Medusa in the Trash Heap -
Chapter 31 - Graveyard Garbage, Soul-calling Lantern!
Chapter 31: Graveyard Garbage, Soul-calling Lantern!
“I’ll go treasure hunting first.”
“You all go ahead and get something to eat.”
Chen Fan said cheerfully.
Last night, his garbage heap had received two loads of trash, and yesterday, he had sensed a public garbage arrival.
He had thought it would be some time before the next load arrived.
But unexpectedly, tonight, it came directly.
“Whum…”
With anticipation, Chen Fan activated his mark and disappeared before the eyes of the three.
“Young master… disappeared?”
Cui Beixi was extremely curious and shocked.
She couldn’t understand the language of this world, nor read its characters. Naturally, she couldn’t learn about the world view like Medusa and Baxia who could access the internet.
“Yes!”
“He went treasure hunting.”
“Yesterday, young master picked you up from the trash pile…”
Medusa communicated telepathically, explaining and joking at the same time.
“Trash pile…”
Cui Beixi’s face turned red instantly.
“We… are the discarded… trash of the heavens…”
Baxia murmured.
“Sure enough, the previous trash has all been cleaned up…”
Looking at the new pile of garbage in the garbage space, it wasn’t in the original position, but all the trash from the original location had been removed. Not even a speck was left.
Chen Fan could sense that, just as the legends said, after digesting the previous trash, his garbage heap had slightly expanded.
“I wonder how large the garbage heaps of those powerful beings who awakened a hundred years ago must be?”
Chen Fan was curious.
He took out a dustproof mask and a small iron rake from his storage ring and walked towards the garbage mound.
This time, there wasn’t much garbage, just a small mound of earth.
He wasn’t sure what was buried inside.
Without further ado, Chen Fan got to work.
He raked the earth, lifting a pile of soil.
The soil was loose, slightly damp, and had a moldy, decaying scent.
Moreover, the majority of this trash was made of dirt.
It was mixed with large stones and dried branches, and leaves.
The large stones appeared to be carved from blue bricks.
“I wonder where this trash came from?”
“Although it isn’t battlefield trash…”
“It’s not kitchen waste either.”
He pinched the soil and analyzed it.
Analyzing was a subject he had learned in school.
After discarding the soil, Chen Fan climbed up the mound and picked up a blue stone. It seemed like an ordinary stone, but it had carvings on it.
“System, should I recycle this?”
Chen Fan asked. The carvings looked ordinary, and he couldn’t understand their meaning.
He asked the system.
“Ding! Just an aged blue stone.”
“It has no recycling value.”
The system’s response was straightforward.
“What about these carvings?”
“Do they have no value?”
Chen Fan asked.
“They are just ordinary carvings, no special patterns, no value.”
The system explained.
“Patterns…”
“Indeed, I can see that now.”
“I just wanted to confirm.”
Chen Fan smiled and tossed the blue stone aside.
“Whoosh…”
After confirming the blue stone had no value, Chen Fan tossed it aside and continued digging.
Since he was using an iron rake, his movements were light.
When treasure hunting in a trash pile, it was best to use one’s own hands instead of tools.
Otherwise, a single rake or shovel could easily crush valuable items hidden in the garbage.
This lesson had been learned through the blood and tears of previous generations.
Just like yesterday, Chen Fan had nearly pierced through another being with a broken spear.
Of course, outside of the public garbage space, where so many people divided the treasures, it was often not just about luck, but also about speed.
“Ding…”
Finally, the iron rake made a faint, crisp sound, and Chen Fan’s heart slightly rejoiced, but he also felt a bit anxious.
“The ancient ones weren’t lying to me.”
Chen Fan smiled and tossed the rake aside.
Then, he began slowly digging with his hands.
Soon, his palms brushed against something hard and cold.
“I’ve found something valuable!”
A smile appeared on Chen Fan’s face as he quickly dug the soil away.
Soon, he saw a shiny object.
He pulled it out and looked at it.
It resembled a lamp.
After brushing off the dirt, Chen Fan realized it was indeed a lamp.
It was made of transparent material, neither metal nor jade, and it was very heavy.
There was still some oil inside, and the wick was half-burned.
But the flame had long since extinguished.
“Ding! Congratulations, the host has found a Soul-calling Lantern.”
The system’s voice rang out.
“Soul-calling Lantern?”
Chen Fan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“It’s a ritual from a certain world. After burying the deceased, seven Soul-calling Lanterns are lit around the coffin to summon the soul of the dead.”
“This lantern can burn for a thousand years…”
The system explained.
“So, the Soul-calling Lantern is real?”
Chen Fan asked.
If that’s the case, the trash here came from a grave, and this Soul-calling Lantern is a death instrument?
In that moment, Chen Fan felt a chill run through the surroundings.
