Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Inside a small dimly-lit room, Cassius stood tall in his intimidating figure and stared down at Rose’s figure lying knocked out on the shabby bed, his face Stone-cold.

"Master," Felonious called very cautiously behind him.

His master’s dark mood was something to be reckoned with.

Cassius didn’t reply, but he slowly removed his face from Rose and looked at his mage.

"The order has been given, master," Felonious reported.

"Cornelia will be in charge of her, bring her to me once she’s conscious," Cassius ordered and walked out of the room.

Cassius was walking through the same hallway where he had met his brother the first time he appeared with Rose, but this time, no one was present.

He paused in the huge arc window and looked out into the darkness of the night.

He couldn’t help but ponder over his actions. Why did he bring that human back to his castle? He knew he couldn’t tell people it was because she was the one who woke him from his healing sleep, everyone knew that as the dark Prince, he had the power to break the bond that was formed with any creature who was privileged to find his grave and awaken him.

The bond was like a kind of gift one receives when one wakes a sleeping vampire, not just from the normal vampire sleep, but a vampire who had returned to the grave to heal due to a life-threatening and deathly condition.

It was hard for them to wake up on their own; only a handful of creatures, since the history of vampires, were able to locate those types of vampires’ graves.

All these thoughts in his head made him wonder how and why Rose was able to locate his grave and how she was able to wake him up with just a single warm touch on his nose bridge. And she was just a human.

Maybe this was why he kept her; he was curious to know how she did it, and he couldn’t just let her go without her confessing to him who helped her cross over to his kingdom.

He had listened to Eliot’s explanation after the auction and discovered he had no hand in bringing her over, to him, it was as much of a surprise as it was to Rose, but he couldn’t believe a human could easily just fall and stumble into his kingdom, she must have had a helper.

He heard footsteps approaching him and didn’t bother to turn around; he already knew who it was.

The person stood behind him without saying a word.

"What is it, Dabmond?" Cassius asked, placing his long elegant fingers beside the window.

"Can I ask something?" Dabmond asked apprehensively.

Cassius nodded.

Dabmond walked closer and stood beside Cassius, looking out the window for a while and slowly sighing.

"We’re planning a ball to celebrate your awakening and healing," Dabmond informed.

Cassius nodded again; he knew this wasn’t what his brother wanted to say to him, so he remained quiet, waiting for him to say it whenever he was ready.

"I mean no disrespect, brother, I’m just curious..." Dabmond put his hand into his pockets.

"Go ahead, Dabmond," Cassius replied.

Dabmond nodded and asked, "Why did you refuse to give her to him?"

Cassius remained quiet, his expression turning sour; he knew exactly what his brother was asking.

Before they drove off from the auction house, Eliot had met him and asked to buy Rose from him with the promise of sending her back to the human world but he had surprised everyone by refusing and sending out an order that no creature was allowed to go in or out of the dark world until he declares otherwise.

Now, hearing his brother’s question, he felt that twinge in his heart again, the same twinge he felt when he saw Rose on stage, looking afraid and alone. His protective instincts were activated, he felt like no one had the right to touch what was his.

"Because she’s mine," Cassius replied.

Dabmond frowned, "What do you mean?" He asked.

In their world, when a vampire claimed someone as theirs, it could only mean two things; first, that person was your slave; second, that person was your mate. And it was rare for vampires to find a mate, mostly the werewolves and Lycans with other creatures were opportune to find their mates easily.

But for them, it rarely happened that they decided to keep their bloodline going by an arranged marriage... which was still hard to find because only pure blood could produce offspring for another pure blood. But these days, they choose to fall in love, which is...still rare.

And, in all his years of knowing his brother, he had never heard him claiming someone as his, whether as a slave or mate. He was very surprised and curious to know which one his brother meant.

"She’s a slave, Dabmond, a slave to the Blood Castle," Cassius said coldly and walked away from his brother, he was done with him.

Cornelia carried a tray of food in her hands and walked out from behind the castle.

There was a long roofed walkway that led to another smaller building behind the Blood Castle with thorny red and black Rose flowers planted on each side of the walkway

Cornelia walked inside the slave’s quarters and met the blonde-haired lady at the counter who was in charge of designing duties and roles for the slaves.

"Oh, hi, Conelia! Brought me another delicacy of yours?!" The lady at the counter chirped happily as she saw Cornelia enter the small reception-like area.

