Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 1046 - 1046 One Thousand Thirty Again
1046: Chapter One Thousand Thirty: Again 1046: Chapter One Thousand Thirty: Again A group of Russians, as if seeing a glimmer of hope cast upon them, suddenly grew restless.
One of them clenched his fist and whispered, “Thank God, bless us!”
The voice of the Russian was a bit loud.
At this moment, Gilanor’s face changed drastically, and he waved his hands frantically, whispering urgently, “Damn it, don’t talk, shut up, keep it down, that doctor has a terrible temper, he’s already driven away three doctors, let’s get out of here, quietly, quietly leave this place.”
A group of burly men tiptoed away from the operating room as stealthily as though they were thieves.
They had never been this careful even when they needed to take cover from the enemy.
After leaving the vicinity of the operating room and returning to the waiting area in the corridor, Gilanor gently closed the corridor door once everyone was out.
After closing the door, Gilanor finally took a breath but still spoke in a low voice, “It’s terrifying, Dragon Knight becomes a completely different person when he’s performing surgery.”
Peter said with a trembling voice, “Do you think, do you think it will be successful?”
Gilanor touched his chin with difficulty and said, “I don’t really understand, but I think it should, probably because I just feel that Dragon Knight can definitely do it.
I don’t know what you guys think, but I’ve always felt that those with great abilities have great tempers too.
Also, I just have this feeling, this strong belief that Dragon Knight can definitely save your friend.”
Peter, as if injected with a dose of cardiac stimulant, nodded repeatedly.
At this time, a few Russians, as if anesthetizing themselves, echoed Gilanor’s words one after another, “That’s right, that’s how it is, those with great abilities have great tempers, that’s always the case.”
“That’s right, exactly, no mistake, I know it, definitely no mistake.
What’s the name of that doctor?
Dragon Knight, Dragon Knight!
I believe he can definitely save our captain; I have a very strong feeling.”
A few Russians saw hope, which excited them, but after waiting for a long time, they also grew more anxious.
Peter paced back and forth on the spot, and after a glance at his watch, he exclaimed anxiously, “It’s already three in the morning, why isn’t it over yet, why hasn’t it ended.”
Gao Yang cleared his throat and said, “Keep calm.”
Peter immediately responded, “Right, right, stay calm, everything will definitely be alright.”
Their tension eased temporarily, but the calm did not last long.
Gao Yang and the others suddenly heard a commotion coming from the direction of the operating room.
Everyone jumped to their feet, then they heard Andy He’s strained shouting, “Switch the damn ventilator now!
F**k!
What the hell is this crap!”
It was definitely not good news.
Peter’s face turned pale and he pushed open the corridor door with a bang.
Several people in surgical attire rushed out and one doctor shouted, “This one, the ventilator in this operating room is working fine!”
Two doctors crazily burst into an operating room, and soon after, they hurriedly pushed out a ventilator that maintained breathing.
Peter’s fingers whitened with the grip on the door frame, just staring blankly in the direction of the operating room.
Gao Yang gave Peter a push, and then they quietly approached the entrance of the operating room again.
This time, Andy He’s voice rose again, but he did not sound angry; instead, he was very calm and collected, and spoke softly, so Gao Yang and the others only caught snippets of what was said, which were not very clear.
Unfortunately, what Andy described was the worst possible news.
“The heart has stopped, prepare for cardiac resuscitation, okay, 1, 2, 3, repeat, one more time, 1, 2, 3!
One more time!”
Gao Yang didn’t know what was happening inside, but his heart sank; cardiac arrest means the heart had stopped beating.
Although it’s not yet considered clinical death in medical terms, given the victim’s condition, Gao Yang didn’t believe Palyuka could come back to life.
Peter tightened his grip on the doors, lowered his head, and hung motionless.
Andy He’s voice came from inside again; this time slightly louder, yet still very calm and composed.
“The ventilator is working now, continue cardiac resuscitation, again!”
After a few more seconds, Andy He suddenly raised his voice, shouting, “Who told you to stop!
It’s not time to give up, continue!”
Andy He raised his voice, but this time he did not sound angry, but rather full of authority, or rather, his words could inspire confidence and hope.
Gao Yang clenched his fists, pressed his teeth together, and said in a low voice, “Palyuka, don’t give up!”
Gao Yang’s words reminded Peter, who suddenly raised his head and shouted, “Palyuka!
Don’t give up!
Come back to life, come back!”
After Peter yelled, Gao Yang was startled and then turned to Peter, finding him with tears streaming down his face.
If shouting could bring someone back to life, doctors would be unnecessary.
