Mercenary’s War
Chapter 1064 - 1064 One Thousand and Forty-Seven Enough Already

1064: Chapter One Thousand and Forty-Seven Enough Already 1064: Chapter One Thousand and Forty-Seven Enough Already Amidst the complaints from Gao Yang and the other two, the people escorting the captives began to return.

Each squad captured some prisoners; it was just a question of how many.

The squad that caught the most brought back seventeen people, and even the squad with the fewest also captured two.

After everyone returned, Gao Yang descended from the roof and waved his hand, signaling people to first establish a defensive perimeter.

He then pointed at Dani’s shoulder.

Once Dani turned off the cameras mounted on his shoulder and head, Gao Yang moved in front of him and whispered, “How’s it going?”

Dani was so excited he could barely contain himself.

He trembled as he said, “This is a huge success, truly fantastic.

Loads of prisoners.

Ironclad evidence of Turkey and France meddling in our internal affairs and also leverage for negotiations with Turkey and France.

All in all, this operation was a tremendous success.”

Dani was very excited, but Gao Yang half-jokingly, half-seriously said, “The results are not bad, but buddy, the intelligence you provided was way off from the reality.

You said there were just over forty people, but there are at least a hundred here, and with Turks and French among them!

Such critical intelligence was so wildly wrong; if we hadn’t come with laser-guided bombs, we wouldn’t be the ones laughing now.”

Dani forced a bitter smile and replied, “Well, that’s how intelligence work is, it’s inevitable to have slip-ups.

I’ll give them a harsh lesson when we get back.

But the outcome was good, and that’s what matters.”

Gao Yang nodded and pointed toward the prisoners, “What do you plan to do with them?”

Dani waved his hand and declared, “Take them back, we must take them back.

These captives are too valuable.”

Gao Yang frowned, “There are at least fifty prisoners.

Take them all back?”

Dani also frowned and said, “Most are ordinary soldiers from the Rebel Army, their command staff have already been taken away.

The rest here aren’t of much value, but what to do with them?”

Gao Yang spread his hands and asked, “Is the camera off?”

“It’s off.”

“That’s good.

Pick out the ones you think are valuable, but don’t exceed our carrying capacity.

Don’t worry about the rest.”

Dani wasn’t dumb; he knew what Gao Yang meant.

Dani waved his hand, directing his men to select the valuable prisoners.

Those considered valuable were basically foreigners—sixteen French and five Turks.

The French prisoners obediently lined up on one side, but the four Turkish prisoners were not so cooperative.

However, after being knocked down with a couple of gunstock strikes, they no longer posed any problems.

The operation team pulled out white plastic zip-ties, which were used as a substitute for handcuffs and were specifically used for binding; the prisoners’ hands were tied behind their backs, the short ones for wrists, the long ones for legs.

The operation team had rehearsed binding people many times and were very proficient.

Wrists were bound, ankles were tied, then the knees and thighs were each cinched with another zip-tie, ensuring no one could break free.

Seeing the zip-ties used by the operation team, Gao Yang’s eyes lit up, “This is neat, lightweight, and very useful.

Give me some later.”

Dani laughed heartily, “No problem, these are cheap and plentiful.

You can have as many as you want, I can send you tens of thousands if needed.”

Looking at the prisoners wrapped up like rice dumplings, Gao Yang wryly said, “We can’t wait for the airport to send another plane, we have to overload.

Shadow stays with us, you take the prisoners and leave.

Those that don’t fit in the Mi-17, pull them with the Mi-24.”

Dani thought for a moment and replied, “We have twenty people.

It’s no problem for the Mi-17 to squeeze in thirty-one people, and the Mi-24 can carry ten.

Easy to resolve.”

Once he finished speaking, Dani waved his hand, “Transport the prisoners in the Mi-17 and leave.

Eleven people to guard the captives, the rest to ride in the Mi-24.”

Gao Yang also spoke into the walkie-talkie, “Night Demon Two, use up the ammo and come down to transport people.”

Watching as the prisoners were loaded onto the plane, the fate of the remaining thirty or so captives, who were evidently rank-and-file from the Rebel Army, was not so fortunate.

Gao Yang never expected someone captured alive would spare his life, so he had no qualms about how he treated the captives now.

He pointed at the captives lying on the ground, then quietly asked, “Won’t you select and confirm once more?”

Dani shook his head, “No time.

These people aren’t worth wasting time on, and it’s not worth it to have the airport send another plane.”

Gao Yang shrugged, “Got it, you can go.”

After Dani boarded the helicopter and left, and as he watched the helicopter fly away, Gao Yang extended his hand to the people looking at him and then swiped it across his neck several times.

Red Feather, holding a gun and watching the captives, nodded and then made a hand gesture.

Killing prisoners is not something to boast about, nor is it something to feel guilty about.

It’s not like you can be merciful to the enemy.

The Geneva Convention is for publicity; when it comes to action, you must eradicate the root of potential problems.

No one is a fool.

If these prisoners were released, they would pick up their weapons again.

For mercenaries, not taking prisoners is the rule of thumb.

Thus, after Gao Yang made the throat-slitting gesture, those setting up the defensive perimeter didn’t move, but those guarding the prisoners with guns quickly raised their weapons.

