Discard clothes, discard boots, bathe, wipe night vision devices, clean guns, clean walkie-talkies, wash what needs washing, throw away what can be thrown, and wipe what can be wiped.
Skunk bombs aren’t to the degree of defying the heavens; getting sprayed directly in the face is definitely a fate worse than death, but just walking in an air filled with its stench won’t make the smell linger for too long.
However, the ground crew certainly had it rough, assigned to clean the cabin to meet their doom.
Anyone who had the luck to enter the Mi-17 cabin would walk in and run out, then inevitably vomit—a normal occurrence.
Those with weaker resistance even fainted inside.
Before heading out, Gao Yang sniffed himself over and over again, then sprayed perfume over and over again, but he always felt that he still emitted a faint rotten stench.
When Gao Yang left the office and arrived at the dining hall, he was almost knocked over by the heavy perfume smell.
Gao Yang instinctively sniffed and noticed that everyone was twitching their noses neurotically.
He listlessly sat down on a chair, looked at Li Qiu who was also sitting, and asked loudly, “Who’s cooking today?
Aren’t we supposed to go eat at the main cafeteria since we’re not cooking ourselves?”
Li Qiu returned a helpless glance and said, “Airport chefs.”
Gilanor said with an embarrassed face, “Well, the colonel said it would be more appropriate to cook separately for you, um, just like that.”
Gao Yang waved his arm seriously at Gilanor and asked, “Do I stink… or what?”>
Gilanor, with a serious face, said, “No stink, just…
you’re too fragrant!”
Gao Yang wasn’t used to using perfume; it was his first time in his life, and many people in the Middle East have the habit of using perfume to mask body odor, so Gao Yang just borrowed a bottle.
Finally, Gilanor couldn’t hold back anymore and looked at Gao Yang, “Did you finish using it?”
Gao Yang’s perfume was borrowed from Gilanor, and hearing Gilanor’s words, Gao Yang smiled awkwardly and said, “Um, no, didn’t finish it, there’s still a bit left at the bottom.”
Gilanor covered his face with his hand, weakly saying, “That’s a designer perfume.
I bought it and could barely bring myself to use it, there’s plenty of it still.”
Gao Yang, with a compensating smile, said, “I’ll send you a few bottles later, really, I will send you a few bottles of designer men’s perfume.”
Just then, Dani rushed in with documents and then plopped down next to Gao Yang.
Dani’s face had been beaming with a smile these past few days.
After sitting next to Gao Yang, Dani leaned in with a beaming smile and whispered, “I’ll tell you later, good news, great news, we’ll discuss it in detail in your office later.”
How could he not be happy?
Gao Yang and his crew had rested for quite some time, and when they got back in action, it was a major operation, a huge victory.
A major operation was one thing, but three big victories in two days, with that frequency, plus the significance of the victories, anyone remotely involved was ecstatic.
The happiest of all was Farouk; he was so busy he barely had time to eat.
It wasn’t just about selecting personnel; just giving reports to his superiors of all levels kept him nonstop.
Rafael walked in leisurely.
Upon reaching the entrance of the small dining room, he subconsciously stood at the door and then involuntarily began to observe the expressions on people’s faces.
Gao Yang couldn’t help but sniff, because among the suffocatingly rich perfume smell, he finally smelled a faint hint of stench.
Rafael’s face was the color of death.
He didn’t even know if he should stay for lunch, especially after seeing everyone uniformly wiping their noses and twitching them.
Rafael’s face bore an expression that was half crying, half laughing, but overall it was just difficult to look at.
Yake raised his hand with a snap and shouted, “Hey, Skunk.”
Ludwig grinned at Rafael and said, “Buddy, how does it feel to carry the stench of a skunk with you for the second time?”
Rafael flipped them both the bird, and just then, Eileen shouted, “Come over here, Skunk, ignore those jerks.
Come sit over here, Skunk.”
Gao Yang coughed lightly and said, “Hey, Skunk, don’t worry too much.
The smell will fade in a few days, it’s no big deal.”
Rafael curled his lip and finally said glumly, “Doesn’t anyone plan to call me Fork anymore?”
Yake said seriously, “Dude, look at your buddies, Ram, Rabbit, Big Dog, all their nicknames are animal related, only yours wasn’t.
I think Skunk suits you well, keeps in with the animal theme!”
After finishing, Yake shrugged his shoulders and said, “The key thing is, your new nickname is just too apt.
We’d be over the line not to call you Skunk after being hit twice in a row, right, Skunk?”
Rafael helplessly said, “It’s not like I was the only one with an object nickname; there’s also Test…
Okay, fine, now it’s just me.
But I hate skunks, I loathe skunks, I despise that word.”
Most people started laughing, but Gao Yang and the others couldn’t find it funny, because originally there was both Test Tube and Fork, and now only Fork remained.
Seeing that the mood was off, those who were laughing quickly switched their laughter to light coughing.
At this moment, Rafael sighed helplessly and said, “Well, keeping it uniform isn’t bad, Skunk it is then.
