Chapter 44: Chapter 44

Rose was kind of at peace for the first time. Not that kind of peace that was blissful, but at least the kind that made her heart rate normal for the first time since she fell into this world.

Cornelia had made her a very warm bath, allowing her to soak her bones in warmth for the first time in forever; after that, she had brought her two yummy dishes, which she had devoured separately.

Now, she sat in Cornelia’s bed with a towel around her body, she had been told to wait while Cornelia went to get her a dress.

She wondered what Cassius would do to her when she finally went up to his room, hopefully, he doesn’t repeat his outrageous actions.

"I’m a Lux..." She murmured.

If she recalled correctly, Felonious mentioned that the first Lux was a danger to the dark creatures; the vampires hated her because she could end their ageless lives in one second. But, Rose couldn’t see any specific special powers yet apart from her burning blood and her new psychic powers.

She wished to develop more abilities to make her ready to fight the vampires; only then would she have the courage to escape; maybe it was time for her to start accepting her new self; she found out that she was the one hindering herself from discovering so much more about herself.

"It’s time the female lead starts to accept and harness her new abilities," She smiled to herself.

Stay out of trouble and mind her business; that was what Rose decided to do. All her spare time would be used to discover herself, with no more fear of the unknown; Rose wanted to become the unknown.

’Soon, vampires shall fear me,’ She smirked.

The door suddenly opened, and Rose quickly cleared the smirk off her face. She smiled at Cornelia who walked into the room holding a red, folded dress in her hand.

"Get up; let’s see how this fits," Cornelia offered Rose her hand, and she took it, standing from the bed.

Cornelia held up the dress and let it stretch to the floor; she held it against Rose’s front and smiled, "Perfect, I knew this would be it," She chuckled.

Rose noticed how this dress was sexy in every way. It was backless, like the kind of blackness that would stop right at the base of her waist, the hands were almost dismissive with how thin they were, and the slit? Mid-thigh!

"Do I really have to dress like this just to go to his room? Wouldn’t this dress make him act worse than he did?" Rose questioned with a slight frown, raising her hand to touch the silk material of the dress.

Cornelia smirked, "Room? Who said you were going up to his room dressed like this? You’re going to a party, dear, child, and trust me, he wouldn’t be able to take his eyes off of you," She patted Rose’s arm.

"That’s my point, I don’t want to be his center of attraction," She sighed.

Cornelia laughed very quietly and shook her head, "Oh, dear, Rose, but you’re already his center of attraction. Even without this dress, you will always have him drooling over you...that’s the power of the mate bond," She whispered.

Rose shook her head in denial, "No. He’s not my mate, I’m not his either. We don’t belong to each other; Felonious was just saying random things, it’s never going to work out between me and that monster," She stated clearly.

Cornelia released a very long sigh, "Whatever you say, young Rose. Come on, put this on, I’ve been asked to escort you to the hall," She gently placed the dress in Rose’s hand and went over to her drawer to get pins for packing Rose’s hair.

Rose stared at the dress in her hands and sighed, ’I can do it, no more crying, Rose, it’s time to be yourself,’ She turned serious immediately.

She was ready to face the party and whatever drama that would come out of it, hopefully, it ends quickly. She knew the daytime was approaching soon, which meant, it was reaching a time when she would be the only person awake in the whole Blood castle. She couldn’t wait to chat with Laura on the phone Elliot had gifted her.

"Sit, Rose, we have to move your hair behind," Cornelia met her and placed a hand on her shoulder, admiring the way the dress fitted Rose.

After packing her hair, it was time to leave for the party.

As Rose walked out of the castle in her new red heels, she regretted why she always skipped heels in the human world; now, she was forcing herself to put one foot in front of the other and not fall face-first.

She was led toward the building where Cassius had held his council meeting with the elders, and as they reached the door, Cornelia stepped away from Rose.

Rose blinked in confusion, "You’re...not coming?" She asked quietly.

