Mercenary’s War
Chapter 1159 - 1159 One Thousand One Hundred Forty-Two Welcome Home

1159: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Forty-Two: Welcome Home 1159: Chapter One Thousand One Hundred Forty-Two: Welcome Home The prison had turned into a bustling construction site, and even after dark, the intense work didn’t stop.

Without any machinery, the prison guards and a group of prisoners deemed reliable had to work as quickly as possible to plug up the large and small breaches anew.

The collapsed sections couldn’t possibly be restored to their previous state, but it was still possible to pile up stones and blasted materials to build a high wall that personnel could not cross.

As long as it prevented the Rebel Army’s infantry from entering smoothly, that would be sufficient.

The guards had suffered significant casualties, but there were still over two hundred people available for construction, plus more than three hundred prisoners providing labor.

Although there were many breaches in the wall, restoring the most basic defense overnight should still be no problem.

After nightfall, it was unlikely that the Rebel Army would launch another attack.

Although some people still needed to monitor their movements just in case, they could now take turns packing up their belongings, readying everything for departure.

The moment the helicopter arrived, they could simply pick up and go.

Gao Yang had nothing to do, and given his status, if he went and joined others in moving bricks and piling stones, it wouldn’t be helping, but adding chaos.

The idle Gao Yang went to the rooftop with the best view, joining others in monitoring the Rebel Army’s movements.

All of Satan’s people had gathered together, except for Andy He.

Andy He was treating the wounded.

His presence meant that the soldiers injured in this battle were relatively fortunate.

The casualty numbers had already been tallied: twenty-seven dead, sixteen injured, including four severely.

The lightly wounded were relatively simple to handle, but the injuries of the four severely wounded were more troublesome.

Andy He had to quickly perform surgery on all four of them.

Any delay and the severely wounded would become fatalities.

In the past, there wasn’t even a real doctor in the prison, and they could only watch helplessly as those who could have been saved died in agony.

But with Andy He present, things were different.

Andy He alone was doing the work of at least four doctors.

He conducted four surgeries at the same time, all four patients beside him, all opened up.

He dealt with the most urgent cases first, then turned his attention to the less critical ones, performing four surgeries simultaneously and pulling all four severely wounded back from the brink of death.

Of course, under these circumstances, the possibility of cross-infection or the like wasn’t even considered.

If one of the wounded had something like hepatitis or AIDS, it was likely the other three would contract it too.

However, compared to the fundamental issue of survival, the minor probability of infection was a secondary concern.

After more than six hours, Andy He finished all four surgeries.

What he did was not the work of a medic but that of a surgeon; otherwise, it would not have taken over six hours.

Time ticked away, and by two o’clock in the middle of the night, Major Sedov was still leading people to work, but Gao Yang had to interrupt his work because he had received a call: the helicopter had arrived at Aleppo Airport and was refueling.

It would soon be there to pick them up.

After receiving the call, Gao Yang was excited and thrilled, but also felt a bit reluctant.

After all, he had been there for over a month.

Although he had grown to detest the prison, he definitely felt reluctant to leave his comrades-in-arms with whom he had fought side by side.

After hanging up the phone, Gao Yang was silent for a moment before he spoke gravely into the intercom: “Major, you need to arrange for someone to take over our duties.”

Major Sedov immediately responded: “Oh, is the helicopter arriving?

I’ll arrange for people to head there right away.”

A few minutes later, a few soldiers arrived on the rooftop, taking over the work from Gao Yang and his team.

After a brief farewell, they left the rooftop and returned to their rooms, picking up their luggage.

Andy He was still working, so Gao Yang and his team took Andy He’s belongings and went to the infirmary, waiting outside for him.

Although all the lightly injured had been treated, Andy He was still explaining to the prisoner acting as a doctor how to provide follow-up care for them.

Gao Yang and his team didn’t rush but calmly waited for Andy He.

After checking the situation in the infirmary, Gao Yang quickly stepped out and whispered into the intercom: “Major, we are taking the four severely wounded with us, sending them to Damascus.”

Major Sedov was gratified: “Is that possible?

Thank you, General.”

Gao Yang sighed and replied: “No need for courtesy, it’s just a helping hand.”

After ending the conversation with Major Sedov, Gao Yang and his team quietly stood outside the infirmary.

About twenty minutes later, Taylor, carrying a radio, suddenly spoke in a low voice: “This is Nightfiend Team, we are in the prison waiting for you, wish you all the best, over.”

After finishing, Taylor turned to Gao Yang and whispered: “Boss, our helicopter has arrived, it’s very close.

In about ten more minutes, they will perform ultralow flight to enter the prison.”