Having you guys give me nicknames isn’t something I can control anyway.
If I could be as badass as a skunk, hmm, that wouldn’t be so bad.”
Yake and Ludwig were sitting together, and they were laughing the loudest.
After Rafael glanced at them, he cracked a slight smile and sat down next to Ludwig, right across from Yake, and then, he suddenly took off the rubber glove from his left hand.
Yake and Ludwig immediately frowned and then quickly stood up and moved to the table beside them, but Rafael followed and sat down next to them.
Ludwig, with a frown, said, “Brother, this isn’t cool.”
Rafael looked at his left hand, wiggling his fingers, and said indifferently, “Where you guys go, I’ll follow.”
Rafael fell over, and he sat in the liquid sprayed by the Skunk Bomb, then he used his left hand to prop himself up.
He had thrown away his clothes and tactical gloves, but Rafael’s gloves were the fingerless type, so his fingers also came into contact with the liquid from the Skunk Bomb.
Rafael washed his hands until they were almost raw, but there was still a faint stench, so he had no choice but to put on medical rubber gloves, two layers of them.
Looking at Rafael sitting across from him, Yake’s face turned red with the effort of holding back laughter, until finally, he bowed his head and said, “I’m sorry, if there was anything I did that made you uncomfortable, I sincerely apologize, sorry, my mistake.”
Rafael looked at Ludwig, and Ludwig stammered out, “I’m sorry, I was wrong, please forgive me.”
Rafael slowly put his rubber gloves back on, allowing Gao Yang and the others to finally finish their meal, but the familiar smell invoked some unpleasant memories, making this meal none too enjoyable for most of them.
After finishing the meal, Gao Yang returned to the office, with Dani and Gilanor following him excitedly.
As soon as they sat down, Dani clapped his hands together and then, with an excited face, said to Gao Yang, “Do you know what you guys did last night?”
Gao Yang was exhausted.
After coming back, he had worked hard to get rid of the stench from his body, so he slept for the whole morning and wasn’t aware yet of the full value of last night’s battle results.
“Let’s hear it.”
Dani pointed to the insignia on his shoulder, and then, with a surprised expression, Gao Yang exclaimed, “I didn’t notice that you were wearing an insignia on your uniform today, oh, are you a Lieutenant Colonel now?”
Dani beamed with delight and said excitedly, “Yes, Lieutenant Colonel, I got promoted this morning.”
After saying this, Dani pointed towards Gilanor and said, “Didn’t you notice the difference on him?”
Gao Yang took a look and smiled, “Congratulations, you’re a Lieutenant now.”
Indeed, in troubled times heroes emerge; for soldiers, it is only in wartime that, as long as you make accomplishments, ranks can shoot up rapidly.
Dani saluted Gao Yang and said with a smile, “Sir, I will still have to address you as sir.”
Gao Yang, surprised, said, “Aren’t we supposed to be of equal rank now?”
Dani smiled slightly and said, “This morning, your honorary rank was promoted to Colonel.”
Gao Yang’s mouth hung open, stunned for a moment but then he just shook his head and laughed.
Even though honorary ranks don’t carry much weight, being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel one day and then Colonel the next, the speed was perhaps a bit too rapid, almost farcical.
At this rate, it wouldn’t take many days for Gao Yang to become a General.
After a laugh, Gao Yang asked, “What did we gain last night?”
Dani exhaled and said in a grave tone, “Last night, in our first operation, the prisoners haven’t yet revealed anything too valuable.
The one with the severed hand was just responsible for guarding the hideout, but the one who committed suicide, he’s significant.
The one with the severed hand has already disclosed his identity.”
Dani leaned in towards Gao Yang, a mysterious look on his face, “The seriously wounded one, he’s one of Badadi’s guards, and moreover, a highly trusted and valued one.
Now we just have to pray the guy doesn’t die.”
Gao Yang was elated inside and asked, “When can we interrogate?”
Dani waved his hand and said, “I don’t know, the doctors haven’t given any news yet.
After talking about the first operation, let’s talk about last night’s second operation.”
After saying this, Dani turned to Gao Yang with a sincere expression and said, “We all owe you our thanks.
Last night, you saved four of our brothers, all officers who were captured in Homs – a Captain and three Lieutenants.
Moreover, the one that survived was a hostage taken by the Rebel Army, a journalist from America.
The rescue of that journalist is of great significance to us because the Rebel Army hadn’t kidnapped any journalists before, and this is very beneficial for our propaganda.”
Gao Yang wasn’t concerned about the people he inadvertently rescued; he cared about the battle results from last night.
“It’s a pity we didn’t capture any prisoners alive last night, or we could have had a clearer idea of who we took down.”
Dani smiled and said, “We know, the Military Intelligence Bureau isn’t just good for eating.
In fact, we received a tip-off this morning.
Do you want to know what you guys achieved last night?” (An exciting event with free stuff falling from the sky, cool phones for the taking!
