Mated To The Dead Prince -
Chapter 58
Chapter 58: Chapter 58
Rose slowly started to hear faint voices in her head; she couldn’t tell if it was real or an imagination.
"She is just sleeping, Master. I sense nothing but peace from her," Felonious spoke as he stood beside Cassius’s bed, staring down at Rose, who was lying on Cassius’s bed.
Cassius stood beside her on the bed, his brows furrowed as he stared at her face.
"Is this a normal thing for humans? Sleep the whole day?" Cassius questioned, frowning.
Felonious shook his head slowly, "No, your majesty. But it’s not unlikely. However, Rose is not just a ’human’. She has shown signs of becoming...more." Felonious answered.
Cassius went quiet, his green eyes running from Rose’s toes to her face. He had always wondered what Rose’s purpose was; he believed she had found his grave for a reason, and that reason was why he was keeping her with him.
He needed to know if she was harmless, or if there was a force within her that had been projected to harm him or his people.
But, he was in a strong dilemma; he was deeply thinking of what he would do to Rose if she turned out to be a threat to his people. If it were in the past, he wouldn’t have hesitated to kill her; now, however, he was hesitant to make such a decision.
"Master..." Felonious called quietly.
Cassius removed his eyes from Rose and looked at Felonious, not saying a word.
"It’s something I’ve mentioned before... about mating the girl," Felonious started.
"What about it? You know the rules, Felonious; she’s human." Cassius spoke calmly.
Felonious sighed, "She’s your mate, Master. She is the one to chase away your darkness, and you’re the one to make her whole. None of you is complete without the other..." He paused and looked at Rose, "I haven’t known her abilities, Master, but one thing I’m sure of-"
"Never mention this again to me. Do you understand?" His face looked a bit lost as if he was recalling some unpleasant memories.
Felonious stepped back and bowed his head, "Yes, Master. My apologies." He spoke in a reserved tone.
Rose heard all they said, but she still couldn’t bring herself to speak or move; it wasn’t because her body felt heavy; rather, she felt too calm, relaxed, and peaceful.
Her body seemed to lock her in on that peace, allowing the hum she felt when she ate the tenth fruit to slowly vibrate through her body, causing her to feel like she never wanted to wake up.
Her extremities felt warm, very warm, as if she had placed them very close to a fireplace; her heart was beating steadily, aware that Cassius was beside her.
She wanted to touch him, craved to hold him. She tried to open her eyes, but the hum was still present, relaxing her every muscle.
"What’s your use if you can’t do something to wake her up?" Cassius asked, his hand moving to hold Rose’s.
"I’m sorry, Master. But if I do so, I would be interrupting the energy I feel from her. I believe she is trying to bond with something. She will wake up when the time is right," Felonious replied.
His eyes went to Cassius’ hand on Rose’s, he noticed the way Cassius was unconsciously gripping Rose’s hand. He could feel Cassius’ suppressed need for Rose to open her eyes; for the first time, he felt a little bit of fear from Cassius.
It was suppressed, but still there.
Unconsciously, Cassius was starting to bond with her; she was slowly finding home in his heart without the knowledge of any of them.
"Ask Cornelia to bring a change of clothes, and let Dabmond and his brothers know that they will be representing me in front of the elders. I won’t be available." He stated.
Felonious furrowed his brows, "But, Master, the elders -"
"Do as I’ve asked, Felonious," Cassius snapped his head at Felonious.
Felonious bowed and quietly left the room.
Cassius was finally alone with Rose, his eyes studied her calm face, wondering what could be going on in her head.
After he had left her in his shower, he dealt with some activities all night long and was sure she’d be gone before he returned; however, he had been surprised to find her sleeping in his bed when he returned.
He knew he should have woken her, asked her to leave. He didn’t. He simply lay beside her and slept, thinking she’d be up the next night. She wasn’t.
Cassius leaned closer to Rose, lowering his face to hers; his fingers traced her lips, admiring how soft they were. He traced her face, her hairline, her jaws; her beauty always marveled him, she looked so refreshing to look at, she made him feel alive, and he believed that was a dangerous thing to feel.
