Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 1109 - 1109 One Thousand and Ninety-Two Blood Path
1109: Chapter One Thousand and Ninety-Two: Blood Path 1109: Chapter One Thousand and Ninety-Two: Blood Path Cui Bo was starting to panic, shouting in Chinese.
Gao Yang was holding his gun, but after hearing Cui Bo’s screams, he couldn’t help but glance at Cui Bo, then he roared: “It’s your glasses that shattered, not your eyes, stop freaking out!”
Cui Bo snatched off his bulletproof glasses; the right lens of the glasses had been shattered into a web of cracks.
Cui Bo took a breath and shouted loudly, “Curtis, I thought I had gone blind in my right eye!”
With a throw, he discarded the damaged bulletproof glasses and immediately took out a spare pair from his shirt pocket.
Cui Bo had severe myopia, and his bulletproof glasses were specially made prescription glasses; he had no choice but to change them after they were damaged.
Gao Yang roared, “The way back is clear, hurry up and retreat!
I’ll hold off the enemy, don’t panic!”
The last “don’t panic” was actually for himself.
Gao Yang wasn’t a god; he too would panic and be afraid when realizing he was surrounded.
Frey grabbed Andy He and ran towards the direction they came from, but after only a couple of limping steps, Andy He shouted loudly, “No good!
My leg’s been shot through!”
Cui Bo fitted the new glasses onto his face and yelled, “Toad, Postman, can you move?”
Lee Jinfang and Taylor answered Cui Bo with action, supporting each other as they stumbled back.
Seeing they could move, Cui Bo shoved Frey aside, then hoisted Andy He onto his shoulder and started running.
Cui Bo wasn’t very tall or hefty, but in his frantic state, he found a burst of brute strength.
“Bring my rifle!
Ahh!”
Cui Bo yelled and, carrying Andy He on his shoulder, began to run back.
Glolov had already changed his ammunition belt and bellowed, “Fork!
Can you move, Fork?”
Rafael had already changed his nickname, but in a crisis, everyone reverted to calling the names they were familiar with.
Rafael shouted back, “I can move, don’t worry about me!”
Frey picked up the sniper rifle Cui Bo had left behind, slinging the weapon over his left shoulder while holding an MP7 in his right hand, and turned to follow the rest.
No one stayed behind with Gao Yang to cover the rear.
Although Gao Yang was the only one taking on the rear guard role, they trusted him; they knew Gao Yang could handle it.
As everyone else had already run ten meters away, Gao Yang tucked in his gun and turned to run after them.
“Big Bird!”
Gao Yang called out, and Jansen immediately roared back, “There are people heading towards your route of retreat, more than twenty, to your left ahead, encounter after you exit the junction, many are encircling you from all directions!”
From the first shot to their retreat, it had only been forty seconds.
If Lee Jinfang and Taylor hadn’t been trapped in the clearing after being shot, they would have already run quite a distance by now.
The silver lining was that Gao Yang and his team had not fully entered the clearing and had stopped in time.
It was then that Taylor yelled through the radio on his back, “The bomb is about to hit the ground, the laser designator is damaged, and the seeker head doesn’t have time to lock onto the signal, it could land anywhere!”
“Damn it!”
Gao Yang couldn’t help but curse with resentment.
It was a trap.
The laser-guided bomb hitting its target wouldn’t help either.
After the laser-guided bomb had been used twice, Badadi would not be stupid enough to stay in the location given by Justin; most likely, the house Justin had identified was empty to begin with.
But a laser-guided bomb hitting a false target was still better than not knowing where the bomb might fall—even possibly on their own heads.
With Jansen’s drone surveillance covering the entire battlefield, it greatly facilitated their retreat.
The people up ahead were ready to fight, and when they burst out of the house and encountered the incoming enemies, they opened intense fire, taking the enemies down one after another.
“Five coming from behind!”
Informed by Jansen, Gao Yang halted, turned, and knelt on one knee.
As the pursuers appeared, Gao Yang fired before they could, taking down four men one by one.
The fifth man did not show, and Gao Yang turned to continue running.
“The ones setting up the ambush aren’t from the Iron Madonna!
There are many with big beards; they must be from the Caucasus Troops!
Iron Madonna is certainly acting as a mobile reserve force; be careful!”
Gao Yang urgently relayed his findings to the others.
The village was large, and if the enemy were to set an ambush, it wouldn’t be possible to simply set up one ambush spot without knowing where they would enter from beforehand.
Instead, several loopholes would be reserved, and multiple ambush spots needed to be established at key positions.
In that case, the Iron Madonna, who did not have many hands, would inevitably have to act as the mobile force.
Where the Iron Madonna would appear, this judgment should not be wrong.
Leaving behind the most elite and formidable troops to deal the final, fatal blow is a classic tactic in ambush warfare.
They were all veterans seasoned in battle.
By putting themselves in the enemy’s shoes and judging based on what they had discovered, they could easily draw a conclusion.