"No, Susan, unfortunately, it’s not for you," Cornelia smiled beautifully and placed the food tray on the counter to rest her hands.

"Oh, that sucks. Who’s then?" Susan asked curiously.

Cornelia chuckled and shook her head. Susan was always like that; it’s safe to say she’s the most inquisitive and noisy person she’s ever met, quite an odd characteristic for a vampire; she wondered how Susan managed to survive not getting killed by the dark master after all those years with how annoying she could get at times.

"It’s for the new slave," Cornelia informed.

Susan silently gasped, dramatically putting a hand over her mouth.

She quickly waved Cornelia closer in a sneaky way, looking left and right to make sure no one was near to hear what she was about to say.

"I think they’re mates, I saw with my own eyes how he carried her up here himself," Susan said in a whisper.

Cornelia gently stepped back from the psycho, regarding her with concerned eyes. Maybe she really needed to see a healer; as rare as it is for vampires to seek healers, she believed Susan needed to because the way her brain works anti-clockwise was becoming alarming.

"Susan, just tell me the girl’s room and I’ll be on my way," Cornelia was already tired of Susan’s drama.

"Hm, fine, you don’t believe me. It’s 24," Susan replied, hauntingly folding her arms on her chest and removing her face from Cornelia.

"Thanks, Susy," Cornelia said with a smile and walked up the stairs adjacent to the counter.

The slave quarter was scarce of people because they’d all been assigned duties for the day; nobody dared to miss their duty, and the punishment for that was more than death itself.

Cornelia reached the door with the number 24 at the top and quickly pushed it open.

The room was dimly lit, just like every other room in the slave’s quarters.

Rose was still lying on the bed, she’d been sleeping for three hours straight.

"Rose, wake up," Cornelia said gently as she dropped the food tray on the floor beside the bed.

Rose slightly turned on the bed, flaring her nose from the delicious aroma that wafted into her nose.

She smiled, thinking about when she would be able to eat the food with such a sweet aroma, but her brain quickly reminded her of where she was, and she immediately opened her eyes.

"Easy, dear, You’re famished and drained," Cornelia helped Rose sit up.

Rose was quiet, the image of Cassius tearing the MC’s head away from his shoulders kept flashing repeatedly in her head. She was still too shocked to say anything.

"Here, I know you humans would prefer to brush before you eat, but you, my dear, need to eat as a matter of urgency; you look like a dying vampire," Cornelia sat beside the Rose on her tiny bed and carried up the food from the floor.

Rose blankly stared at Cornelia and then scanned her eyes around the tiny room.

She was really back to the Blood Castle.

How did her life take such a drastic turn?

From the daughter of billionaire scientist parents with a stable job and comfortable life to a dark vampire’s slave and living in a room that is not even fit for a stray dog.

Cornelia noticed the faraway look on Rose’s face and decided to open the lid of the flask and let the aroma of the food draw her back from her thoughts.

Rose slowly looked down at the rice soup, her tummy instantly rumbling in response.

"Can I have some water first?" Rose asked in a hoarse voice.

"Here," Cornelia picked up a small water bottle and handed it over to Rose.

Rose tilted her head and gulped down the whole content of the bottle.

After eating her food, Cornelia asked her to bathe in the public bathroom, then asked Susan to send up a uniform for Rose.

"It’s decent," Cornelia nodded as she looked at Rose, who now stood in front of her, wearing an ankle-length French maid dress.

She couldn’t believe she was now wearing maid uniforms like those maids in her novel.

She suddenly remembered that she couldn’t recall where she had lost her belongings, but she was sure she crossed over to this realm with them.

"Let’s go, oh, wait. One last thing," Cornelia said and walked behind Rose, taking out a hair clip from her white hair and using it to clip Rose’s long black hair in a low pony.

"Master doesn’t like tardiness," Cornelia informed.

Rose had been unconscious when she was brought into the slave’s quarters and didn’t get to see her surroundings.

As she walked down the stairs, she stared at the whole place in shock; she didn’t want to believe that the way the place was looking matched the description of the slave’s quarters in her novel too.

Cornelia was thankful that Susan wasn’t there as they passed the reception area, she looked back and noticed Rose staring at the flowers with a look of admiration and something else she couldn’t point out.

"Hurry up, Rose, Master does not like to wait," That comment alone, forced Rose out of her delusional imagination.

She was going to meet him again? Will she come out of this alive?
