Mercenary’s War -
Chapter 1002 - 1002 987 Death Roll
1002: Chapter 987: Death Roll 1002: Chapter 987: Death Roll The helicopter is most vulnerable when taking off or landing.
Rockets were already flying chaotically, but fortunately, while RPGs are easy to launch, where they land is not determined by human will.
The further they travel, the more they rely on fate.
Even with extensive training, it’s not possible to accurately predict the impact point of an RPG.
Those close enough would get shot down by the three helicopters.
The likelihood of launching rockets at close range, as what happened to the U.S.
Army helicopters in Mogadishu, is slim.
As for those at a distance, let them shoot their RPGs.
There’s no way to prevent it; it all comes down to luck.
But anti-aircraft missiles are a different story.
Night Demon Three was flying at just over fifty meters, and it hadn’t yet picked up speed.
It was at its most vulnerable.
Even a shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile, if it hit at this moment, would make one contemplate the possibility of going to the crash site to see if anyone survived.
Gao Yang heard Jacklan’s roar, but he was utterly powerless at the moment.
The lives of everyone on the aircraft were in Jacklan’s hands.
The aircraft suddenly rolled in place.
Everyone had just boarded, barely seated, and there were no seat belts on the makeshift seats.
What would happen when a helicopter performed a roll under these conditions?
Everyone in the cabin was instantly upended, tossed together in a heap by the rolling helicopter.
Gao Yang thought the plane was going to crash.
After rolling around the cabin and despite being battered, he didn’t feel pain and let out a curse.
A chorus of profanities erupted in the cabin, in at least seven different languages, but all meaning roughly the same thing.
Gao Yang thought it was all over because, in theory, helicopters could perform rolls, and indeed a few models like the Mi-28 and Ka-52 had achieved this.
Those were attack helicopters and at least a generation more advanced than the Mi-8.
Moreover, those were agile attack helicopters, not the ponderous beast aptly named the Mi-17 Hippo.
In actual combat, such maneuvers had never been done before.
A Mi-24 in Afghanistan once performed a barrel roll to evade a Stinger missile, which caused quite a sensation.
As for transport helicopters, especially an old Mi-17 known as a Hippo, Gao Yang never imagined it could fly after performing a roll.
Actually, he thought the aircraft had been hit and was rolling because it was about to crash.
But he quickly realized that wasn’t the case, as the helicopter released a host of infrared decoy flares and then Gao Yang heard a close explosion.
Hearing an explosion amidst the helicopter’s intrusive noise and being scared half to death meant it truly wasn’t far away.
The aircraft plummeted rapidly, swaying from side to side, jumbling everyone in the cabin.
Just then, Gao Yang heard Eileen in his headset, exuberantly roaring, “Hoopoe!
Beautiful job!”
Miraculously, the aircraft didn’t crash and finally regained stable flight, climbing rapidly.
Gao Yang had no time to celebrate, still confused about what had happened, so as he clambered out from the tangled heap and yelled, “What happened?”
Jacklan replied with a cocky tone, “Hope you didn’t smash your heads, I know you took quite a fall!
But the good news is, we’re safe.
Thanks to me, buddies.
I just pulled you back from the gates of Hell.”
After taking a deep breath, Gao Yang repeated, “What happened?”
“It’s simple.
We were flying too low; the missile was higher than our aircraft and our infrared decoys were launched to the sides and downwards.
I had no clue where the missile was, so I spun around releasing the flares, making it an all-around, no-blind-spot deployment.”
After Jacklan finished, Gallanor’s observer praised with admiration, “I saw it clearly.
The missile exploded just behind and above you.
Looks like it climbed and then flew horizontally towards your heat source, with a proximity fuse.
Just twenty meters less, and your tail rotor would’ve been gone.
Nicely done, Hoopoe.
You saved everyone with a death roll.
Hmm, are you sure Hippos can roll?”
At this moment, the pilot of Night Demon Two shouted, “Well done!
Hippos can’t roll.
Night Demon Two has exhausted its ammo.
We’re out of even a single bullet and need to return to base.
Over.”
Then Eileen shouted, “One death roll, and the missile hit the flare that was shot upwards.
Boss, you’d be scared stiff if you saw it.”
The pilots began to chatter among themselves, and Gao Yang took a long breath of relief.
He made his way to a seat, straightened his Night Demon night vision device, and then loudly declared over the intercom, “Head back!
Quick, let’s go back.
F**k, I don’t want to encounter another missile!”
One by one, the individuals in the cabin found their way back to their seats.
Some were making the sign of the cross, some were laughing loudly, and others were cursing.
Only Li Qiu, after a long daze, suddenly shouted, “Don’t expect to get me on a helicopter again.
Scared me to death!”
Li Qiu had never been in combat on a helicopter before.
