Chapter 1066 - 1066 One Thousand and Forty-Nine Pulling Out the Radish Brings Up the Mud

1066: Chapter One Thousand and Forty-Nine: Pulling Out the Radish Brings Up the Mud 1066: Chapter One Thousand and Forty-Nine: Pulling Out the Radish Brings Up the Mud “Karima Njem, Lebanese, Miss Lebanon 2005, participated in the world beauty pageant in 2007.”

Gao Yang already knew what Dani was talking about, but he did not interrupt him because he knew Dani would definitely reveal something he didn’t know.

Dani spread his hands and said, “Normally, after achieving favorable results in beauty pageants, Karima should either marry a rich person or try her luck in Europe.

That would be the norm.

However, Karima chose a different path.

She decided to develop her career in the entertainment industry.”

Gao Yang nodded and said, “Yes, I mentioned that she used to be a singer.”

Dani waved his hand and said, “No, it’s more complicated than you think.

Karima first went to Europe, where she had a modeling career in Italy and France.

However, that career wasn’t very successful, so in 2008, Karima returned to Lebanon.

She started singing and acting in movies.

She took roles in two low-budget films in Europe, but her roles were not significant.

Then, it was not until 2009, when she demonstrated her musical talents, that she became a singing star in Lebanon.”

Dani mentioned some things that Gao Yang didn’t know because they couldn’t be found online.

Karima Njem, also known as Haifa, only had some influence in Lebanon, not much worldwide reach, so the news coverage wasn’t overwhelming.

Dani said in a grave tone, “After becoming a singing star in Lebanon, Karima Njem would often go to Europe but never stay for long.

We do not know what she specifically did in Europe.

The turning point came in the summer of 2011.

Someone began to contact Karima Njem, and then by the end of 2011, Karima Njem suddenly disappeared in Lebanon without any record of her leaving the country.”

After taking a deep breath, Gao Yang said, “You discovered who that person who contacted her was, right?”

Dani smiled, snapped his fingers, and said gravely, “Yes, actually we didn’t have to look very hard.

I just had our colleagues in Lebanon investigate Karima Njem, and they provided me with a file.”

Surprised, Gao Yang said, “A file?

You mean to say the Syrian Military Intelligence Bureau compiled a file on Karima Njem?

This means you’ve been monitoring her all along?”

Dani nodded, speaking solemnly, “Yes, Karima Njem went to Europe in early summer 2011, stayed there for about half a month, and after returning from Europe, a man began having frequent contact with her.

It was that man who caught the attention of my Lebanese colleagues because that man is from the Shah Intelligence Agency.”

Gao Yang frowned and said, “A Shah intelligence operative?”

Dani nodded, “Yes, a Shah intelligence operative.

It was because of Karima Njem’s frequent contact with a Shah intelligence operative that we started monitoring her.

Their contact didn’t last long or happen often, but in October 2011, that Shah intelligence operative reappeared in Lebanon, and then, in early November, Karima Njem suddenly vanished.”

Gao Yang let out a breath and said, “It’s complicated, but at least there’s some progress.”

Dani spread his hands and said, “Our surveillance of Karima Njem was preliminary; after all, she wasn’t a subject requiring special attention.

The surveillance resources we employed were limited, hence when Karima Njem suddenly disappeared, we had no idea where she went.

She might be dead or might have gone somewhere.

According to the assessment from the Lebanese side, it’s highly likely that Karima Njem had left the country, even though there’s no record of her departure in Lebanon.

So, I’m guessing she might have been taken to Shah by the Shah intelligence operative, but of course, that’s just my personal speculation.”

Gao Yang chuckled and said, “You must have a photo of that Shah person, right?”

Dani smiled, pointed at Gao Yang, then casually took his briefcase and pulled out a stack of photos, saying with a laugh, “I’ve told them about your situation.

This time, the people from Lebanon conveniently sent all the files over, and I brought them all to you.

Here are the photos and the intel on that Shah man, all for you.”

Gao Yang took the photos and was about to thank Dani with a grin, but as he looked at a stack of photos in front of him, Gao Yang suddenly stood up.

After standing up, Gao Yang’s mind was a mess, and Dani was also startled by Gao Yang’s overreaction, asking urgently, “What’s wrong?”

After cursing himself for not being calm enough, Gao Yang sat back down and took a close look at the photo of the man caught on candid camera with Karima Njem.

After flipping through a few more photos, he was sure of what he had discovered.

Gao Yang’s breathing became rapid as he said in a deep voice, “I have a personal vendetta with this man; I’ve been searching for him.”

The man in the photo, Gao Yang had seen him before.

It was when he was in Iraq to receive the shipment that ended up costing Bruce his life, the Bedouin with the big beard who brought the convoy to meet with Gao Yang at the Baghdad Suburban Roundabout.