Luckily for Gao Yang’s group, although they had stumbled into a trap and become prey caught in a snare, the hunters waiting outside the trap were not the Iron Madonna.
Otherwise, even if they had realized something was amiss in time and tried to retreat, they might have had no chance.
Since it was impossible for the Iron Madonna to be confined to one place to set up an ambush ring, one had to worry about the Iron Madonna appearing from any position suddenly.
Gao Yang and his team were caught off guard, but so was the enemy.
If Satan had fully entered the open area, the result would naturally go without saying.
But with only Li Jinfang and Taylor inside the ambush ring, the situation was vastly different—at least Satan had retained enough counter-attack capability instead of being annihilated in the enemy’s first volley.
To make the trap seem more realistic, the enemy couldn’t deploy heavy troops at positions suited for launching an attack.
Therefore, even if Satan decided to retreat, the enemy couldn’t possibly assemble and completely surround Satan right away.
In plain terms, the enemy was still too late in timing.
Satan reacted too swiftly, their movements were fast, and they ran off quickly upon sensing danger.
Even if the Rebel Army had laid an intricate web, they needed time to launch the attack.
Taylor was acting as the communicator, his radio had a high power output, and it was through his radio that they kept in contact with the outside world.
“We’ve been ambushed; it’s a trap set by the enemy.
Get the helicopter to the designated location to pick us up.
Quick, immediately!
Come now!”
Taylor was bellowing when Gao Yang suddenly felt a tremble under his feet.
The trembling happened twice, followed by two massive explosions—the Laser-Guided Bombs had finally hit the ground.
“The bombs landed on the western side of the village!
They didn’t pose any threat to the enemy!”
Without guidance, precision munitions were no different from ordinary aerial bombs.
Although they didn’t hit the enemy’s head, at least they didn’t fall on their own heads.
Gao Yang felt a hint of disappointment, but also some relief.
Gao Yang couldn’t think too much at this point.
All he could hope for now was to run out with everyone intact.
Surviving meant victory.
Being ambushed when attempting a sneak attack and wasting Laser-Guided Bombs was nothing in comparison.
A desperate sprint, but not fast—they had too many wounded.
Li Jinfang and Taylor were injured, Andy He suffered an injury, Rafael was shot, and although the bulletproof vest spared him from losing the ability to move, he still had some difficulty running.
Gao also got shot.
Running made his chest feel like it was on fire, painfully suffocating.
“Pick-ups!
The enemy has deployed pick-ups!
They’re driving towards your evacuation site, four of them, seven of them, F**k!
Can’t count them all!
There are lots of pick-ups!
You need to go faster, even faster!”
The battle had been ongoing for two minutes.
Although there weren’t many enemies around, it seemed the enemy could complete their encirclement soon.
“Grenades!
Rabbit!”
Frey and Rafael were leading the way in front, Cui Bo was carrying Andy He at the front of the group, followed by Li Jinfang and Taylor.
Then came Glolov, with Gao staying in the rear.
It was Glolov who shouted.
A grenade was thrown out from the courtyard wall they had just passed.
Cui Bo tossed Andy He aside and threw himself to the ground; the grenade exploded four meters away from both of them.
Frey turned back and threw four grenades into the courtyard.
Cui Bo first got up, then stood, but immediately fell to the ground again.
Andy He yelled, “F**k!
I got hit again!
Rabbit, where did you get shot?”
Glolov reached out to pull Cui Bo up, but Cui Bo stood up, shook off Glolov’s hand, grabbed Andy He again and hoisted him onto his shoulder, then let out a feral roar, limping and running again.
“Two on the right rooftop!”
Gao Yang shot and hit the enemies as they appeared on the rooftop, shouting, “Not much farther, run, keep running!”
Gao Yang and his team were sprinting on the village’s narrow roads, only about four meters wide, bordered by houses on both sides.
There were no enemy blockades ahead, and no enemies catching up from behind.
But the biggest threat didn’t come from these two directions.
The biggest danger now came from enemies suddenly appearing on the rooftops or walls to either side.
Fortunately, they had Jansen.
Thankfully, they had Jansen.
God bless Satan for having Jansen.
Jansen provided an essential and invaluable God’s-eye view.
Whenever someone appeared on either side, Jansen could detect them beforehand and notify Gao Yang’s team in time.
Thus, Gao Yang and his teammates could gain the upper hand, striking down the enemies just as they appeared.
Another hundred meters, and they could leave the village to reach the open field.
Although the situation wouldn’t necessarily be safer on the open ground, where the enemy could concentrate their fire more easily, if they wanted to survive, they had to leave the village.
Running out was a slim chance of life in the nine-deaths-one-life situation, but if they didn’t run out, they would certainly be dead.
Jansen could see people coming out of the houses on both sides, but he couldn’t detect grenades thrown from inside in time.
Several more grenades were thrown, and after several explosions, Frey finally groaned and shouted loudly, “I’ve been shot!”
On the road where Satan’s men had passed, patches of blood were left behind—both enemy and their own.
It was a literal blood road, a road marked with blood.