Red Feather, Eagle Claw, Clown, Tiger, Flyer, Loach; those who were guarding the prisoners didn’t hesitate to shoot the kneeling prisoners.

The sound of gunfire rang out continuously, and the prisoners fell to the ground one by one.

In just a moment, there was a pile of dead bodies.

Gao Yang’s expression remained unchanged.

After giving the corpses on the ground a glance, he shouted, “Let’s go, don’t wait for the enemy reinforcements to arrive.”

Gao Yang waved his hand, and everyone quickly ran towards the plane on the ground.

Once everyone was on board, the helicopter took off swiftly, heading back to the airfield.

After the helicopter took off and reached a safe area, Gao Yang asked Taylor, “Is there a Sea Eagle left here?”

Taylor nodded and said, “One Sea Eagle with bombs stayed behind.

I’ll notify it to return.”

While Taylor was using the radio to instruct the circling combat bomber to return, Yake disdainfully said, “Who came up with these codenames?

Sea Eagle, Falcon, they’re lame.”

Gao Yang cleared his throat twice as a sign that he was the one who came up with the codenames.

Yake then looked at his boss Gao Yang, who paid the salaries, and held back from further mocking the codenames, but he suddenly changed the topic and exclaimed loudly, “Ha, saw the French surrendering again today.

Hey, why do I say ‘again’?”

Everyone laughed, except for Blue Shield, who looked unhappy and said, “Heh, Brit, I’m also French.”

Yake glanced at Blue Shield and turned his head, saying, “You’re the exception; you’re a rare Frenchman who knows how to fight.

Once you became a mercenary, you were no longer part of the French military.”

Blue Shield looked distressed, but there wasn’t much he could say.

His compatriots surrendered early, so what could he argue?

Andy He boasted proudly, “Ha, those wastes from the 11th Airborne Division, some rapid response force my ass.

Wherever they go, they mess it up.

They can only bully those who know nothing in places like Libya and Central Africa.

For tough fights, they rely on us, the Airborne Soldiers, the French Foreign Legion 2nd Parachute Regiment, we’re the face of France, the army, it’s all about us!”

Yake looked at Andy He and asked loudly, “You’re from the French Foreign Legion?”

Andy He held his head high and said, “That’s right.”

Yake grinned and said, “The Legion is not bad because you’re all foreigners.

But you know why the foreign legion hasn’t had any significant victories in recent years?

Because your commanders are still French.

However, when Legion members become mercenaries, they perform quite well.”

Blue Shield, looking glum, said, “Hey, enough already.”

Brits and French are natural enemies, and France has been repeatedly tricked by the British stir-stick.

Mutual insults between their peoples couldn’t be more normal.

But to mock the French in front of a fellow Frenchman in the team was indeed lacking in tact.

Yake, with his sharp tongue, would not go too far or do anything to harm team cooperation.

He shrugged his shoulders and said loudly, “Guys, we’re lucky today, huh?

Who’s the one that got hit by a bullet and neither died nor got hurt?

Speak up.

You’re buying drinks.”

Surviving a gunshot unharmed is indeed good luck, and it’s customary to treat everyone to a good drink.

As Yake said this, several people started to smile.

Flyer laughed and said, “I’m too lucky; I thought I was a goner, but the bullet didn’t go through when I checked, wow, that feeling, just marvelous.”

Shotgun moaned, “I don’t find it so marvelous; I was scared silly at the moment, F**k, even if it’s just a submachine gun, it hurts a lot.”

Gao Yang laughed and said, “Alright, you four are lucky enough.

All of you got shot in the torso.

If you were hit in the head, neck, or thigh, you’d be crying by now.

Stop talking, let’s go back and you’re treating.”

Alcohol spread his hands, looking helpless and said, “I’m happy to treat, but where can you tell me to find drinks?”

Red Feather slapped Alcohol on the back and shouted loudly, “Then after we leave Syria, you’ll treat.

I hate countries with alcohol bans, really hate them.

We’ll have a good drink once we’re out.”

It was a great victory, and Gao Yang also wanted to show his appreciation, especially to those who had been shot.

As everyone cheered for Red Feather’s words, Gao Yang clapped his hands and said, “Alright, the four of you who were shot, and Red Feather, you too, weren’t you injured by a grenade?

I’ll give each of you ten thousand US dollars as a consolation prize.”

There was another round of laughter and cheering.

After the cheering subsided, Ludwig shouted, “Boss, don’t always pay out of your pocket.

We had a great victory today, getting some cash to spend is the most solid reward.”

Gao Yang replied irritably, “You think I don’t want to?”

Yake nodded at Gao Yang and laughed, “You won’t get the money, but after this battle, you’ll be promoted again.

With one more promotion, you’ll be a General.

It’s not bad to be a General.”

Gao Yang was still irritable and said, “Honorary rank, what’s the use of that crap?

Do you want it?

If you want, I’ll give it to you.”

Yake shrugged and said, “If you could give it to me, I really would take it.

Too bad, though, a rank is not something you can give, and I can’t get it.

Actually, an honorary rank isn’t too bad.

At least in Syria, everyone has to salute and call you General when they see you.

Think about it, it’s pretty cool.

Hmm, you’ll understand once you become a General, even an honorary one feels pretty good.”
