tryout or scouts assessing his skills, that damn Frey won’t be willing to go.

We have to keep it a secret for now.”

Yelena furrowed her brow, then spoke softly, “Alright, we won’t tell Frey then.

But, can I tell Mrs.

Smith and Ella?”

Gao Yang thought for a moment and shook his head, “No, don’t say anything yet.

I worry they might not keep it a secret.

Let’s wait until after Frey has gone, or let him tell them himself.”

Yelena nodded and then chuckled lightly, “It would be great if Frey really went to play baseball.

And if he becomes a megastar, that would be even better.

But he’ll go, right?”

“The Mets is his favorite team; he dreamed of just watching a game at their stadium.

Just watching, nothing more.

If it had been another team, it might be a different story, but going to the Mets, that’s definitely not a problem.”

Gao Yang sounded very confident, but inside he wasn’t as certain as he claimed.

In fact, he had his doubts: Would Frey really agree to play ball?