Of course, Peter’s shouting did no good; the only thing heard in the corridor was Andy He’s voice once more, calmly saying, “Again!”
“Again!”
“Again!”
Gao Yang was counting, and Andy He had already said “again” for the eighth time.
“Again!”
It was the ninth time, and Gao Yang was already in despair.
Peter knelt down powerlessly on the ground, and Gao Yang, unable to bear the sight, turned to leave.
“The heart has started beating, monitor the blood pressure, continue the surgery!”
Andy He’s voice rang out again, clearly audible in the silent corridor.
Gao Yang abruptly turned back, and although the person inside had nothing to do with him, he still felt a surge of ecstasy.
Everyone was petrified again, and then they heard Andy He continue with a steady and calm voice: “No more complications, manage your work, prepare more plasma, everyone outside get lost, no more screaming.”
The last two sentences were aimed at those outside.
Hearing Andy He’s words, the group was shocked and horrified, pursing their lips tightly, not even daring to breathe heavily.
They tiptoed back to the isolation area.
Back in the corridor, a few people still felt unsafe and walked even further away before they collectively exhaled deeply.
Following that, Peter wiped his face and said solemnly, “I thought I had lost my best friend forever.”
Since the moment Gao Yang helplessly watched Bruce convulsing on top of a chemical rocket and had to turn away, his endurance had diminished.
A group of people who shared life and death could only wait powerlessly for the moment their comrade might pass away.
He couldn’t stand such scenes, enemies being the exception, of course.
These Russians had nothing to do with Gao Yang, but they weren’t enemies either.
Perhaps it was sympathy, or he didn’t want to evoke unbearable memories, or he simply didn’t want Andy He’s efforts to be in vain.
Regardless, Gao Yang truly hoped that Palyuka would survive.
Patting Peter on the shoulder, Gao Yang whispered, “Anyway, there’s hope again now.
Pray for your friend.”
Another half hour passed, and Gao Yang heard hasty footsteps.
Soon, Farouk opened the isolation door from the inside.
Seeing the group standing outside, Farouk was startled, but then he said to Dani, “Go find the hospital staff, have them deliver chocolate and stimulant drinks at top speed, these aren’t prepared in the operating room, and get clothes ready for Dragon Knight, underwear and overcoat, spares not needed in the OR, be quick, I need to find a nurse for disinfection measures, and someone to feed Dragon Knight.”
Farouk hurriedly left after speaking.
That’s when Peter asked in a trembling voice, “How are things inside?”
Farouk answered urgently, “The situation is stabilized, but it’s still uncertain when it will be over.”
Dani waved his hand and left in a hurry with Farouk.
They needed to find what Andy He required.
Soon, Farouk returned with a nurse, but they immediately entered the OR.
Then, after another ten minutes or so, Dani and someone from the hospital rushed back carrying a bunch of items.
“Military chocolate, and bags of glucose injection solution!”
Dani didn’t stop, urgently telling Gao Yang before running to the OR entrance.
He handed the items to a waiting nurse outside, who, after disinfecting, would deliver them to Andy He and feed him.
Dani returned again, the person who came with him handed Dani a bag and immediately departed.
Dani then handed the bag to Gao Yang, saying, “There’s a set of military uniform inside, including underwear.”
Gao Yang took the bag, and one of the Russians, puzzled, asked, “Why clothes?”
Several Russians looked at their comrade as if he were an idiot.
Without waiting for Gao Yang to explain, Peter lamented in Russian, “The doctor has been in there for ten hours now.
If he wants to go to the toilet, he can only pee in his pants.”
One of the Russians who came with Peter said softly, “He hasn’t had any food or water since noon.”
Not knowing when they would be deployed again, Gao Yang couldn’t just wait with the Russians.
While waiting, he leaned back in his chair, dozed off for a moment, and when he woke up, he found daylight shining through the corridor—it was already morning.
Dani was snoring faintly while leaning on his chair, Gilanor had his head down, and Li Jinfang sat upright with his eyes closed, uncertain if he was asleep.
Gao Yang checked his watch; it was 7 in the morning.
He had slept for nearly three hours.
The surgery had been ongoing since nearly 6 p.m.
the previous day, lasting for thirteen hours now.
None of the Russians could sit down; they remained standing.
Even though he was awake, Gao Yang couldn’t go back to sleep.
He sat in the chair, resting with his eyes closed, and then more than an hour passed.
Suddenly, Gao Yang heard a commotion.
Opening his eyes, he saw Peter and others blocking the isolation door anxiously.
Gao Yang looked up to see the light above the isolation door, which indicated the surgery was in progress, had finally turned off.
Uncontrollably, Gao Yang stood up, waiting for the news from inside the OR.