Right at that moment, a blood-covered Andy He pushed the door open and walked out of the infirmary, leaning against the wall in exhaustion and saying gravely: “Alright, I’ve finished.”

Gao Yang spoke deeply: “Load up the severely wounded, take them with us.”

The conditions in the prison were too poor, and the severely wounded could face life-threatening complications during recovery.

Fortunately, Gao Yang’s group had two helicopters for extraction, which meant they could take all four severely wounded soldiers with them.

Major Sedov summoned a few people to carry the four severely wounded with stretchers, who then joined Gao Yang’s group at the prison courtyard.

Gao Yang and his comrades took out flashlights, ready to guide the landing zone for the helicopters.

Meanwhile, Sedov stopped his work and approached Gao Yang’s side.

Before long, Taylor suddenly shouted, “They’re here!

Turn on the flashlights!”

Gao Yang and the others switched on their flashlights, and within a minute, the whirring sound of helicopter propellers was heard.

Soon after, two helicopters swept over the wall and began to descend.

When the two helicopters safely touched down, the onlookers who had been watching the helicopters collectively cheered.

The helicopters landed, propeller speed began to slow, then the cabin doors opened, and a person jumped out from inside.

Dani descended from the helicopter and waved at Gao Yang.

With a pack on his back, Dani quickly ran to Gao Yang, glanced at Sedov, then turned and embraced Sedov, exclaiming loudly, “Brother, you’ve worked hard!

The President himself entrusted me to convey a message to you, Major Sedov, you are true warriors.

You’ve earned glory for the country, the nation thanks you, the people thank you, and the President thanks you!”

An excited look spread across Sedov’s face as he grinned and replied loudly, “The hardships are worthwhile.

Please tell the President that as long as one of us is alive, this place will not fall into the hands of the Rebel Army.

Now, brothers, before the enemy reacts and gets ready, let’s move out quickly, we can’t waste any time.”

Dani nodded, took off the pack he was carrying, and handed it to Gao Yang, but Gao Yang immediately passed it to Sedov.

Looking surprised, Sedov asked, “What’s this?”

Gao Yang gestured for them to start transporting the severely wounded onto the helicopters and then, one by one, Satan’s men saluted the nearby soldiers before boarding the helicopters.

As the others were boarding, Gao Yang pointed to the pack in Sedov’s hand and said solemnly, “Inside there’s a satellite phone with plenty of funds to let the brothers call home.

Don’t worry, I’ll take care of the costs till you leave this place.

Besides the phone, there are also a few tablets loaded with all kinds of movies—and not just those kinds of movies.

Major, if someone earns a distinction this time, you’ll have something to reward them with.

You have solar panels to charge these devices; I hope everyone likes it.”

Stunned, Sedov said, “The brothers will definitely like it, thank you, General.

I wish you a smooth journey.”

Gao Yang nodded, hugged Sedov, and whispered in his ear, “Remember to call your family and prepare them.

As soon as I reach Damascus, I’ll pick them up to leave together.

Don’t forget.”

After speaking, Gao Yang patted Sedov’s shoulder, stood at attention, saluted Sedov, turned, and ran towards the helicopter.

Sedov stood still on the spot,

while pushing Dani into the helicopter and as Gao’s foot touched the lowered hatch, he turned his head one last time.

Through the night vision device, he saw Sedov saluting in his direction.

It wasn’t just Sedov; everyone, regardless of distance, was standing straight and saluting towards them.

Gao Yang stood at attention once more, and regardless of whether those soldiers without night vision devices could see in the moonlight or not, he solemnly saluted again, then turned and entered the cabin, saying in a deep voice, “Take off!”

The hatch closed, and the aircraft quickly began to climb.

Just at a few meters high, it transitioned to level flight, increasingly accelerating as it flew past the prison walls and dashed towards the area controlled by the Rebel Army.

Gao Yang felt somewhat nervous but not extremely so.

He thought that after a devastating defeat in the daytime, the Rebel Army wouldn’t be able to maintain their air defense network with the same alertness as before.

Nobody was looking out at the scenery whizzing past.

Only Cui Bo stood up to take a peek outside the window.

After seeing the ground zoom past beneath them, Cui Bo flipped up the night vision device and, like everyone else, sat down on a temporary seat, unmoving.

Flying over the Rebel Army-controlled area didn’t take much time, so the tense moment did not last long.

Just over three minutes later, Gao Yang heard the pilot loudly say in Russian, “Gentlemen, I have good news.

We have flown past the danger zone.”

Hearing the pilot’s words, Dani immediately extended his hand to Gao Yang with a big smile, loudly saying, “General, welcome home.” (To be continued.