Cornelia nodded, "My place is in the kitchen; I can only enter when it is time to serve. Enjoy the party, Rose," She explained and turned away from Rose, walking back to the main castle.

Rose took a deep breath, "Here goes nothing," She murmured and walked through the door.

Cassius was bored, as he expected; he was standing in a corner with Dabmond, who was trying his best to convince him to lessen his aura so that people could approach him.

He refused.

For some reason, he was feeling like something was missing from him for the very first time.

"Brother, at least let one of your council members come up and speak to you. Look around; the people bearing slave gifts are standing all around the room, waiting for your menacing mood to shift so they could approach you, you... brother? Did I say something wrong?" Dabmond stepped back as he saw Cassius’ eyes suddenly glowing red.

He knew it meant danger; he was wondering what he had said to cause his brother’s sudden rage.

However, he noticed that Cassius didn’t look angry; rather, he looked shocked and mesmerized, and his gaze was pinned on something or someone behind him.

Dabmond wasted no time in spinning around to check out why his brother was the way he was, and he, too, got the shock of his life.

"Damn..." He muttered as he stared at Rose walking through the door, looking all sexy and daring.

He realized that every creature’s attention was on her, she had effortlessly stolen the show.

Cassius slowly stepped forward, standing in front of Dabmond, he watched Rose turn her head from side to side, searching for him, but he didn’t go to her. He was stuck in admiring her sexiness, the way the dress hugged her body was invoking something wild within him.

"Bring her to me," Cassius said to Dabmond.

Dabmond nodded and immediately went to fetch Rose.

Cassius never took his eyes away from her, he saw how she mistakenly bumped into someone and immediately turned to apologize. At that moment, he shut his eyes and clenched his jaw; he never knew the back of her dress was that exposing; his primal instinct of possession and obsession kicked in, tempting him to take her away from here and keep her where only he could see every part of her spotless body.

He turned away, balling his fists to keep his demons at bay.

He wanted her.

Rose gasped when she bumped into someone behind her. She immediately turned to apologize, but no words came out from her lips when she saw Sacarlet glaring at her with concealed hatred.

That seems to be exactly what Rose was avoiding. She could already feel the disapproving looks from everyone in the hall as they hated her more for daring to touch Scarlet, a vampire.

"You, are you looking for trouble?" Scarlet knew that Cassius was in the hall, so she kept her face neutral while speaking to Rose so Cassius wouldn’t notice her hatred.

Rose was surprised to see Scarlet’s reaction; she had expected her to give her scornful and ugly looks, not that she didn’t feel the hatred from Scarlet’s voice, but she wondered why she bothered to hide her expression. But she didn’t want any trouble, so she slowly stepped aside and said, "I’m sorry, Scarlet, I didn’t know you were standing right behind me; I’ll be more careful next time," She apologized.

Scarlet scoffed, "You better, Rose, because next time I-"

"You look breathtaking tonight," Dabmond came and stood beside the two women, smiling.

Scarlet gave Rose a victorious look and turned to Dabmomd, "Thank you, dear cousin, I feel flattered by your -"

"Oh, but I was talking about Rose. She looks hot tonight, don’t you think, cousin?" Dabmond took Rose’s hand and kissed the back of it, causing her to blush.

Scarlet couldn’t let her act drop, she cleared her throat and smiled. "Of course, Dabmond, she’s the Master’s slave; she has to dress presentable; if not, she will bring shame to the master," She smirked at Rose.

"Speaking of Master, Rose, Your master has asked me to bring you to him," Dabmond gave Scarlet a polite nod before he gently led Rose away from her.

Rose didn’t miss the jealous scowl on Scarlet’s face before she was led away from her, but that wasn’t her main worry; her worry was the man she was being taken to.

She saw Cassius’ eyes glowing, and she had come to better understand the difference when his eyes glowed from anger or lust.

At that moment, his eyes were glowing from lust; he was openly lusting over her in the presence of hundreds of dark creatures.

Rose knew that the night was going to be very eventful and intense.
