Chapter 29: The Awakening of the Mermaid.

“Whum…”

Arriving at the lake, Chen Fan carefully took out the ice block, gently placing it down, afraid it might fall and shatter the mermaid inside.

“System, does this ice block have any recovery value?” Chen Fan asked.

He felt that the ice sealing the mermaid was no ordinary ice.

The extreme cold—such a temperature could not be generated by just any regular ice.

“Ding. This ice block is the result of the Eternal Magic spell. Under normal temperatures, it will never melt.”

“However, it holds no recovery value,” the system replied after a brief scan.

“Eternal Magic!”

Chen Fan was astonished. Was there such powerful magic?

He was curious about its power, but he knew it was a form of magic that could either create or alter environments.

“System, is this mermaid still alive?” Chen Fan asked.

“Yes, she is alive. After the Eternal Magic was cast, everything trapped inside the ice will eternally remain in the state they were in before being sealed,” the system explained.

“Eternal Magic is that powerful?” Chen Fan asked, his curiosity piqued. “Is it like this ice block exists in an eternal space?”

For a moment, he couldn’t help but feel intrigued by the potential of Eternal Magic.

“However, generally speaking, once Eternal Magic is undone, the entity within will quickly succumb to the ravages of endless years,” the system added, making Chen Fan shudder at the thought.

If the beings trapped in Eternal Magic were still conscious, it must be a torturous existence. If they were not saved, they would be trapped forever.

But if they were freed, their existence would instantly be wiped out.

“So, after undoing Eternal Magic, I’ll only see a pile of bones?” Chen Fan asked.

“Ding. Under normal circumstances, that is correct.”

“However, with the system’s repair function, what you’re worried about will not occur.”

The system answered.

“Then let’s begin the repair!” Chen Fan commanded. “Remove the ice block.”

“Ding. Undoing the Eternal Magic requires 3,000 points.”

“3,000 points deducted. Starting repair now.”

The system chimed, and Chen Fan’s palm began to emit white light. Under the white light’s glow, the ice block began to slowly melt—not into water, but directly disappearing.

A chilling aura surrounded the area.

Chen Fan couldn’t help but pull his clothes tighter around him. But it was futile, as this cold seeped through him, a cold so profound that even clothing couldn’t shield him from it.

“Even low-tier magical worlds have such a terrifying magic as Eternal Magic?” Chen Fan mused.

He realized he needed to find time to study magic properly. After all, he had a mage’s journal.

Unfortunately, the script from that world was foreign to him, and he couldn’t read it.

Although Cui Beixi came from that world, she wasn’t a mage and likely couldn’t understand it either.

But this mermaid, she should know.

After all, in that world, mermaids were born mages.

Without any training, she could summon magic orbs.

If she studied magic, her basic spells might become forbidden-level incantations, the kind that could be cast instantly.

Therefore, learning magic had become an inevitable part of his path.

As time passed, the ice encasing the mermaid finally disappeared completely.

Chen Fan’s gaze fell upon her chest, where a faint wound appeared.

After the ice fully melted, golden blood began to seep from the wound.

“So that’s it!”

Chen Fan realized. “The Eternal Magic was used to protect her?”

He guessed that this mermaid had been saved by someone using Eternal Magic just before she was on the verge of death, preserving her last bit of life.

Gently, he placed his palm over her chest, covering the wound.

“Whum!”

A burst of white light emanated from his palm, and the mermaid’s wound began to slowly heal.

“I’ve never picked up a living, breathing creature before…” Chen Fan shook his head, though his gaze was fixed on the mermaid.

The mermaid was truly a sight to behold, just as the legends said—capable of captivating sailors.

Her beauty was otherworldly.

Her flawless face and flowing golden hair cascaded down naturally.

In the center of her brow was a blue magic mark, which added an enchanting allure to her already stunning beauty.

The golden crown atop her head gave her a regal and dignified appearance.

Seven differently colored gems were embedded in the crown, each containing immense, pure magical power.

Chen Fan immediately sensed that the seven gems held different elemental magical powers.

Her massive golden tail shimmered with scales, perfectly complementing her magnificent form.

At a glance, she seemed more like a perfect piece of art.

In this world, who else had the privilege to feast their eyes on such a sight?

“Cough, cough…”

The mermaid’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, and she awoke with a soft cough.

“You…”

Sensing a warm hand over her chest, the mermaid struggled to sit up.

“Awake?”

Chen Fan retracted his hand, asking casually, though internally, he couldn’t help but lament his lack of composure.

“Thank you for saving my life, my lord…” The mermaid’s face flushed slightly, and she gratefully expressed her thanks.

She was puzzled, though. Despite not understanding Chen Fan’s language, she clearly understood every word he said.

“No need to be so polite. From now on, we are allies,” Chen Fan smiled, though inwardly, he couldn’t help but think that mermaids wore too little.
