Mercenary’s War
Chapter 1082 - 1082 One Thousand and Sixty-Five Come Out of the Cave

1082: Chapter One Thousand and Sixty-Five: Come Out of the Cave 1082: Chapter One Thousand and Sixty-Five: Come Out of the Cave Gao Yang aimed his rifle at the window from which the recent gunfire had emerged.

The second-story window hadn’t been reinforced with sandbags or anything similar; it had been left in its original state, though the window was quite small.

Despite the pitch darkness inside, Gao Yang still saw a figure dashing past the window.

With a sharp crack of the rifle, Gao Yang accurately hit the fleeting shadow at the window.

Right after he fired, someone suddenly appeared from the adjacent window and shot at him.

Gao Yang didn’t move, and Li Jinfang and Taylor fired simultaneously, their bullets knocking down the silhouette behind the neighbor window.

The one who had been killed wasn’t the same person who had fired earlier, Gao Yang was absolutely certain of that; their movements were different.

The person who had been firing the machine gun earlier was as quick as a ghost, lifting the gun to shoot and then immediately disappearing after a burst, never overreaching, never staying in the same spot, unlike the fool who lingered behind the window to get shot, foolishly exposing himself for more than half a second even though he knew there was a sharpshooter around.

The enemy was starting to panic, they couldn’t drag this out anymore.

Gao Yang decided they had to conserve the helicopter’s ammo to minimize casualties, the only option was to rely on other methods.

“Rifle grenades!

Use rifle grenades, and don’t hold back on the rocket launchers anymore, fire them all!

Get ready and await my command!”

Each member of the special forces team had a disposable rocket launcher, which indeed played a critical role.

Despite the enemy holding a definitive geographical advantage, the rocket launchers enabled them to hold the enemy at bay, trading fire back and forth – the rocket launchers were instrumental.

There were quite a few rocket launchers left, over a dozen still remaining by this point.

Upon Gao Yang’s command, everyone prepared their rifle grenades and rocket launchers.

“The building from which the machine gunner fired, launch four simultaneously, one at each window!

Get ready, fire!”

The rockets were launched together, but one of the shooters had just risen from a kneeling position when a bullet shattered his head.

Fortunately, the rocket launcher operator didn’t fall forward but instead fell backward, avoiding the launch of the rocket onto the ground in front of him and instead sending it skyward as he fell.

Shooting a rocket launcher requires careful attention to the angle – if it’s too steep, the exhaust nozzle points directly to the ground, and the backblast can injure the operator and anyone nearby.

The rocket launcher operator was already dead, no longer at risk of being burned, but one of his nearby comrades was unlucky.

Nevertheless, upon realizing his fellow soldier failed to fire the rocket, the injured soldier quickly stood up, aimed, and fired a rocket into the window that was the intended target.

After the second operator fired the rocket, he was immediately hit by enemy bullets.

Upon spotting the enemy shooter’s location, Gao Yang instantly took out the firing enemy, but all he could do was avenge the fallen soldier.

There was a temporary lull in the offensive.

Gao Yang quickly evaluated the situation; the rocket launchers had an effect, but whether they managed to inflict casualties on the people hiding inside was yet to be seen.

Ultimately, the RPG-26 rocket launcher’s power was insufficient.

A direct hit on firing enemies could ensure casualties, but to achieve indiscriminate bombardment that would eliminate enemies regardless of their hiding places, the RPG-26’s firepower fell far too short.

Whether the attacks were effective or not would have to be tested.

Gao Yang said in a low voice, “Probing attack!”

Farouk called out and charged out with five men, but as soon as Farouk rose to move forward, Gao Yang roared, “Get down!”

Including Farouk, six men went down, and two of them never got up again; the enemy’s shooting was precise and deadly.

The worst part was it came from different directions.

A forced attack was no longer feasible – it was not a matter of casualties, as a forced attack would most likely lead to annihilation before they could even reach their objective.

They needed another plan.

After only a moment’s hesitation, Gao Yang finally commanded in a grave tone, “Mask up!

Use Skunk Bombs!

Anyone with Skunk Rifle Grenades, load them and await my command!”

Gao Yang had finally decided to use Skunk Bombs, despite the significant trouble that came with it.

It wasn’t the fear of being covered in a foul stench – compared to losing lives, Gao Yang would rather smell foul.

The key issue was that aside from a few directly under the Satan Mercenary Corps, others didn’t have gas masks, especially not ones that could effectively block the stench.

Special forces and Military Intelligence Directorate Action Team members simply couldn’t enter buildings where Skunk Bombs had been used, which meant, once Skunk Bombs were deployed, Gao Yang and his team would have to advance themselves.

There was another problematic issue.

Gao Yang had plenty of handheld Skunk Bombs, but the Skunk Rifle Grenades were much fewer in number; only those who had grenade launchers equipped on their rifles carried them.

Using Skunk Bombs to flush out the enemy from buildings was not part of the original plan, but since the assault was stalled, they had to be used – one needs to be flexible in battle.