After taking a deep breath, Gao Yang pointed to the photo of Big Beard and said, “Who is this person?”

Dani said solemnly, “Ben Ali, a Shah Intelligence Agency operative, his exact position is unclear, but he has been very active in recent years.

He has been frequently present in Iraq, and also, in the war in our country, this man has been involved; he’s had frequent contacts with the Rebel Army.”

Gao Yang nodded, “Yes, this guy is definitely in frequent contact with the Rebel Army; he’s providing direct support to the rebels within Syria.”

Dani nodded but said nothing more.

Unable to sit still any longer, Gao Yang stood up and started pacing back and forth in the room.

Gao Yang had always suspected that the chemical weapons were provided by Saudi Arabia.

It was no secret that Saudi Arabia wanted to overthrow the current regime in Syria, but knowing was one thing; Gao Yang couldn’t do anything about it.

But now, Gao Yang knew the identity of a direct perpetrator, the Saudi Arabian who handed over the chemical weapons to them, then sent them off to their deaths.

His name was Ben Ali.

What’s more unbelievable was that Karima Njem seemed to have formed a connection with Ben Ali.

Gao Yang had a general outline in mind, though he wasn’t certain yet; if his guess came true, Number Thirteen would never see his sister again in this lifetime.

Gao Yang felt very irritated.

After pacing back and forth twice, he managed to restrain his impatience, sat down again, and said in a deep voice, “Alright, let’s continue.

You don’t know where Karima Njem is at the moment, right?”

Dani shrugged and said, “Unfortunately, that’s the case.”

“What about this Ben Ali?”

“We don’t know his whereabouts either.

At the moment, we can no longer take care of matters outside of Syria.

Our operations in Lebanon are still ongoing, but for other countries, we simply don’t have the resources.

Moreover, we are now in a de facto state of hostility with Saudi Arabia; both parties are very cautious of each other.”

Gao Yang nodded, waved the photo in his hand at Dani, and asked with a deep voice, “Can I take it with me?”

Dani thought for a moment and said, “You can take some.

Leave me the rest, as there are no copies or reprints of these.”

Gao Yang didn’t need too many photos.

He responded with a deep voice, “Alright, I’ll take a look first.

I’ll leave a few and return the rest to you later.”

Dani nodded, then took another stack of documents out of his briefcase and said seriously, “Detailed written records.

Take one copy to seal, and then return it to me.”

After receiving the documents, Gao Yang looked at Dani and said, “Thank you very much.

You’ve done me a great favor.

But this won’t cause you any trouble, will it?”

Dani smiled and replied, “No, it’s just a small matter.”

Gao Yang immediately stood up and said, “I need to step out for a bit.

I’ll look for you later.”

Gao Yang left Dani’s place in a hurry.

After returning to his own room, he instructed his orderly in a serious tone, “You guard the door, and anyone who comes must report first.”

After informing the orderly, Gao Yang entered his inner office and then said to the busy people inside, “Shadow, take them out for a while.

Don’t come back until I call you.

Leonard, you stay.”

Yake stood up, signaled to his two assistants, and soon, only Gao Yang and Number Thirteen were left in the conference room.

Number Thirteen looked calmly at Gao Yang standing in front of his desk and asked, “What is it?”

Gao Yang didn’t speak; only after hearing the door close did he place the documents and photos in front of Number Thirteen and said seriously, “This is the intelligence I asked Dani to find.”

Number Thirteen glanced at the photo, finally showing signs of excitement.

After flipping through a few meaningless photos, he put them down and quickly started looking through the documents.

Number Thirteen was quick at reviewing materials as he was trained in speed reading.

It didn’t take long for Number Thirteen to suddenly exclaim in surprise, “An intelligence operative?

Why is it an intelligence operative again!”

Gao Yang said nothing, just waiting intently for Number Thirteen to finish reading the documents.

Number Thirteen placed the documents on the desk and took a deep breath before saying calmly, “I see, no wonder her tracks vanished; there were professionals erasing her traces.”

Gao Yang said solemnly, “Are you not the least bit excited?”

Number Thirteen looked at Gao Yang, still calm, and said, “Right now, I’m so excited that I could die; it’s just that I won’t let you see it.

What’s going on?

You seem equally excited.”

Gao Yang said gravely, “I can’t help being excited.

You know why I’m here fighting.

Bruce’s death is connected to that person in the photo.

Tomler introduced us, the IS were the ones who received the goods and directly attacked us.

And that person in the photo, he is the provider of the chemical weapons, and perhaps also the issuer of our next mission.

So, tell me, should I not be excited?”

Finally, a serious expression appeared on Number Thirteen’s face.

He slowly said, “Things seem to be getting more complicated.

I need to think carefully, really carefully.” (To be continued.