Just then, Red Feather suddenly yelled, “F**k, F**k!
Who the hell pissed themselves?
A strong smell of urine.
Oh, sh*t!
F**k, my hand is wet, oh, sh*t, my sleeve’s wet too.
Damnable coward!
It must be you, Loach, who pissed their pants!”
Li Qiu angrily retorted, “Shut up!
You’re the idiot who got scared and pissed yourself.
My crotch is dry, touch it if you don’t believe me!”
A round of laughter broke out.
“Who is it?
Who is it?”
“Who got scared and peed themselves?”
“Who pissed themselves?
Military Dog, was it you?
You stink so much, shit, keep away from me!”
Finally, Red Feather identified the coward, he bellowed, “Stop looking, it’s the prisoner!
Dammit, Ram, you owe me extra, you owe me for mental anguish.
You kicked this goddamn prisoner and he pissed all over me, F**k, I won’t forgive you without ten thousand bucks.”
Having escaped death, everyone was excited, Gao Yang waved his hand grandly, saying, “For getting peed on, consider it done.”
“Oh?
I’ve got some on me too!”
“I, I, I got a bit on me too, though not much.
So, five thousand should do.”
They laughed and joked around until the plane returned and landed, and the moment it touched down, the noisy cabin immediately fell silent.
As the cabin door opened, personnel quickly disembarked, Gao Yang gestured with his hand, and several people dragged the prisoner and ran towards his office.
Only after this did everyone else follow the escorted prisoners.
Dani and Gallanor were among many others waiting at the airport.
Seeing Gao Yang, Dani shouted, “How did it go?”
After Gao Yang gestured with his hand, he said in a somber tone, “Find an interrogation room, I want to ask some questions.”
Dani said urgently, “Let us handle it, leave it to us.”
Gao Yang ignored Dani, who got a bit agitated, he approached the prisoner behind Gao Yang, at which point Alcohol and Rafael extended their palms, signaling Dani to stop and preventing his approach.
Gao Yang didn’t want to sour the relationship.
He told Dani, “Bring your men, we’ll interrogate together first.”
Dani asked urgently, “What’s the outcome?
Did you find Badadi?”
Gao Yang silently shook his head, his expression ugly because the operation hadn’t achieved its expected goal.
Badadi was not there.
Right next to Gao Yang’s office was Dani’s office, and Dani pointed to his room, saying, “Go there, I’ll call the interrogation expert right away.”
Number Thirteen, Shadow, and Tommy were also there to meet them, but they didn’t speak.
Dragging the men into Dani’s office, the rest waited outside.
Throwing the three prisoners onto the floor, Gao Yang immediately said, “Wake them up.”
Shadow rolled up his sleeves, and after Number Thirteen rubbed his hands, hearing Gao Yang’s words, both said in unison, “No, only one stays here.”
Dani opened his mouth, “Don’t rush, wait a second!
I didn’t expect you to bring back prisoners.
Just wait a bit, half an hour at most; let the interrogation expert come.
The prisoners are too valuable, we can’t kill them, right?”
Number Thirteen glanced at Dani and said, “No need, let’s start now, Ram is in a hurry.”
Dani still wanted to speak, but seeing that both Number Thirteen and Shadow seemed confident, he finally said, “I have just two requests: don’t kill them, and don’t cause them serious injury.”
Just then, Gao Yang pointed to the prisoner he had captured himself, saying, “The one who wet his pants should be the highest-ranking.”
Shadow smiled, “No, we start with someone younger and lower-ranking.”
They left one prisoner behind, dashed cold water over him, the prisoner didn’t wake up, but Shadow pricked under the prisoner’s armpit with a small knife, and the man immediately woke up screaming.
Gao Yang stepped forward and said in a deep voice, “Can we start questioning?”
Number Thirteen shook his head, but Shadow smiled, “If you want it fast, we’ll use rapid interrogation methods.
Don’t worry, he won’t die, but he might suffer a mental breakdown.
Rest assured though, mental breakdowns aren’t permanent.
Um, let him rest for a week to ten days, and then he’ll be ready for a second interrogation.”
Gao Yang waved his hand, “Make it quick!”
Shadow looked at Number Thirteen and said, “If it’s rapid interrogation, the only methods I know cause extreme pain.
Do you have a better idea?”
Dani said anxiously, “A temporary mental breakdown is okay, but we absolutely must keep him alive, we must.”
Number Thirteen shook his head, “To keep him alive, I can’t use my methods.
Just go with extreme pain.”
Shadow grinned and then told Gao Yang, “Give me half an hour.
In half an hour, you ask him, and I guarantee he’ll spill everything by then.”
Gao Yang nodded, “Half an hour then, I can wait.
Show me what you’ve got.”