Li Jinfang ejected his high-explosive grenade and loaded a Skunk Bomb instead, then whispered, “Ready!”

Gao Yang spoke into the radio with a stern voice, “Everyone, pay attention – the enemy might launch an attack from the second floor.

Be careful.”

After that, Gao Yang said to Li Jinfang, “Toad, fire one at the building where the machine gunner was just now.”

Li Jinfang raised his rifle and began to aim carefully.

The rifle grenade was a weapon with power and range somewhere between a hand grenade and a 60mm mortar.

Although considered an area-effect weapon, hitting the target with rifle grenades – especially ones mounted onto rifles as opposed to specialized grenade launchers – required considerable effort.

Satan rarely used rifle grenades, mainly because they seemed rather superfluous.

For close range, there were grenades, and for long range, mortars.

Moreover, precise shooters were assigned to use both.

To achieve accuracy with rifle grenades, a dedicated grenade launcher was needed, which added to the load and wasn’t worth carrying around.

At a distance of eighty meters from the target, this range was neither near nor far.

To accurately shoot a rifle grenade through a window using an attached grenade launcher, which only allowed for approximate aiming, was actually quite difficult.

If they hadn’t been so far away, Gao Yang would have already ordered the use of Skunk Bombs to drive the enemy out.

These gadgets, once deployed, were effective even if the enemy had gas masks—unless they were wearing full-body nuclear biochemical protective suits.

Ordinary gas masks couldn’t filter the unbearable stench.

But the problem was the distance was too great, and there was no guarantee that rifle grenades could be shot precisely into windows.

Gao Yang preferred advancing a few more meters, as Frey’s grenades could then do the job much more easily.

Frey was much more reliable when it came to throwing grenades compared to shooting rifle grenades, but there was no choice as they were out of reach.

So, Gao Yang had to opt for using rifle grenades earlier.

Li Jinfang finally fired the rifle grenade.

Skunk Bombs had no trajectory indicator or explosive flash, so Gao Yang didn’t know if the grenade had made it into the window.

Moreover, they were under enemy gunfire, and he didn’t dare stick his neck out just to watch.

For a moment, Gao Yang didn’t know where the grenade had landed.

Finally, Jansen provided the answer, his voice urgent over the radio: “Rifle grenade hit accurately, rifle grenade hit the target accurately!”

Gao Yang let out a sigh of relief and began waiting for someone to run out of the house.

After about twenty seconds, no one had rushed out from the house, but Glolov, who had been keeping watch in the air, opened fire.

Moments later, Glolov urgently reported, “The enemy jumped out from the exterior windows; four individuals, all neutralized.”

Gao Yang asked in a deep voice, “Was there a machine gunner?”

“Yes, someone was carrying a machine gun, looks like an M249.”

That confirmed it.

The person who was firing moments ago was using an M249, finally eliminating a very threatening machine gunner.

Gao Yang exhaled, then whispered, “Who has a rifle grenade ready?

Continue.”

“I’m Wild Man.

I have a rifle grenade ready to fire.

Just mark the target.”

Gao Yang looked around and located a building that had seen activity and which he had designated as a key target.

He then commanded in a stern tone, “The house to the right of where we exchanged fire, the sixth one.

Try to hit the skunk bomb into the first floor.

Can you do that?”

“That’s hard.”

“Then hit the second floor.”

“Understood.”

Gao Yang shifted slightly behind the pile of rubbish to get a better shooting angle at the new target and commanded in a deep voice, “Fire!”

With a soft ‘bang’, Gao Yang saw a small explosion near a second-floor window of the target building.

The rifle grenade missed by twenty centimeters, failing to enter through the window.

“F**k, missed it!”

Wild Man was annoyed, but Gao Yang said nothing.

It was normal to miss such a small window.

He just ordered firmly, “Next one, keep firing!”

“I’m Tiger, I’ll take the next shot.”

After waiting a few seconds, Tiger’s rifle grenade went for the same window, and this time Gao Yang didn’t see the small explosion that would indicate the deployment of the aerosol.

It must have gone in.

“Yay!

It got in!”

The Skunk Bomb had gone in, but it was unclear how effective it would be after hitting the second floor.

If the enemy shut the door, the stench might not be strong enough to drive everyone out.

However, just a few seconds later, Gao Yang was at ease, he raised his gun, opened fire, and a man jumping down from the second floor was taken out by Gao Yang before hitting the ground.

Four individuals rushed out the door at the same time, firing as they fled from the building.

Unfortunately, too many guns were aimed at them.

Where could they run?

Glolov also shouted urgently, “Lots of people!

A lot of people came out, eight of them, all neutralized.

Continue, drive them all out!”

The Skunk Bomb was spot on.

Gao Yang commanded in a stern tone, “Next one, carry on.

Smoke these rats out of their holes one by one.

Who still has rifle grenades?”

Li Yunzhe voiced eagerly, “Me, Huang Huo, I’ll go next.

I’ve got two Skunk Bombs.

Watch me this time.” (To be continued.