He wasn’t alive; feeling alive was a huge sign of vulnerability. That was one of the reasons why he couldn’t take her as a mate. If he bound himself to her, he would grow weak because he might end up becoming too human.
Humans were weak, and he hated weakness.
"You don’t control me, Rose..." He whispered, his nose bridge touching hers.
"I’m here because I chose to. I cancelled my meetings because I wanted to. And..." He brushed his lips on her lips, a soft graze, "I let you on my bed because... There was nothing else I could do, not because you deserve it. I don’t care about you, I just want you alive because I’m the only one who has the right to take your life, you can’t die without my permission. I own you," He placed his forehead on hers, his eyes shut.
Never in his existence has he experienced such a fear of the unknown. He’d never felt anxiety, but as he placed his forehead against Rose’s, he grew anxious, his imagination running wild with the worst outcome.
He needed her to survive whatever this was. If it was just a sleep, then it was long overdue, and she needed to wake up; she couldn’t just lie there and let him feel things he couldn’t explain.
Suddenly, Cassius felt a light fluttering on his closed eyelids, alerting him that the person below him was trying to open her eyes.
He slowly lifted his face and stared down at her, his eyes shining with renewed hope and anticipation.
He watched Rose’s eyes as they fluttered open, connecting with his.
Cassius didn’t realise that when he let out a sigh of relief, his hand came up beside her face, caressing it.
Rose finally found the strength to open her eyes; Cassius’s closeness had doused that hum in her body. But Rose did not expect to feel a sharp thug in her heart the moment her eyes locked on Cassius’s above her.
She felt like she was staring at the most important thing in her life in that moment; her heart was bleeding with unspoken confessions, as if something or someone was trying to force her to say those words she swore she’d never say to him.
"You will never scare me like this again, do you hear?" Cassius’s voice was as gentle as the wind, his hand gently cupping the side of her face.
Rose slowly blinked, that feeling in her intensified the moment she heard the worry in his voice; she felt his fear of losing her, and she instantly felt compelled to say those words that were already on the tip of her tongue.
She knew her body wasn’t hers at that moment, and she was going to regret it later, but it felt so right at the moment; she needed to assure Cassius and make that worry disappear from his face.
"Did you hear me, Rose?" Cassius asked as he saw that Rose wasn’t responding to him.
Rose blinked again, slowly licking her lips, her hands moved on their own accord, holding Cassius’s face.
"You’re worried about me." She didn’t ask.
Cassius clenched his jaws, "I’m not, I just -"
"I love you," Rose whispered, feeling a slow but sure fire lit her heart.
It felt so liberating to say that, and whatever it was that was compelling her to say it, she felt so ecstatic at that moment, urging her to say more.
Cassius froze, his body felt paralysed, his brain stopped working for the first time in centuries, and his cold heart felt as if someone was using a warm candlelight to melt away the ice surrounding it.
His hand on Rose’s face slightly trembled, his eyes glowing a deeper shade of green as he stared into Rose’s eyes.
"I love you, my dark prince. Will you let me be your light?" Rose whispered again, her eyes suddenly becoming teary.
Cassius saw the tears and immediately snapped back to reality. He was confused. Rose finally said she loved him, leaving him utterly speechless and nervous; now, she was crying, making him lose track of what to do.
"Hey, Rose, why are you crying?" He questioned quietly.
"You don’t love me... say you love me, Cassius. Say you belong to me, please," Rose’s voice was low and shaky, her hands wrapped around his neck.
Cassius gulped; the way Rose possessed him awoke something in him, something he wasn’t ready to acknowledge.
"Cassius... it hurts, please say you love me," Rose said, her tears kept falling.
Cassius wiped her tears with her thumb, his lips brushing against hers again before he stared into her eyes again, "Rose..."
He paused, but before he could say something else, Cornelia knocked on his door.
"It’s me, Master; I have brought Rose a change of clothes," Her voice smoothly announced from behind the door.
